I indeed didn't grow up witnessing healthy parent relationships. (Mom is a BAMF for her healing journey out of toxicity.) How do you figure out what you're willing to compromise? Especially if you've never been in a relationship? The only deal-breakers I can think of right now are smoking, and I'm hyper-aware of signs of abuse.

Another takeaway for me: she can't be the only person in my life to meet my needs. I did grow up thinking relationships had to be this way (and that I would do the same for her). It's rather relieving to know that it's acceptable and normal to have friends and other people (to a fault I presume? 😅) and things to fill those needs.
