Gilbert Gottfried was world famous for his comedy, but most people didn't realize that he was also a very talent visual artist!
Inspired by his passing in 2022, his daughter, Lily Gottfried, now 16 years old, made a documentary short about her father's hidden talent.

Just when you thought it wasn’t possible to miss Gilbert more, here comes this wonderful, insightful and quietly moving documentary! Not just a testament to Gilbert’s incredible artistic talent, but also to his effectiveness as a father…to have been so loving that he would inspire this heartfelt film from his daughter speaks volumes about him as a human being. Most of us only got to see one side of Gilbert, the take-no-prisoners, deliriously unapologetic dirty joke spewing stand up. Now we have a small insight into another side of him, and I will be forever grateful to Lily for sharing it with us. Gilbert was such a gift to us all, and I know he will continue to be long after we’re gone. Thank you Lily!

I love that teacher who actually saw his talents and encouraged it! My dream was to be a cartoonist and in 8th grade My art teacher said I wasn’t good enough to be in her class, I stopped drawing after that. It's so important to realize the impact a good teacher can have. I had a few that basically formed the course of my life. For all the teachers that have, or continue to, just write "doesn't apply himself", do is all a favor and find a different line of work. We don't need more people that just point out problems.

Idk if you'll ever read this Lily, but I'm deeply sorry about you losing your dad. My dad also passed away recently, in 2021. I never knew your dad, but I grew up watching his movies and my own dad actually introduced me to his comedy. So, in a way I guess I feel like I knew him. Lily this is awesome! Thank you. Back in the day there were very few of us that recognized the was a genius behind the character. I wonder why he didn't use some of the drawings for album or DVD covers? I think he mightve hid that because he thought it'd turn off some of the audience if they thought he was smarter than them. Norm MacDonald was the same, he was brilliant but acted less smart than he was

I knew of Gilbert before but what made me a fan was Norm MacDonald’s interview show on RU-vid. He was something else on that show, milking the jokes a million times over. And Norm, another provocateur, laughing his ass off. This short film of him shows a bit of the other side of him which I suspected he had. Because nobody can be obnoxious all the time. 😀

I remember the first time I saw him on stage. I remember thinking how easy he made it look. Everything seemed to work. Every nuance of the performance was brilliant. It's hard to imagine how much work it took to make it look that easy. Lots of people are able to project an aura of innocence while just giving hints of the underlying irreverence. Gilbert did the opposite, which seemed impossible to me before he was doing it. He cast this outward sense of irreverence, while there was this undertow of innocence. His art seems to do the same thing. I had no idea he could do this. And to Lily, aside from the obviously storytelling skills, the love and respect for her dad is heartwarming. Lily, I'm sorry that you lost your daddy.
