When I heard the name Ray Harryhausen I kept thinking of the restaurant in Monsters Inc. maybe that was a possible nod to the stop motion legend

You forgot about his name used in Monster's Inc. The Chinese food restaurant they go to is called, "Harryhausens" because of the monsters he made.

@@chicofnaf7114 Hey first Ray Harryhausen made Stop Motion Animated Dinosaurs 🦖 now Mythical Creatures for his next movie The Golden Voyage Of Sinbad (1974) but why not Ray Harryhausen should sold his drawling picture of Dinosaurs 🦖 for the Modern day filmmakers like Producer Walter Hill Ivan Riteman writer Chris Columbus & Philip Kaufman and Director Don Coscarelli for the film sequel The Goonies 2 (which it should been filmed in 1986 before it will be released in theaters 🎭 in March 1987 that will be interesting if they will called it The Goonies 2 In Search Of The Primeval Island 🏝 that might be intense!) so that way Ray Harryhausen will draw ✍️ a pictures of Dinosaurs 🦖 and Giant Apes 🦍 so he can send them to the modern day filmmakers in the 1980’s!

As a babyboomer I was lucky to have seen most of Harryhausens movies in theaters. Back then the classics were frequently re-released. The magic really happens when you see them on the big screen. Well, being 8 years old also helped a bit, I guess. Anyway, those are memories I'll treasure til I die. I hope his films will live on and be cherished, despite the technical advances in special effects. They deserve it.

Jason and the Argonauts is one of my favorite films of all time. The incredible stop motion animation just highlights such a steller production as a whole. Intelligent characters, perfectly paced story, all coming together that makes it feel like it's taken right from the pages of Greek Mythology. Ray Harrihausen is my biggest inspiration for writing fantasy fiction. Without him, I would not be so keen on bringing tales of heroes and monsters to life as I am now. I hope he rests in peace, as he has made an amazing contribution to this world.

21:00 Since Animat's opinion of the 2010 Clash of the Titans remake got in the way, allow me to tell you a bit about that movie. During production of the film, the writers originally wanted it to be cheesy. But then, another writer who was a fan of the original COTT wanted it to be dark and realistic. Louis Leterrier, the director of that movie, even tried to get some support from Ray Harryhausen. Sam Worthington, the actor of Perseus wasn't so sure about being in the movie because he didn't grow up with the original. But he took the role anyway because he wanted to make a Clash of the Titans for his nine-year-old niece's generation. As for the owl, they debated on including it because they didn't think it was necessary for the story. In the end, they gave it a cameo anyway for nostalgic purposes. In 2013, Leterrier admitted that the movie was a distaster, especially its forced 3D conversion. This is what he said: "It was famously rushed and famously horrible. It was absolutely horrible, the 3D. Nothing was working, it was just a gimmick to steal money from the audience. I’m a good boy and I rolled with the punches and everything, but it’s not my movie". Good thing he's done better works like directing the Incredible Hulk 2008 and the Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance. As for Wrath of the Titans, it recieved even worse reviews than its predecessor. Nothing was learned from the 3D converison mistake and Louis Leterrier was perhaps so embarassed that he didn't want to direct it, leaving Jonathan Liebesman as the director. While the first one was a fine box office success, the second one not so much. A third movie called "Revenge of the Titans" was planned but because of the critical failure of the other two movies and the writers has too few ideas, they scrapped it. Liebesman would later be the same guy who directed the first Michael Bay produced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie.

This presentation is actually very very good and very respectful to Ray Harryhausen and his legacy of great artistry. But for me, with much respect to the presentation, I could’ve used a little less sarcasm in some of extra comments and interjections. But to be sure it is indeed for me one of the best presentations of Ray Harryhausen’s great works.

Do you know what's ironic, many of the companies that made Ray's stop-motion effects obsolete were founded by people who were inspired by him. In other words, Ray Harryhausen was a victim of his own success.

Jason and the Argonauts was NOT the first Harryhausen film released theatrically that was not double billed. Sinbad and Gulliver and Mysterious Island were also released "solo" not billed with another film. And Gulliver had its premiere in London as a Royal Premiere with Queen Elizabeths' family in attendance! And all 3 of those films were also playing in prestigious first run theaters. Get your facts right!

Though I did see the Jason myth on the Library Video version, and I'll point out the differences. Pelias was actually Jason's uncle, Media is King Aetee's daughter and a sorceress instead of a priestess who betrayed her king. And encounters were different in order After arriving to Aetee's kingdom Jason fought the skeleton army of the Dragon's teeth, before he gets the Golden Fleece from the dragon by making it drink a sleeping potion. After Jason ran away with the Fleece they go to Crete and encountered Talos. Though one problem I have with Ray's films is why does he have most of his women play as damsels in distress, is he against women being heroes. Though I haven't seen every Harryhausen movie so your free to point out some things I may have done wrong. Though I thought the remake of Clash was OK,but AniMat you got to stop being biased and prejudiced about reboots, because the real idiot-fest was the critics themselves.Their the real people that insult our intelligence and calls us dumb. Just ignore critical thinking and enjoy for what the movies is. YOU STILL OWE ME FOR PANNING TIM BURTON'S ALICE AND MALEFICENT, serious your becoming the real dumb one,and the real insulting one as much of an insult to my likings as much as Doug Walker! especially when you consider Doug Walker as a hero, when in my view, Doug's the Villain. my archenemy, and the bane of my existence!!!! Screw you critics spawned of Roger Ebert and Doug Walker! I apologize for that but I'm being serious,NO MORE BIASED OPINIONS ON REBOOTS!!!! Back to Ray, it was a little shocking for me to that Ray passed away(heh, made a rhyme). Heck, I was actually going to send a letter to him, but I waited too long.

Not to offend any people who like Ray Harryhausen, which I kind of do, is it that we really like Ray's movies or do we really watch the films just for the creatures in the film and really don't care about the story and characters. That's the feeling I'm starting to get because not many people nowadays don't remember these movies anymore and just fade into obscurity and be only known by filmmakers and film buffs. That's why I didn't see any TV news in the U.S. that even mention Ray Harryhausen.
