The fact that Katara was able to use blood bending on another human on her first try when it took Hama decades to do really shows how powerful she really is.

What affects me the most about all of this, without knowing why, is the fact that Katara, the only one of the five people able to bloodbend, that despised herself for ever learning the technique, is the last person known in the entire Avatar world able to bloodbend.

Hama was the first recorded bloodbender but probably not first to develop the technique. Yakone mentioned that his family has the strongest line of bloodbenders. Which would imply that there may have been waterbenders who secretly developed and practiced bloodbending long before Hama figured how to do it herself.

Man, Korra seems like a VERY different show than Avatar.

Kinda disappointing how Katara's the only blood bender left. Maybe Korra could learn it to defeat a new enemy, but I doubt that Katara would be willing to teach it to her.

I love how he just tanks a lightning bender attack directly and is just “tv show harmed” like he got bruises from being thrown but not ripped in half from being the only person we’ve ever seen get hit completely head on by lightning bending

If Katara actually trained in blood bending she would be the best blood bender in my opinion.

What should have tipped Katara off that Hama was up to something was that Hama says that she intends to teach Katara some Southern Water Tribe bending techniques. She taught her how to extract water when there's no water. That's not something a water bender who lives in the South Pole will need to learn.

watching this episode as a child, it was the creepiest thing i had witnessed, imagining someone controlling me with my blood. of course bc i was a kid, it seemed evil. now, 18 yrs old, rewatching, it seems incredibly useful.

Water benders were just more stronger than fire benders. Firebenders even made containment rooms for other firebenders filled with ice if I’m not mistaken in one of the episodes where sokka and zuko went to save suki.

ive always thought bloodbending was a weird one blood circulates throughout your body at high speeds and is mostly likely why most waterbenders cant bend it and when a loodbender does bend it it pretty much stops circulation as seen everytime someone does it the victim stops and it unable to move in this case it only takes a few seconds of control over someone to knock them unconscious as no oxygen is being supplied to the body so theory: maybe bloodbending doesnt bend *blood*, but the fluids inside your cells aka cytoplasm. thats how theyre able to control movements but if need they can bend the actual blood of an organism, knocking them unconscious

I actually thought of more "dark arts" bending. Fire could bend the lifeforce or body heat in a person. Earth could bend the carbon/iron/etc in a person's body. Air... as said and seen, could suck out all the air from a person.

Ya know, when you said Katara was left as the last bloodbender left at the end of the season, I never thought of it until you said it.

Isn't water bending someone better than blood bending someone, since humans are more than 80% water, a bender could easily dehydrate another person.

Bloodbending just seems like a crime against humanity.

Blood bending doesn't need to be all bad. I can imagine a healer using blood bending to clot a wound or administer medicine. Or imagine if law-enforcement used it to subdue a powerful enemy. Bending is just a tool. What matters is how you use it. The Avatar is supposed to be about balance, and I feel like the writers were missing this.

always thought the death of tarlcok and ahmen was overlooked. Tarlcok says "just like the good ole' times." and a tear falls down ahmens face, as tarlock explodes the boat killing both of them. Was never really brought up again and i thought it was one of the saddest parts in the show.

See the thing about Hamma that I never understood was when she freed herself why did she not free her fellow water benders? It’s show’s them in the cages next to and across from her and yet she doesn’t take a little time to unlock the other cages or at least give someone else the keys in order to save more water benders. Idk seems weird to me.

I realized that metal bending could possibly be used to subtract essential metals and other metal substances from another person’s body and might actually be one of the most gruesome looking ways of killing if it was used like this.

Ranking of All Known Bloodbenders in the Avatar Universe: Least to Most Powerful -- *Updated Sun- June 7, 2020* *1) Hama* - The only waterbender in the multiple millennia that bending has existed to discover and master the ability to manipulate the fluids in a living organism’s body via waterbending. This makes her one of the most resourceful and intelligent waterbenders in the history of the Avatar universe. *2) Katara* - She was able to ultimately resist Hama’s bloodbending grip as well as master the dark art instantly while Hama needed to practice for decades on elephant rats before she was powerful enough to bloodbend a human being. *3) Tarrlok* - He was able to bloodbend without the full moon; a skill that Katara wasn’t able to master as far as canon shows, however, since Katara was able to master bloodbending instantly, it is very plausible that she could have learned to perform bloodbending without the full moon so if she trained herself vigorously like Tarrlok did. *4) Yakone* - He was able to execute “psychic bloodbending” without the aid of the full moon where he can bloodbend with little to no physical movement, a skill that Tarrlok was never able to master. *5) Amon / Noatak* - He possesed Yakone’s psychic bloodbending skills plus he had the ability to eliminate one’s bending ability permanently, which can only be restored by the Avatar

I have nothing against Hama, she did what needs to be done. For all the things that she endured... i can only imagine.

I just thought of a little theory..what if Hama's intention in the beginning (before she knew Katara was a water bender) was about to bloodbend the avatar group into the mountain? I mean think about it, they had the fire nation's clothes, and they both were alone in a forest which would've made it an easy kidnapping since they were close. (just think from Hama's perspective, she probably thought that they were from the fire nation and alone) and why would an old fragile innocent women just be in a forest in the middle of the night? pretty useless theory but..you cant escape the thought that this is a possibility.

A detail about Blood Bending that makes it a bit more unique from other forms of Bending is that instead of the Movements being based on Martial Arts it's based on the hand movements used to make a Marinate (not puppet those are two different things) move

Blood bending is like Shikamaru's shadow ability from Naruto. It can be used for good but the show makes it appear evil. It's how you use it that makes it good or evil.

Poor Katara not only forced to control someone like a puppet but she also ended up handing over the only other surviving southern water bender she had ever met to the fire nation. That stuff would really mess you up.
