This route is just under 24 miles long and is a perfect for Winter, even after prolonged rain. If you are looking for a ride which you can hack along at a good speed, this is the one for you. I frequently use this route when the emphasis is on quality rather than quantity.
The route can be downloaded from Komoot: www.komoot.com...
or also from my Ko-fi page. You can make a donation or just enter £0 to download for free: ko-fi.com/s/fa...

Yep, if you're going to ride off-road in the UK you have to embrace a bit of muck! However, for us, a decent rear mudguard makes a huge difference. It also makes a cafe stop easier 👍

I was thinking the same about a mudguard!

To be honest I have used ass savers etc . I tend not to bother but if I was out on a group ride I would. It is very rare for me to have a cafe stop.

Only you could still laugh and joke, in the pouring down rain, with mud up your back and thick clag everywhere. Knocking out 23 miles, like it was a ride to the shops and not even getting out of breath..wow! Like your idea of doing shorter winter rides at a greater intensity. A bit of HIIT training anyone!? Another charming little video that made me smile. Looking forward to the next one. Take care Julie. 😊

What a nice vid! Yes, it has its advantages to go cycling in the rain, you got the world to yourself. Also, very nice when you get back home, can get a hot shower and a hot drink.

Thanks Brian. It wasn’t easy to film but I have to say, I loved it. I realise I sound like a ‘humbug’ it was fab just being able to hack along and not worry about others. :-)

Thanks. I quite liked the fact no one else was there! ‘Humbug Phelan’ lol ! The High Peak, Tissington and the Monsal trails are great for tough days. Thanks for commenting.

Hi Julie. You may recall meeting you on the High Peak Trail earlier this year and I mentioned that I tried to do this route previously. I travelled from MiddletonTop to Parsley Hay then down the Tissington Trail BUT missed the turning to get back onto the HPT and ended up doing the full length of the Tissington Trail !! Tried again but this time plotted the route and was more successfull even the my garmin device tried to direct me through a field that definitely wasn't part of the route but I managed to complete it. Next time was with the grandkids and I didn't have to use the satnav this time. I will take them again and this time will probably do the same route as you just for a bit of variety. It's a great route and we all love the cafe stop at Parsley Hay and I always call in at the cycle shop and have a nosey.

Hi Graham, yep I remember. During this ride I did that route in reverse order. The cafes are nice. I'm not sure if they are open everyday at the moment ( Winter opening times) . Thanks for commenting. Hopefully I'll bump into you again, not literally I hope lol ! Take care

Thanks Julie. I may have mentioned I was on the look out for an entry level gravel bike, which I have since purchased, a Cannondale Topstone 4, so might use it on that ride.

@@grahamlynch1953 perfect. The only rough bit at the mo’ due to the weather erosion etc is the by way which crosses over. All do able on 40mm tyres but select the smoother lines- ‘that’s my teaching head lol ‘ I am riding with 45mm for Winter so can be reckless lol

@JuliePhelanExplore Yes, I remember it, full of pot holes and water filled due to recent heavy rain when I did it on my own.

Did this ride today! The trail up and down to Biggin was a bit sketchy! Very loose stones and thick ice! Good route though. 😊
@JuliePhelanExplore
@JuliePhelanExplore 9 месяцев назад
Omg ! Thick ice! There has been a fair bit of water erosion on that section recently. It will change during the Spring and Summer because it’s not usually like that. I recent wet weather has changed a lot of tracks, I’ve heard! Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for commenting .

I’m close to Belper, do you have any routes starting and finishing from there? This one looks great I may do it this weekend
@JuliePhelanExplore
@JuliePhelanExplore 9 месяцев назад
I don’t if you’re aware but I live in Belper. I access a number of these routes via the canal towpath in Ambergate. If I want to get to the High Peak Trail quickly, I ride over via Belper Lane End on small roads to the Black Rocks carpark. If you need any more help please ask.

Hi Julie. Cool route that. Have been doing similar myself. BTW can you reveal a secret how do you create an animated route map? Thanks
@JuliePhelanExplore
@JuliePhelanExplore 8 месяцев назад
Hi, the secret to the animated maps is my partner... they are created in Fusion, which is part of DaVinci Resolve, the editing program we use. There are a few tutorials on YT.

I notice you have a cycle with drops - do you ever use them off road? I use a MTB with straight handlebars with cow horns just so I can take a different grip every now and then.

Hi Carl, yes if I am stepping on the gas; riding steep drop offs/ descents and when I need a big handful of brake.
