THE HEAVENLY SANCTUARY | The Word Exposed with Cardinal Tagle (May 12, 2024)
We are celebrating today the Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord; and Saint Mark’s account tells us that before the Risen Lord ascended into heaven, he commissioned his disciples to “proclaim the gospel to every creature,” sending them to baptize people and to lay hands on the sick and drive out demons.
In other words, brothers and sisters, the Risen Lord sent his disciples to continue the work for God’s Kingdom that he had started during his public ministry.
The disciples in turn passed on this mission to each of us through the church.
As we move to the ordinary time of the liturgical calendar, may we, like the disciples of old, go forth and preach everywhere. Let us count on Jesus who, from heaven, continues his work with and in us.
