Evolution of the battle rifle could actually be intresting since each game's BR actually feels very different. Actually forget that evolution of the ghost would be super cool
Halo 5 scorpian is the best scorpian because it is the most realistic one due to it having a 150mm etc cannon instead of the tiny 90mm gun used on pershings from ww2 but it's a export variant that was made for japan after the war. I'm serious if u look at the casings in reach it's the same aphe shells used by that 90mm cannon that was used in ww2
I believe in scorpian tank supremacy. But seriously the way they were used in 1-3 felt amazing, sparingly and used as a big moment of fun for the player to roll over the enemies with it, (the most challenging fight with it you ever had was against the scarab, it was great getting revenge for the scorpian a scarab blew up in 2) they knew what the players wanted out of it and gave it to them. Specifically the mission on the bridge in Halo 2 will forever be in my mind for, as a kid, blowing up covenant dropships and my mind. I also really love the scorpian tail cannon design no matter how impractical.
the Spare tracks on the scorpion are on vulnerable parts of the tank to act as extra armor This was very common in WW2 when tanks like Sherman’s and panzers were constantly outgunned and didn’t feel safe so they added spare tracks all over the tanks to act as an extra layer of safety
Yes and no... they were issued spare track for field replacement.. and the tanks had specific hard points set up for storage (and the designers said "if they have to carry it anyway, why not put it somewhere it could double as armor?")... but the crews would keep old tracks as even more extra armor instead of discarding them... so it was both intentional designe AND field improvisation at the same time
Just something for future videos following this series (yes, I'm invested in it quite thoroughly). If you do cover vehicles that don't return, but have similar iterations of that style of vehicle (such as the hornet to the falcon to the wasp), it'd be a good idea to group them together. It'd be interesting if you group the warthog variants together, or if you separate them into the warthog, gauss hog, etc.
@@LaperLarden also, I was thinking that when you inevitably run out of vehicles, a weapon series would be nice to watch or heck, an equipment or abilities series
The only thing I never really got about the Scorpion was why Bungie and then later 343 INSISTED the cannon was a 90mm. 90mm is TINY for a tank cannon, most modern ones are armed with 120. The only thing I could think of was that, despite being called a main battle tank, the Scorpion was actually designed as an air-dropped "medium" to support Marine and ODST pushes into targets via Pelican airlift, like we see it in every game more or less. And then Halo Wars introduced us to the Grizzly...no commentary from anyone on that connection of course but thats what Ive chosen to work with.
@@pewpew3377 It's not merely a tungsten round because it clearly packs HE. It is also not a high velocity round given that the L/44 that the Abrams packs fires at around 1,500ft/s whereas the Scorpion fires at no more than 800ft/s. I would call the chassis/gun combination a IFV as it can carry troops and primarily supports them, and the gun it sports is basically a self propelled field gun. The Scorpion weighs 35 tons while an Abrams is a whopping 55 tons. The closest comparison would be a Sherman tank, at 33 tons, which in modern standards is a light tank, but has little to no troop carrying function; ie still a tank.
Yeah, relative to chief's head the canon barrel is closer to 120mm than 90mm. These days 100mm is a repeater scale round, a good autoloader like a certain french canon, can feed more than 2 rounds per second, so if it's 90mm, it's a step backwards in technology. (Corrected for the Fanboy)
(i'm like really late on this) you know whats funny and not sure if you notice (you probably did already) but the HI tank actually looks more in line with blur's tank in halo 2A cutscene just with some changes
Love the OG Scorpion, the Thousand of hours i got piloting it, ahh nothing better than to blow up any inhuman SOB dumb enough to get in my way!, but stilll, the inaccuracy gets a little bit.... okay a lot, annoying after a while XD. Honestly, the H2 is the perfect one for me, its still the OG desing with touch ups, but the accuracy is perfect.....and we still got the driver MG, (looking at you H3, ODST, REACH, H4, H5:G Scorpions)
One thing i'd like to add about the Scorpions design is that in Halo CE and 2 (possibly in 3 too, I don't remember) has two hatches, suggesting it has a standard crew of 2 people, one presumably being the driver while the other is the gunner
That's correct. It CAN be driven by one operator using a neural lace, but that's assumed to be the exception and not the rule. OG Halo canon was pretty grounded. Standard was two.
First time ever watching this channel and I am interested in seeing more. I am one of the people who likes the M820 Scorpion design, for the most part. Like many of the Halo 4-5 designs, it's a good concept but with too much clutter. Realistic tanks are cool; the M820 turret especially has a great shape. I'd like to see a refined version in a future game. Set the turret further back, simplify the basic shapes of each part, and use realistic things like sensors, APS pods, spare parts, and stowage to add detail where needed. Oh, and give it both an HMG turret manned by a second player, and a weaker coaxial MG for the pilot. I shouldn't have to use a main gun shell to take out a Grunt Minor. Nitpicks: 4 crew is not the minimum for a modern tank. While 4-man crews are common, plenty of real-life tanks have 3-man crews thanks to the increasing use of autoloaders.
