A few decades ago, several flawed medical studies told us coffee would kill us. That’s since been quashed and a host of new studies show just the opposite - a cup or two of Joe each day may provide measurable health benefits, and maybe even save your life. We spent over $2000 on equipment and beans, plus countless weeks researching how to make the perfect cup of coffee to take advantage of the many health benefits found in coffee. We also encountered some disturbing facts about microplastics and potentially deadly pesticides that might be in your big brand coffee. This video also covers potential problems with cafestrol and acrylamide. Here's what we found, what we're using, and what we recommend.
Personally, I'm a big fan of what they're doing at Purity Coffee. Great-tasting certified organic coffee, enhanced antioxidants for health, and they're environmentally conscious too. We are now a Purity affiliate. More on Purity here: puritycoffee.com/?rfsn=673665...
ALWAYS filter your water! Although most plastic is now touted as "BPA-free," it's replacement, BPS, may be even worse. Bottled water may have traces of BPS in it, and heavy metals in some tap water make it downright dangerous in some places, especially when boiled and reduced. Any good cup of Joe begins with a cup of clean water. We use either reverse osmosis, ZeroWater, or Waterdrop filters depending on where we are. Here are our Amazon affiliate links to excellent countertop water filters:
Zero Water: amzn.to/3OkwuBe
Waterdrop Filters: amzn.to/3S2X8BQ
Finally, Chemex makes the ultimate solution for brewing healthy coffee. All glass, zero plastic, and unbleached paper filters to remove the cafestrol. They're available in several different sizes. You can grab one of those at Amazon here: amzn.to/3bzONoy

I am sharing exactly what you need to look for, why you should even be concerned about it and the best mold and mycotoxin free coffee brands. Research shows that pesticides have been linked to cancer, hormone disruption, cognitive problems and behavioral problems. And when you consider that coffee bean crops are one of the most heavily sprayed crops in the world along with the fact that most of us are drinking AT LEAST one cup of coffee per day (if not more) then the need to choose organic becomes so much more obvious. Even if you have gone to the work to purchase an organic brand of coffee it could still be contaminated with mold. Why? Typically it’s a result of farming, storing, processing or transport practices. I think most know what mold is (a fungus), but a mycotoxin is what mold produces and can be found on certain foods - this includes coffee!

Mold and mycotoxins are definitely a concern. Fortunately, Purity tests for those. Thanks for sharing!

I have an expensive Keurig. Didn't realize there was so much plastic.
@GiveThemWell

We had one as well. It's just about all plastic. After emptying all the water, or so we thought, we accidentally discovered there's still water stuck in the internal reservoir. That's disturbing, because water breeds mold and bacteria! We're going to disassemble it in a future video on this channel to see what kind of muck is living in there. Stay tuned. In the meantime, use a percolator or glass pour over to avoid plastic altogether.

Keurig uses a variety of plastics in their brewers. They're not clear on what's inside exposed to heat.

Not gonna lie, but it ain't no picnic. To be honest, my motivation is my own family and friends' health, so it's definitely worthwhile. Thanks for watching, and glad it helped!

Interesting study. Long-term consumption of unfiltered coffee will provide more cafestol and effectively cause the increase of plasma triacylglycerol and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol. There's also kahweol found in some unfiltered coffee. Cafestol and kahweol show similar biological activities, which might be due to the presence of one conjugated double bond on the furan ring of the latter. Cafestol appears to be more effective elevating serum lipid than kahweol.

Always wondered where ‘Cup of Joe’ came from. Interesting. Sipping my percolator coffee right now, but looking at that Purity stuff. How’s it taste? Coming from Dunkin. Awesomeness as always.

Had no idea about the connection between coffee oils, cafestrol, and cholesterol. Thanks for the heads up.

The funny thing is the right coffee can actually help your cholesterol go down! Definitely filter as best you can, and limit the time of exposure to the grinds. You can actually see the oils float to the top of an unfiltered black cup of coffee or espresso! No oils on top means you're probably OK.

Cafestol and caffeic acid both increase insulin secretion. Cafestol also can increase glucose uptake in muscle cells, matching the levels of an antidiabetic drug. Cafestol’s dual benefits make it a good candidate for the prevention and treatment of type 2 diabetes. However, because coffee filters eliminate much of the cafestol in drip coffee, it is likely that other compounds also contribute to these health benefits.

Man I don't care about the health. I drink coffee for the MEAN BEAN CAFFEINE! Caffeine is a stimulant that makes you feel more energetic, improves memory, mood, reaction times and mental function. Caffeine can even improve endurance and performance during exercise. But it's cool there are other health benefits too I guess

Wow thought Starbucks was organic

Although many cafes sell packaged organic ground coffee in their stores or in supermarkets, I don't believe the store blend most popular coffee and donut shops make hot coffee with and sell daily is organic. We do believe most commercial brewing systems are stainless steel, but we've seen there are plastic tubes that carry water inside some popular brewing equipment.

A study published online April 22, 2020, by the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology found that filtering coffee (for example, with a paper filter) - not just boiling ground coffee beans and drinking the water - was better for health, particularly for older people.

Coffee has a worse withdrawal symptoms than alcohol, anything that give u a headache when u stop can't be good for u
@GiveThemWell
@GiveThemWell Год назад
Completely false, Eddie. Caffeine absorption is rapid and complete in humans, with 99% of orally ingested caffeine absorbed from the digestive tract within 45 minutes. Although caffeine withdrawal can occur in anyone who regularly consumes caffeine and then abruptly discontinues its use, its common symptoms are much more mild and may include headache, fatigue, low energy, irritability, anxiety, poor concentration, depressed mood and tremors, which can last anywhere from two to nine days. Your body metabolizes alcohol at a constant rate, at about one drink per hour, a much longer time than caffeine. And since alcohol consumption volume is typically a lot more than coffee, alcoholics are typically perpetually inebriated. Alcohol withdrawal is much more serious, the most severe type known as delirium tremens (DT). Symptoms may include nausea, tremors, anxiety, hallucinations, and seizures that may require anti-seizure meds and antipsychotics. Alcohol withdrawal is a little more serious, don't you think?
