It may be an unpopular opinion, but James is one of the most consistent characters on the Steam Team, even during the CGI series. His vain attitude mixed with his willingness to understand where he screwed up is what makes him stand out in my view.

James really is an incredible character especially in the earlier seasons

I revisted the Thomas series a while back and while watching all the seasons, I quickly realized that James was indeed my favorite. I really don't know what it is about James but he sort of stands out against the others in a way that makes me laugh at his personality. He's.....arrogant but not to the point where he's completely irredeemable. But he always wants to get the work done to the best and fullest plus he actually likes to have fun and laugh. He's just...FUN. :)

One thing I've been thinking about. Alec Baldwin tried to give most characters a distinct voice in seasons 5 and 6. I've always wondered why Alec Baldwin gave James more of a flamboyant and elegant voice. That's not a bad thing, in fact it's probably my favorite voice for James, just kind of an oddity.

James is my favorite I love everything about him from his giant ego to his "splendid" red paint, James is the best.

James has always been a favourite for me too. Always loved his energetic and showboat-y personality with a small soft side deep within. His theme is also my favourite out of the character themes for sure. Glad to know his original model's safe and sound!

You forgot to mention how while filming Thomas and the Magic Railroad, James fell off the set. This happened during the smelter's scene. Where diesel 10 threatens him and junior.

Wonderful man. Talking about James, I would love to hear your's and other's most favourite James voice. If you notice James has a very high pitched voice but not to a level of childishness. So, basically like a teen. I would say my personal one was Michael Angelis in the classic series (s1 to7) I just loved his energetic yet a little fed up voice, and he also had a sort of style that no other could replicate for James. And we all know that in the us dub of s5 and 6, James is definitely hiding something, don't we.

For anyone wanting to know about James' model in the 1953 BBC adaption He like Henry and Edward was a repainted Hornby Dublo of Atholl model. No footage or photos of these models are known to exist but can be assumed to have a similar livery to P.R. Wickham's O gauge models (who also painted the models for the 1953 pilot)

James is my second favorite character of the show. I loved him ever since I was a kid. But he is and always will be my favorite regular size tender engine and red engine on Sodor.

Another thing about James: I wonder why there are so many scrap shells of certain characters used as set dressing vs. others. The only characters I remember seeing are Thomas, Gordon, and Donald/ Douglas. Those characters all did a lot of "stunts" early on, so it makes sense. But then you have characters like James and Henry who were also had a lot of screen time and stunts; but you never see them as set dressing.

Just come across this channel, and I have to say I really enjoy it. I stopped watching the show in about season 8 after bullying at school, so I've not yet seen any of the CGI stories, or Busy Bee James as shown in this episode. I love the historical aspects of the show, and all the models. This show is defo the main reason I'm into railways (real and models) as much as I am, although my Hornby Thomas desperately needs a new drive gear.

My favourite character of the ST as well :) The only thing I don't like about him is the fact that in the CGI series, they decided to make him taller, which is incredibly distracting when he is beside engines like Edward. I liked it when the two o them where the same size, and that made the contrast between them stronger. Now James towers over everyone and it doesn't look right

About you shown how in The Green Controller James was painted in what they called a busy bee paint livery. In real life, the Denver and Rio Grande narrow gauge railroad had a similar paint livery they called the Bumblebee, engine 268 on display in Colorado still wears that livery

Here's some trivia about James. A model of James built for a Thomas & Friends Live Show made it into the Guinness Book of Records for being the largest model railway engine ever built.

He said that James' model is based on a Johnson 3F but if I google Johnson 3F it shows an 0-6-0 and not 2-6-0 tender engine. Is this still the "same"?

It's probably for the best that James won't be featured in the reboot. At least that way, our favourite red engine won't get dragged through the proverbial mud like his contemporaries and can instead be remembered fondly for what he was.

You missed one. There was a giant-scale model produced for a 2003 live tour. It actually has the record for largest model railway locomotive.