Very true. I know most Russian and Chinese tanks like the Type 99 tend to use auto-loaders whereas the Abrams is still manual. I think that's what I was mainly thinking of when I wrote that bit.
This video is a lovely revisiting of this tank but I was hoping to see the versions from Halo Wars. I understand they are not a main line game but it would have been interesting to see the comparisons. I love this series though and will be watching more.
@@angelobrewster6293 the rifle Johnson used contact harvest? It would punch a small hole through a good bit of the tank depending on the density of the slug BUT your not gonna get a second shot off lol
The name scorpion is us a lot! You find it in different franchises! Like in C&C in the brotherhood of Nod!!! And the scorpion design is based off some C&C tanks too!!!And I believe in WR to!? That last one is a guess though!? What I do a lot of research in things that get my attention!!
I’m curious what gameplay would be like if we’d gotten more early concepts of the scorpion. Like the M808B2 Sun Devil, which was an anti-air vehicle with a quad 40mm auto cannon or the M808B3 Tarantula which was an MLRS variant that probably could’ve functioned like the early rocket hog
I could’ve sworn bloodline was based off blood gulch. I mean the description of the map makes me think it more. “Tactical operations conducted in this vast gulch train soldiers to withstand the bloody toll of protracted combat
Halo combat evolved guide as well as Halo encyclopedia says the tank in Halo 1 had 2 drivers with a narow lace, or 1 Spartan. I'll never use the tank in the ark mission, boss found the any variant warthog much more capable for that. If you like the scorpion then you would love the grizzly Battle tank with twin cannons, 3 gun, and short range grenade launchers. Or the Rhino plasma tank with beyond sight range of 3 miles.
@@jasperfox6821 it performs like ass, dynamo and shock rifle and pistol make it a sitting duck along with grapple and repulse invalidating it, the sound is just too quiet and subtle for a tank. im glad u have fun in it, im just going off what always happens.

Love it or hate it, the Halo series, with all its flaws, is my favorite series of games. I grew up on Halo 2 and 3 and played Reach in the last years of high school. Nothing will top the Bungie games of my youth
If I would make a scorpion tank it would look life either the one from infinite or halo 5 with the machine gunner spot being from halo five but also have double barreled main guns like what the grizzly had in halo wars and a m808 b coaxial machine gun as well
Halo CE: 5:20 - There is also apparently a jack-o-lantern image underneath the turret of the scorpion Halo 2: 8:42 - Remember when people complained about halo infinite not showing vehicle damage? halo 3: 9:04 - doing it before I can 10:26 - *almost* is a bit misleading when it's the definition of CTRL+C and CTRL+V 11:50 - a bit of a mini rant right here, but the sandbox of halo 3 just seems poorly designed for multiplayer. most gunfights devolve into either BR duels or someone having a power weapon like the splaser, rockets or sniper. the vehicle sandbox is kinda whack, with the chopper being a portable splaser against smaller vehicles. and most (not all, the grav lift is an example of good neutral equipment) equipment is just poorly designed (I'm looking at you power drain) Halo 5: 19:57 - I feel that's more to do with the shape of the main cannon, it still sits in the same spot, but the size and shape of the main body does definitely cast the illusion of the cannon being much further forward. the tank itself is just much shorter 21:11 - I'll list each of the changes between each variant here (figures in bold are estimations due to no exact information being available), with a link at the end of the comment: Corp Scorpion - 15% more base health over the base scorpion Tundra/Woodland/Urban Scorpion - *25%* increased health over the base model ONI Scorpion - ~1.86x shell velocity from main cannon over base model, *25%* larger explosion radius and kill radius over base model, shell can pierce spartans without detonating, shell can bounce, 1.27x faster reload speed over base model, 1.34x more damage on secondary turret, *50%* more health over base version Hannibal Scorpion - shell is replaced with laser, *50%* higher move speed over base version, reduced splash radius (kill radius remains the same), 2/5 firing speed of base secondary turret, 3.75x base secondary turret damage, requires main gun to charge before firing, *40%* more health than base version 21:40 - They actually have quite the place, they are ever so slightly faster than a base spartan, and are often used defensively, especially in warzone, after your core becomes vulnerable (you tend to see especially heavy use of the ONI variant there) Halo infinite: 22:20 - Warship Gabraakon.MP3 (I listened to way too much of it) 22:46 - I'd argue that it looks closer to the H2A (campaign) scorpion, but with a bit of a glow up 23:48 - you can jump the thing on the rocks on fragmentation 24:23 - Or getting it up on the sniper spawn in High power and sniping the enemy team from up there with massive sight lines 24:50 - And also how good the scorpion pilot is Author notes: I almost didn't make this after I accidentally deleted the comment half way through listing all the changes in each of the scorpion REQ variants Sources: - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KrX_kE-EIWE.html - www.halopedia.org/Corp_Scorpion extra material: - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-q_6b2AAanzg.html
I've got some collabs planned with a few other creators in the works. But hey, maybe one day Latenight will be a possibility! He's one of my biggest inspirations in the content creation scene, so that'd be wild!
