It came out with 0 hype in a season with a lot of big names and as an LN reader watching the show gradually gain popularity and then have an explosive end in popularity warmed my heart 🥹
@@whothou9154 I wouldn't say zero hype as the moment it got announced LN and Manga readers started praising it everywhere(RU-vid, novel sites etc.) then they started arguing about which one was better(LN vs Manga)
@@currentlyaliveanddead6733 yeah but that's within the community when i say hype I'm referring to people outside. Then some people saw the isekai tag, girls on the cover or the end of ep1 and just automatically dismissed it.
To be fair this was polled when it only had 2 episodes. Not much people were watching it at that time. It started to pop off at episode 4 and 5. It got so popular that season 2 was announced as soon as season 1 ended. Season 2 is coming out around the end of this year or beginning of next year. This show may end up becoming a yearly anime due to how popular it is.
Eminence in shadow not darkness and the show isn't that good, its the type of anime that you watch, its funny and you forgot about it in less than a week
@@filipboskovic940 I enjoyed it more than overrated Jujutsu Kaisen that everyone recommends. And also, you're not true whatsoever, because it was airing in last season, but everyone calls it ONE OF THE BEST Isekais already. Season 2 was anounced aswell, so unless it fails the show won't be forgotten.
Love the transformation you guys have gone through over the years. I still watch your Attack on Titan reacts every now and then and it's awesome seeing you guys grow, the graphics upgrades and the awesome intros. Didn't realise you guys hadn't reacted to this series yet, but can't wait for more!
The manga prologue was hilarious, it was shown that because of his intense training his body was fucking jacked so even though he kept lying to himself about being hidden in plain sight he was just completely known to everyone. And then when he got hit by the truck it was because he was doing some forest training and then jumped at the truck because he thought it was an enemy.
I categorize this anime as "If Shirou Emiya was isekaied" because MC wanted what Shirou was also striving for, but the difference comes in the foundation of why he wants it. Shirou wants to undo the damage brought about by human, magus, and non-human entities. So he can save everyone even though it's impossible. Shadow wants power to live out his edgy superhero fantasy.
I'd call it more "Isekai One-Punch Man with the spirit of Misfit of Demon King Academy". It does the same unbeatable MC Protag parody that OPM does, but in less of a "parody of superhero while exploring psychological conflict on the downlow" and more of a "parody of OP isekai character but play it with a completely straight face and go so over-the-top that it loops all the way back around to awesome". One trick I came up with, actually, is to *not* think of Cid as the MC of the story just because he's the focal character. Instead, it's more like he's a stupid-OP cameraman who goes in to set up the equipment to shoot the scene for the _actual_ main character, who varies from arc to arc, but each time he ends up solving the problem himself and literally steals the scene. And that's *exactly* what he described wanting to be; an OP 3rd faction in a stereotypical good/evil conflict, a person and a group that says, "OK, what alignments are you guys? Lawful Neutral vs Neutral Evil this time? Or is it Neutral Good vs Chaotic Evil? Whatever, were crashing the party, and our alignment is Shadow."
YEEAAAAAAHH!!! Guys I'm speechless, you guys are my favorite reactors and I love Shadow so much. Thank y'all for suggesting The Eminence in Shadow, this show will be 10 times more hilarious. 4:42 I've watched this show more than 6 times through the reactions, but only Lupasan was able to make me notice the weights on Cid's wrist, nice catch. 11:00 I miss the mr. Editor so much, you're goated.
Even his shoes were weighted as you can hear the shoe locker creak when Kagenou Minorou placed his shoes in. Its more subtle in the anime as the Manga played it for laughs showing Minorou being overtly buff to the point you would think he's Dwayne Johnson.
This anime confuses me in a way...and by the way, hot take, I think the initial story before broski got isekai'd into another world would have been an awesome plot.
Surprise surprise mf .....spoilers ... He goes back to his world and the girl he saved in ep 1 also gets more exposure and screentime in LN. It's plot progression is random but Shadow sama keeps it at stack.
@@kieranpearson5096 Nah I saw alot of people complaining and saying they're gunna drop it or dropped it more than seeing people enjoy it, probably cause of the tone shift, which icl did turn me off as well, but I watched it through.
Actually some time passed between that incident and when he died. He and Nishino get pretty close but that’s probably gonna be like season 2 or 3 depending on how they do it. Just thought I’d clear up that confusion. They’re definitely going to keep giving love to the series since the director and producer are fans of the novel. By the way there is a reverse Isekai this season called dead mount where he gets Isekai from magic world to Japan. It’s excellent
It's kinda like Misfit of Demon King Academy. It's a parody that just goes so over the top with a completely straight face that it loops all the way back around from being ridiculously stupid to completely awesome.
In the WN, after banging his head, he saw two bright lights, that he felt were obviously the magic he was seeking, so he run straight to it and was proven right. No truck from his point of view.
I can't wait for this reaction series! I kept meaning to send this in as a suggestion to you guys, but kept forgetting, so I'm glad that it did get recommended and I am excited to watch you guys react to this.
I don't really know the details about the poll between this and Black Lagoon but my guess was that at the time people didn't really care about this because hype for this show was almost non-existent (at least I didn't see anybody talking about it before the season started) especially since it aired along with big names like Chainsaw Man and Spy Family. I also went into this show blind but after a few episodes it shot up to be one of my favorites from that season. After watching a few more episodes you might feel that this first episode is out of place compared to the rest of season 1 and that's because this is from much later in the source material. I only read the manga starting from where season 1 ended but afaik in the original it went straight into the isekai setting with only a brief background on Cid's Earth life.
I really like this Isekai. Cid emphasizes being the best version of yourself. You don't need to be the main character but be the best NPC character. Living a quiet and private life is a luxury with the age of social media and instant gratification.
There have been some "middle ages isekai'd into the future" one that comes to mind is Devil is a Part Timer (Fantasy transported to modern day, which I love as a series, check it out, since sequel is coming out).
Finally you guys react to it, PEAK IS BACK ON THE MENU (also nishino isn’t a throw away character, but we gonna have to wait a few seasons for her to come back)
"there was more character development on her than him" which is funny seeing how he wants to be in the shadows...so even episode 1 wasnt too much about him lol
I LOVED the first 3 episodes of Eminence in Shadow. It changes genre so many times. It's still good after that, but the first 3 are so interesting. Especially with the fake out on the first episode.
That truck sound effect during him talking about nukes was definitely played for laughs. Like man's talking about how he has to worry about nukes meanwhile an ordinary truck takes him out. Also, him talking about how he needs to be able to survive a nuke is definitely supposed to be goofy AF.
Isekaid into the future has been done actually. Also, this episode is actually based on content from the 4th light novel, as it was a sort of flashback.
13:34 " I felt more of a character development than him " Yes Lupa. I understand. Too bad in this story, 'background' character is the main character 🤣
well you are not wrong he is kick ass meets batman lol. and then he goes Extra once he is reborn and Ultra Lucky :P the Ex-army guy never going to be a adventurer after that knee shot :P nishino part was from later in the books, as she does pop up while later but not in the anime.
Ayyooo I KNEW it was just a matter of time before yall reacted to this. Yall never disappoint. Also @Yaboyroshi regarding someone from the middle ages who gets isekai'd into the future, the closest you'll get is probably Uncle from Another World.
