I love how the show showed their toxic relationship. How easy it is to get stuck in an emotionally abusive relationship. It can be sweet and lovely but there is always a darkness and a fear.

My favorite thing about Peter yelling at Rebecca about the batter is that anyone with eyes can tell that Owen and Hannah have a thing for each other. Like okay dude. How crazy can you get? Might as well yell at Flora while you're at it.

I honestly believe it wasn't out of jealousy, but rather a simple manipulation. To get a person into some toxic relations and manipulate them, you must create a great contrast between your "good" self and this raging, dangerous douche. That's how a victim subconsciously begins to wish for your good-self and fear to awoke your douche-self by submitting will and restraining. It's actually works perfectly, checked myself.

@Zsuzsanna Varga I'm inclined to agree with you. As we see throughout the show. The relationship is incredibly, so terribly toxic. And Peter is a bad person who hurts people. But he is a product of his environment and emotions. I dont think he set out to hurt, at least not Rebecca.

This is the worst kind of love story: A twisted, toxic, abusive affair that probably led to the death of Miss Jessel. Notice Peter is introduced with “Tainted Love” playing in the background. I love the fact that Hannah takes no crap from him.

Peter is the scariest thing in this show, a real world horror who all the actual supernatural stuff is just window dressing for. And it's amazing to see the same actor as sweet, gentle Luke in Hill House play this role just as well.

The tragedy of the last episode is that Miles DID try everything by else to get expelled and sent back home to Flora. Killing the bird was a last ditch attempt, not something he enjoyed. But then when even that didn’t stop the priest from trying to help him he had to take it to the next extreme. The priest needed him to show no remorse to give up on him...that’s why he said all that about wanting to hurt it more, not because he meant it. Like he said “I’m sorry, but I had to find your key”.

The mansion isn’t creepy to them, unlike hill house this house is very inviting and charming “a great good place” hence why they are not afraid to walk around at night.

I love how unapologetically reductive Peter is toward everything around him. He talks about “keys” and uses an example for HORSES (carrots) before making a generalization about women (flowers). Makes it so much easier to dislike him. Oliver is a fantastic actor.

I love Hannah... The way she yells at peter. Love it. I was all "yes girl!! Get him!!" Love it. Peter is the worst. The actor is amazing. He was amazing on both seasons but I hate his character this season lol. They showed the doll in the black dress (which is the doll representing rebecca) in the doll house in the first couple episodes. 🙂 Felt SO bad for owen. The one night he stays. Poor thing Owen and Hannah are too cute. And I saw right away there was something between Jamie and Dani. Cant wait for you 2 to get even further.

Same, but my superpower only works with fictional characters. Real life sucks and I suck, too. Also I KNEW IT the moment the narrator says in episode one that Jamie didn't introduce herself to the au pair and acted like she'd known Dani for a long time, and that Dani herself felt the same way. I mean, come on!?!! I said to my girlfriend, right then: "that's lesbian activity" and she just laughed me off. Who's laughing now XD.

@Zsuzsanna Varga Some people are easy to spot from a mile away, others not as much. It's not character flaw. Besides, Jamie distances herself from most people, and even if she had guessed Dani was gay, she'd never make the first move until she was sure Dani was into her. And Dani let her know. Jamie could very well be suprised at discovering Dani was gay, or that she just actually made the first move. Or both.

I'm American, and Scottish and Irish accents sound nothing alike to me. I can understand someone confusing Scottish & Welsh accents, or Australian & New Zealand accents, but not Scottish with Irish.

@@darthken815 It's not remotely offensive, you hear what you hear. As a Scot, though, I can see why some would confuse certain Scottish accents with Irish - Ulster accents are, after all, influenced by historical Scottish immigration - but Welsh accents sound very different to us

Rebecca was the au pair the previous summer, about a year before the events happening with Dani in the story. The parents died a year before that, I think, because they're supposed to have been dead 2 years.

Like in Hill House, Oliver’s accent in this startled me lol. And just as much as I wanted to hug Luke many times watching HH, I wanted to slap the living daylights from Peter in this. Outsiders looking in (viewers of a show or IRL) are always the ones to notice the signs of an abusive or toxic relationship, but yeah well “love is blind” is a cliche for a reason - being in love can muddle people’s decision-making. So while I wanted to yell at Rebecca a few times, I understand why she got swept off by their romance, no matter how intelligent she was.

Was also waiting to see when you might pick up on Dani & Jamie... and you guys were really cute about it. I definitely think that one of the themes of this season is love vs possession... that the wrong kinds of love are so destructive. I know some Hill House fans had different expectations for this season, but I really love that they went a completely different way here... and chose a more Gothic tone. (Rather than simply trying, and probably failing, to out-terrify Hill House.)

I always look forward to this channel's reactions to shows. You offer a good insight on so many things and I think Nikki is such a sweetheart. I like the discussion about abuse in today's video. There is a sort of 'horror' in being in an abusive relationship and not knowing it (especially when you are unfamiliar with the signs). And there is also discomfort in knowing that an abuser may not even know that what they are doing is wrong if that is the only way they know how to be (basically behavior is not so black and white)/is unhealthy.

Already where "Luke" started to explain to the boy what keys are, it was absolutely clear to me that he is a manipulative person. He looks for weak points and uses them for himself and if necessary he uses other people to get to a certain person. So he uses the flowers to get the girl to get the nanny. In the same way, he also uses the uncle and manipulates him.

I think the boy doing the very extreme things to get kicked out of school because he knew that the teachers and the principal were taking it easy on him. Giving him a pass because they know he just lost his parents and his nanny so he had to do really extreme stuff! Him grieving they wasn't going to kick him out because they felt bad for him. Another good reaction. I'm glad you guys are enjoying it. Peter is definitely an emotional abuser. I think he does love Rebecca but he doesn't know how to show it without tainting it. In a future episode, you'll get a hint why that is. Is Peter dead or alive, hmm🤔.... It was probably easier for Oliver ( Peter Quint ) to do a Scottish accent rather than the American one as Oliver is British so is likely used to Scots more than American.

As i said last reaction, this show is quite dark. So things like the crack in the church are slightly hard to see if you dont have the right settings or layout. Just food for thought

I know i'm late to the party but im betting the shadowy figure she keeps seeing was her boyfriend or something, that got hit by a car at night, the glowing glasses are the reflection of the cars headlights and she saw it in her side view mirror which is why he always appears behind her in reflections.

Just saying 200,000 pounds for someone who has a house like Bly Manor is one bucket of water whenever you have an entire swimming pool... Yeah technically you stole from you but you're not going to notice in the long run. Even back then in like the 80s I'm guessing is the time frame that this story takes place at least that's my guess.

I do like that The actor who played Luke in Hill House got an entirely different role this time around. Showing off his voice work and acting repertoire. Dislike that they made him an a-hole. At least Luke had an excuse for being a junkie.