Wasn't an animation funnily enough! That was filmed in my garage with a piece of black cloth, some lights, smoke machine and an actual Master Chief helmet. Was a lot of fun to do, albeit a bit tricky.
Bro, you're underrated! You should have WAY more subs! Cool intro! Amazing narration, presentation, and editing! Awesome transitions at the end! Good stuff, man! Can't wait to see more of this series! 😁👍🏻 "TANK BEATS EVERYTHING!" Halo 2, 3, and maybe reach were my favorite versions of the Scorpion. They were insanely powerful and controlled well. I also really loved the shell that ejects from the back of the turret in reach! I hope they can fix up the controls for vehicles in Halo infinite, cause the Scorpion in infinite feels and controls kinda ass! 😅👍🏻
The scorpion in infinite is scary to fight against. We have the skewer and rockets to kill it fast but something about it seems to be more intimidating to go up against compared to say h5. I do however believe the wraith is superior against Spartans but the scorpion has a better time against vehicles
Tbh, I much prefer the prototype "Stealth Tank". It feels futuristic while also being a more grounded and practical design, and the backblast exhaust feature is so cool. While I love the Scorpian as a video game tank, it suffers from being a typical impractical star tank. It's designed to look cool, but as a mechanical design is highly impractical.
I love the Halo 5 scorpion I think it’s aesthetically the most beautiful and realistic iteration in the series. It is basically the only vehicle I use in Warzone, especially warzone firefight. It’s one of the few design choices I actually liked when it came to Halo 5. The Spartans reminded me of anime characters while the covenant were like dinosaur turtle aliens. Prometheans look like they’ve been ripped straight out of Gundam and I can’t stand anime. Covenant vehicles looked great too but it was definitely time to go back to the roots with infinite.
Personally, I am a huge fan of the Halo 5 Scorpion, but I can't lie that I generally just love the Scorpion. It's a classic tank, with a mean aesthetic, hefty firepower, and it makes you feel like an absolute badass. Now, allow me to explain exactly WHY I love the Halo 5 Scorpion's design, before I get torn to shreds. To me, it looks more like a tank should; it's sleek and modern, whilst keeping the same essential design elements from the Scorpion. It looks more refined, and futuristic than those in previous games. Although I do get why someone would find it quite ugly though, the turret is quite chunky, and for some people it might be too big of a leap in design.
I agree, it’s the most practical and realistic while also being futuristic and different. On top of that, it’s armaments are VERY good with its 150mm cannon compared to the 90mm cannon of the classic scorpion. You’d think in the 2500s, tank cannons would be shooting much bigger projectiles, but the m808 goes backwards and shoots 90mm shells, which is the kind of projectile being used in a Pershing from ww2.
The Halo reach Scorpion and Halo 5 Scorpion are the best Scorpion designs thus far, I SAID WHAT I SAID. Also, they've always driven like a drunken donkey parading through town square, which wouldn't piss me off so much if it weren't for the Mantis, the best vehicle so far introduced, proved that Halo could have a vehicle that actually drives like a vehicle should, like the tank ALWAYS should have.
The covenant: can destroy human ships with ease have wiped out 2/3 of humanity in a short amount of time. Also the covenant: cant take out a tank that is basically the same as a tank from 2022
Ahh I kinda wish you included that part in halo 3 the ark mission - tank beats ghost. Tank beats wraith. (Shoot down phantom) tank beats everything. But anyways yeah Halo 1 decent but inaccurate Halo 2 slow but accurate Halo 3 fast and accurate
I don't know I agree with your take on CEs scorpion Being inaccurate On my original copy of CE if you stand next to the scorpion with the button promt to enter the scorpion then use a sniper you could line up a headshot across Blood gulch enter the scorpion and take the shot with the same accuracy as the sniper
@@bluejayfabrications2216 😂😂 that's the first shot. It's the same with plasma pistols and some other inaccurate weapons. First shot always hits. The rest then start spewing randomly. You didn't think of that did you💀
To be fair to the ce scorpion, you can just turn the tank around then no one can hit you in the head 🤣 plus since your body is not facing the enemy it's quicker to hide behind cover if you run out of shields, I may have camped with the tank on bloodgultch a few times 😅
