I think the Prologue to BF1 was amazing. The campaign in general was great, but I did wish we had a full war story focused on the infantry combat of the western front like Storm of Steel is.
Yes me to it’s cool to see some other front’s but it would be so good to see a full story from a soldier on the western front specially with those fantastic graphics Battlefield 1 got it would be so cool to see more no’man’s land
The jazz music at the beginning is definitely a nod to the genre being made popular by the hellfighters but the choice of song also makes sense because that scene seems to be from the future, where the veteran is suffering from at least some form of shell shock.
DICE should add a game mode where it would be similar to the prologue of the war story's in which you spawn is as a completely random soldier with what ever equipment he has and when you die it'll show the name of the soldier (of course that might be too complex) and then "bring" you to another soldier. i think that would be pretty neat, especially because you can't just customize your load out so you'd have to make do with what you get
That kinda would be campaign with multiplayer in it...They can't do that anyways because: If 2 people die they may end up in the same person that they spawned as so the functions won't work right... But if they could that would be pretty pretty pretty c0ol! So yeah get my point?
I'm not Saying this to get a "Thanks" but Flakfire you and your videos are for sure the most in depth and professional videos, can't wait for Avanti Savoia:)
Owen Wolf Co. Can't blame you mate. The fact that pretty much all the popular weapons that people asked for in BF1 including the infantry attachment for the m1903 experimental and burton lmr are finally in the game and it's really nice knowing that's the case.
I honestly wish there were more War Stories like Storm of Steel, centred around just the trench lines and charges that happened. I'm sure I don't have to give examples, but something like out of the War Horse movie, where Albert and the British army charge into No Man's Land and are basically cut down. A surprise gas attack could happen and then the mission would be to get out of the gas zone. I don't know, I think DICE kinda missed out on what basically everyone associates with WW1. Having unique missions like we already have in important, but I really do think there should've been more War Stories centred around the soldiers that were dug in the trenches of WW1. A multiplayer mission completely centred around a No Man's Land style area would've been awesome, and would be great for people who make cinematic works. I know St Quentin Star kinda has a portion of the map like No Man's Land, but that's barely used, as that's on the very edge of the map. Overall, Storm of Steel is admittedly my favourite out of all the War Stories. And for an introductory mission, that says something. I just love and oddly hate how much it makes me think "Wow, this is WW1 right here"
Considering the feature that each War Story is a different person, and based on the success of the campaign this time round, I can imagine there could very well be War Stories included with DLC
This is a great idea for a series.Looking forward to the rest.I really enjoyed the prologue,it threw you in head first and didn't let up,really showing the desperation and hopelessness of the situation.
As always thank you for taking the time to research and present so much historical information‼️ I'll have to see if I bump into you on the battlefield sometime, I too play on the XB1, I however live in Norway so the time zone makes for interesting evenings full of random world wide players mostly the outsiders are from the US 😱
Great video! The prologue was nuts 🥜! Very engaging! Haven’t put the game down since. Have many other new games but nothing as engaging as BF1. Keep coming back for more.
This is my most favorite war story in BF1 1. When you die you switch characters which made me think of the lose of life in WW1 2. It shows that war is not romanticize and the narration when you die is basically how people thought in the war 3. Its something I wished Dice made more war story's like
Awesome i really enjoyed the war stories, hope they go a little deeper into some of the heriocs and hell the war vets had too go through as long as it can be done as tastefully as can be..
Flakfire Thanks for agreeing on that Flakfire! It would've been cool as hell to go through a campaign Call of Duty style so that we could get into the characters and actually learn about WW1 because it's not that well known to the general populace. Again, that part was way too short!
at 2:32 there is a British soldier standing beside the trench and waving his hands its not only the Harlem hell fighters and the French there are also British soldiers
The epiloge was gutwrenching, overall i like the SP in bf1, and one more thing, i have some connection with a guy in Dice here in Swe, i will post this vid to him :) #fingerscross Keep up the good work man !!
I have pretty much attempted to do the same thing you're undertaking, Flakfire. Your research seems comprehensive. If you ever get the hankering to watch much smaller channels, you're welcome to check my attempts out, trite as they may seem. Keep up the good work!
The part where the soldier is stabbed through the hand and then proceeds to pound on the German soldier is from a movie called Passchendaele. If you watch it the same thing happens here like the film. So I thought that this was set in Passchendaele. Could be just a little easter egg though.
I think all these are flashbacks as told by the protagonist prospective, so maybe the intro song isn't too inaccurate as the guy did survive at the end.
It's sort of strange that DICE would choose to give you an Italian sub machine gun as one of the weapons, I would of loved to see the SMLE MKIII Infantry in storm of steel.
I'm not sure if it's some secret or anything but once I was playing storm of steel and one time instead of a name appearing when I died, it said Unknown Soldier of The Great War
Yes trenches are a symbol of WW1, but that simply wasn't the case, trenches were mainly in ze Deutschland, and Austrian-Hungarian empire. There was trench, desert, winter(mainly on eastern-Russian front), and city warfare.
Hey Flakfire, I'm wondering what the rifle one of the soldiers is using is. I believe it's a Canadain Ross Rifle, but that wouldn't make sense as its not in the game and was only used by Canadians until 1916 because of it's unreliability.
At the start you say creative liberty i say its a alternative universe when the hellriegal is a thing that was used in the war yet everything else is the same with creative liberty
Don't forget the Harlem Hellfighters that used Trench Guns (they didn't, they only used French rifles and carbines) and when they famously used Italian submachine guns!
Great content as always Flakfire, by the way it was a great honor to play in a game against you a few days ago on Operations in San Quentins Scar. My user ID is MELEE_OVERDRIVE.
Flakfire, I realize you have probably moved on at this point, what with EA having a new game and all, but y'all might find this interesting anyway. The Storm of Steel scenario itself very closely resembles an account written by the Hellfighter Horace Pippin. He and his unit, Company K, 3rd Battalion, 369th, were ambushed by German troops during the offensive which you discuss in your film. Pippin and his men were ambushed at a road cresting a hill while they were on their way to a new trench position. In attempting to reach this position, Pippin fought in a trench system, in a bombed out church, and across a field, all of which are seen, though briefly, in Storm of Steel. If you wanna read his notebooks about his experience as a Hellfighter, the Smithsonian has them digitized on their website. Its a tough a read since he is not very good at spelling, but he was a great story teller and eventually a great artist.
That's a pretty cool story! I will take a look at the docs. In the meantime, if you played BFV's The Last Tiger, I have some special stuff planned for that here.
i kind of think Storm of steel should have been German cantered given the name of this vinriet is cleanly named after the Ernst Junger book and it would be interesting seeing a German view of the war and playing the agressive storm trooper armed with maybe a pistol, lots of hand-grenades and close combat weapons though that being said had they red the book and tried to addpted parts in to the game it be decried as unrealistic or over the top (no pun intended)
No, this practice of the US giving units to foreign countries is uncommon. At the beginning of the war, the US made sure to not reassign their regiments to France or Britain. However the Harlem Hellfighters/369th were essentially disowned by their government, it was unusual to send your men to a different country; this is the importance, that this regiment (with few others) weren't seen as combat effective (because they were black) and were giving away. It was seen as a spit in the face.
