In the early 90s, I was on a national cycling team in the commonwealth. Day 1 at 14, I was informed by team Dr's I would be getting what they called Vitamins, injected daily. During tours, the medical van would roll up beside us and we would be injected with what I can only think was some sort of speed. I never pissed hot.

Damn, they (in that case the German National team) told my uncle the same thing when they injected stuff into him. He was also underage at this time. He went on to win a bronze medal at the Olympics in Seoul in 1988 in the 1000m time trial. Of course he was also on PEDs at the time but they didn’t catch him. He only confessed it around the time of the big doping scandals in cycling in the 2000s as he wanted to shine light on the institutionalization of doping.

Funny story. I was probably given steroids as a junior cyclist (we all got shots that we did not know what it was, we were told they were vitamins) but then I got in a big crash, had head trauma and a concussion and either from that or the high dosages of anti-seizure drugs I took for years afterwards, destroyed my pituitary gland and I stopped growing at the age of 15. Now, at 44 yo, I'm finally about to start taking growth hormone, prescribed by my endocrinologist, although I'm fully aware I'm not going to get taller... that ship has passed. :) I'm 5'5" and I should be at least 5'9".

I used to be a competitive gymnast throughout the 1990s and instead of bulking up the ideal was to stay thin and as prepubescent as possible. I, and a few other girls used ephedra to keep our weight down while keeping our energy and endurance going through the long training hours which at that time was 6-8 hours. In the article, it was reported that Lewis refused to be tested by Olympic officials in what is a common occurrence of "spot testing" when they show up unannounced at training sessions. It's been a while since I've read the article but I believe that the reporter wrote that the USOC alibied Lewis, or as you put it "covered" for him, but according to the international rules, any athlete that refuses to be tested is disqualified from participating in the Olympics... Bud Selig is in the Hall of Fame…but the players who took substances that weren’t on the Banned list and who’s performances made baseball under his tenure explode in popularity, they don’t get the same level of appreciation. They’re denied the Plaque in Cooperstown

The idea of weighing in right before the fight isn't that people would fight dehydrated -it would soon become apparent that is not a viable option and people would go into the fight at the weight which is most suitable for them. It's the fact that they have a 24hr period to "put on" (regain) weight, that drives them to such ridiculous dehydration measures.

They're not "making" weight, they're pretending that they weigh less than they do.

I had a Great Uncle by the name of Alvin Roy, he served in the US Army in World War II in the European theatre. He saw what the Germans were using and noticed that it helped with the breaking down of muscles and rejuvenating them more quickly. He brought it back to the states and started administering them to the weightlifting team in the Melbourne Olympics which he was a coach on. Afterwards, he worked with the LSU football team helping them win the 1958 National Championship and then started working for the Los Angeles Chargers of the AFL introducing steroids to the players then.

As a lover of mma, a lover of early 2000’s baseball, someone who’s from Jose Canceco’s hometown of Hialeah (Miami), and a guy who played against (and with) a lot of the guys named in the biogenesis scandal in Miami I fucking loved this!! Big shoutout to Derek too! Great job Jason!
