I was a costumed performer for Grimace in the late 80s/early 90s. They literally had air fresheners taped to the inside of the costume, and it smelled of grapes & razzberry. I’m thoroughly convinced that is what the Grimace shake is supposed to taste like - his insides.
Grimace's body count explained why he has "grim" in his name for a reason. His milkshake not only bring all boys to the yard, he brought everybody in the yard.
I have a theory on why Grimace used to have four arms: Grimaces reproduce by mitosis. So that was actually him mid-separation with his offspring, or his progenitor in mid-separation with him. Indeed, every new from of Grimace we see might actually be a different Grimace, their numbers multiplying as they spread across the world tasting everything they touch, in preparation for the Great Consuming that is to come.
That would explain why no other Grimaces seem to have four arms. And grimaces reproducing by mitosis is somehow less disturbing than the alternative. He does seem to have two parents, but maybe some Grimaces in recent years have decided to practice marriage, possibly learning about it on pilgrimages.
@@TMNT_Luver222 yeah~ Not cool, in my perspective. Again, I keep thinking it's food poisoning. I recently went to a McDonald's and got a bit scared when seeing the shake as an item on the menu. Again, I didn’t know if it was food poisoning.
Something is so interesting about him talking about McDonald’s mascots as real people. Mayor McCheese having to step down for lawsuits. I’m down for this. And no wonder there’s so many horror games set during this time period. It’s amazing EVERY kid didn’t have nightmares.
So many lives taken in so little time. Hopefully the future generations know to celebrate his birthday without the grimace shake......for the brand new grimace burger. One bite and you'll love it (Shows me on ground bleeding purple)
So ex husband's dad was a District Manager for McDonald's, and I have one of the original evil Grimace cookies with 4 arms. Lol. Never thought I'd see something like this!
@dsalmeron I wish I could post a picture of it. Talk about having a weird little keepsake. What's even funnier is when I've mentioned it in the past, no one believes that Grimace had 4 arms and was evil. Lol.
Hell ya I am so here for this ! . I never got to try one of those shakes but I still want to . I never paid much attention to the lore of this restaurant till now haha
"You're standing in a huddle of grimaces... it's not such a far-fetched story, is it?" I'm sorry but that killed me. And why did I think Grimace was nice and so snuggly?! Thank you so much for this video. I never knew I needed a Grimace lore video but this was so well done and interesting.
About a month before tje Grimance shake became a thing I got a new/ used car a Honda Fit...my sister in law named it Grimace because of its deep purple colour. Now I love the name even more. I always saw him of McDonald's Cookie Monster.
Hey bucko! I LOVED the pun there at time stamp 0:53, where you stated how grimace is also linked to the adjective to show great repulsement, great video! Keep up the good work!
I remember watching this animated video called "Search For Grimace Island," and back then found it funny. Probably not now but back then after seeing that video I honestly didn't know how anyone could find him scary.
I remember receiving the legend of grimace Island on VHS when I went to McDonald's all those years ago and that was the only day I ever received. Time flies
Love that this is getting a horrir history. Grimace killed my childhood hero kevin chamberlain. *in Jesse pinkmans voice HE CANT KEEP GETTING AWAY WITH THIS!
The way you had it ending, reminded me of the movie "The Stuff" (1985), where mysterious goo that oozes from the earth is marketed as the newest dessert sensation. If possible, this movie could make a good video is some way, just a suggestion.
Wow, flashbacks!!! I totally remember the old playgrounds at McDonald's. Well, bits and pieces anyway... it's been 40-some years! But I do remember the fiberglass tree sculpture, and the Grimace cage. I think Mayor McCheese had like a tube body with a ladder inside, where you could climb up into his head that was like a UFO shaped roundabout cage kinda thing. And I do remember Ronald and the Hamburglar, but I can't remember if they we're playground items, or just fiberglass statues like the tree. Total blast from the past, lol! I think those playgrounds were removed when the whole Mayor McCheese lawsuit happened, and were eventually replaced with the plastic tube playgrounds. Anyway, thanks for the video!!!
