I really love how you summed up my own feelings on Oliver in this. Oliver is, without a doubt, my favorite character in the series. The little arc he went through from "Escape" to "Oliver Owns Up" to "Toad Stands By" are among my favorite stories as well, it just had one of the best flows between episodes I've seen. And while I too wish he had more central focused stories, my heart will always go out to the Great Western Engine.

Great video on the history of Oliver the great western railway I loved his introduction in season three of the classic model series and I have a great picture of both him and Duck running on the their line the little western with the late David Mittion in the background that is my favorite treasured piece in my collection 👍❤️🚂

What's crazy is that, when Douglas found them, Oliver and Toad had just barely gotten to Sodor after escaping scrap, but ran out of coal and water behind the Diesel yard in Vicarstown. They would've ultimately failed if Douglas didnt show up when he did.

Oliver is a character that is hard to mimic from his configuration which was very intriguing to me as a kid to how he is as a character!! He could rival Thomas in many ways as superior tank engine.

I think Toad was partially based on Parker from Thunderbirds. His personality that is, I mean Toad is very polite and always Calling the others "Mr." in the same manner as Parker always addressed Lady Penelope "M'lady" but that is just my impression.

Speaking of Oliver, this is a bit of a strange question, but the original video is now marked for kids, so I can’t ask there. I recently watched TheScotsmanReturns’ film The Little Western. Oliver is there, and Jinty is there, but does anyone else know what the other engines featured in it are? Can’t exactly go to the wiki since they’re all original characters, Andy kind of reminds me of Harvey with those big buffers of his.