Also, I helped jumpstart the animated McDonaldland campaign in the late 90s/early 00’s by schilling those VHS tapes to schools with free Happy Meal coupons. Each classroom viewed a tape containing small clips played from the volumes we sold with meals. Kids loved it. During my 17 years with McDonald’s corporate, I never once ate anything we sold - with the exception of the McRib - because they used to actually be made with real pork tenderloin 🤷🏼♀️
I actually used to have two of those McDonald's VHS tapes when I was a kid. I had the Scared Silly tape and Birthday World tape :) I also had the Ronald McDonald cassette tape they gave out at one point that had like songs on it. I had two of them LOL
Ever since they started having the Grimace Shake I wanted SO badly to try it. I didn't even see the creepy videos or any publicity stunts, i just wanted it because it was a new flavor. Then, when my dad finally went and got me one, they were sold out of the shake mix and I got like a few drops of purple in a vanilla shake. I know it's stupid, but it still irritated me
I was born in 1971, about two months after Grimace. But I remember him being evil when I was very little. And one thing not mentioned... (UNDISCUSSED GRIMACE INFO): Unfortunately, I can't remember when, but McD's discontinued the McDonalds version of Animal Crackers which were shaped like McDonalds characters instead of animals. All the way up to that point somewhere in the 2000's (I think) the Grimace shaped cookie STILL HAD 4 ARMS! This was final proof for me that I didn't just hallucinate (like a lot of kids in the 70's) that grimace was evil and had four arms. And yet everyone I explained this too looked at me like I was crazy and said they didn't believe me. I should have kept a box of those cookies, Damit. But now, thankfully, I finally have an entire documentary of Grimace, and my faded 70's memories turned out to be true.
Grimace was my first crush as a kid, i always wanted to be a mixture of cousin it, grimace and godzilla. Even 22 years later i agree with my kid self. But im also glad you followed up with your comment on billy cobbs video.
I’m a couple months older than Grimace, and I “love” Grimace. I thought the shake flavor was a mix of Fruity Pebbles, blueberries and vanilla yogurt. 💜
Those TikToks are so disturbing! So sick. The Grimace shake is just a vanilla shake with lots of food coloring. I should know because I had it 5x and every time I had allergic reactions that I would have towards Red 40.
can i just say that i am a long time grimace fan so when i saw the birthday meal and stuff, as well as when they had the grimace for the adult happy meals (which i never got :(((((, i got so excited. so like seeing this video now, like ty! ive been telling all my coworkers grimace trivia bc i had watched the grimace island movie. so nowi can just link this to ppl! and i feel less like a dork lol
Also, Grimace was an inspiration for Mr. Munch who always loved the same thing: Pizza. And they are both purple aliens coming from somewhere unknown, probably Mr. Munch is Grimace's inspiration.
I knew a Japanese guy in college and asked him about the weird McDonald's commercials to see if they were real. He verified what I suspected, They aren't real. But he also translated them for me. And they're extra creepy when you know what he's saying. " I'll always be there for you. McDonald's"
CZ great job on this! I wasn't ever scared of him the hamburgler seemed more creepy to me. So I don't really eat there but I really wanted to get a shake as my birthday was in June too but I totally forgot 😭. But hey I hope everyone who drunk one grimmest with joy 💜
Birdy, being "The Early Bird", was representative of McDonald's breakfast selections, which, when it arrived in 1972, was considered an innovation in the industry. Birdy was the mascot introduced for that particular ad campaign.
Good video. I was born in 69 and grew up to the fun days of McDonalds with all of it's characters and fun commercials . Was waiting for you to mention " The French Fry Guys" Grimace is indeed a taste bud . When McDonald's launched their milkshake they used him to chase after and steal the milkshakes because they tasted so good. He was the hamburglar of the milk shake . Why they called him Grimace is beyond me. Maybe because of his facial expression?
What absolutely SENT me about the Grimace trend was how the genocide protesters, during the Macys Thanksgiving parade, decided to plant themselves RIGHT IN FRONT OF GRIMACE 😭 cause it was a serious protest but the fact that it was a genocide protest after the trend was too serious to be satire but it cracks me up 🤣
You know how Roku has a starting scene before the home of all the other apps? Like the purple city? If you look closely at the looped video at McDonald’s, it will have grimace and another girl grimace with pigtails and it has birthday balloons idk if it still has it or if that was just there for his birthday but maybe that will help with something
When they said he was a taste bud... All I could think about was an episode of 'The Tick' when all the attendees of the mad science fair got their minds switched by J.J. Vatos mind switching device. Arthur ends up in Dr. Mungmung's abomination Tungtung, a giant walking tongue. On their way to chairface's hideout, Arthur in Tungtung and The Tick in a zebra. The Tick (in zebra body) to Arthur (in Tungtung) who is riding zebra Tick: The Tick: how you doing chum? Arthur: (horrified) I.... Can.... Taste your back...
