So there's another theory going around that Frank Mercer is the player from MW2005 and Carbon. Let me remind you that this is patently impossible. You have to remember that the MW2005 player was the MOST WANTED street racer in the ENTIRE USA. A highly notorious criminal. I know the entry requirements for American police is a joke, but to the point that they'd allow a criminal into the force *without* the pulling of strings by corrupt officials? No. Just, no. Mercer is not the player and the player is not Mercer. End of Story.

the whole scrapyard scenario makes sense. the car ends up in the hands of another racer during a race one night,Shaw illegally impounds the car. the most wanted protagonist is already in Palm City and hears of this police crew while Lucas is on the phone with someone,who? we have no idea.

The NFS M3 GTR was built, not bought or stolen. It has many tell tale signs. No reflector over the exhaust, a stock BMW M3 dashboard, and a different rear window. Somehow the player was in contact with a person who supplied them with M3 GTR parts.

my theory goes as follows: after being "totaled" it was fixed and sold instantly. but without all the extra power the MW player or Razor put in it. the new owner sold the car after a few years for a newer car. The newest owner kept the car and continued to race until he or she arrived in palm city and it was crashed again. then was taken and repaired by the police (we see the m3 gtr on a truck in the infiltration of the warehouse cutscene in heat) Then Mercer tries to escape with the m3 gtr. he is caught and the League fixes the damage done to the car before giving it to the player. The player then upgrades the car with ultimate+ parts giving the M3 GTR back her full power. and i have this personal headcannon that the MW player comes to Plam city and meets the Heat player when he notices the M3 GTR in the garage. the mw player is shocked to see that his car is actually not in a scrap heap and is upset seeing his car that he thought he lost for good is alive and well after being gone for 13 years. the car seems to attract the mw player who lightly caresses the car's body remembering everything that had happened with her. the mw player hugs the M3 and cries his eyes out. While the heat player, Ana and Lucas all look at him with a look of confusion on their faces. the mw player offers to buy the m3 from the heat player. the heat player doesnt want to lose the car the League gave them but after seeing the MW player's actions and the way he gently touched the car lovingly but also as if it was fragile. the heat player realizes that the car that was given to them by the League was the property of man in front of them. the heat player asks if the mw player would like to ride in it. which was gladly accepted. the heat player drives the m3 perfectly and then switches seats with the mw player who ends up driving the m3 even better. the heat player desides that the car should stay with the one who loves her the most. that being the mw player. unknown to the heat player the mw player had bought a similar m3 gtr and had it customized to look exactly like his but had a note inside saying. "Thank you for giving me my car back. I know you liked her so this is my gift to you. a 1 to 1 remake of her. Maybe one of these days we can race together but for now i think im just going to enjoy diving my m3 again." and then there's my idea for the next game which continues off the headcannon but everyone from previous installments are in it. The House now with many of the old bosses is back this time they are coming for everyone. its up to you to beat them again but you now have access to the cars from all across nfs but as a new player. the characters still return but their cars are not unlocked as playable until completing the story with the M3 GTR being one of the best cars in the game. the final boss would be the Collector and it would take a while to get to that point via building up your rep and the trust of other crews. all of the things you do can aid or harm you in the last battle. the bad ending sees you losing the collector and him getting away causing you to lose the unlockable rewards but gain over 50 million bank this can only be done if you didnt get help to ward off the police presence and end up getting wrecked or purposefully letting him get away. the good ending sees all of the nfs casts enjoying a party where in 1 final cutscene the group takes a picture with all of the protagonists faces being covered. the image gets smaller and shows up in a frame above a fireplace and in the background you hear the words "Did you really think that Id stop chasing you" Before tires screech and the screen cuts instantly to black and the credits roll. edit: but then again this is just my thoughts so it really doesnt matter.

Well Darius obviously didn't use the M3 GTR. If you watch the final cutscene of Nfs Carbon you see that he left the city in a Jaguar XKR

It’s in the werehouse on the back of a towtruck in heat and maybe Mercer’s connection managed to snag it from Palmont City and they managed to repair it in that werehouse before getting sold overseas.

Ive always wondered what happened to the most iconic car of the NFS franchise and although those are really good scenarios(speculations) we might probably never know how it got to Palm City for sure.

Here’s my theory BMW M3 GTR driver is a former racecar racer, he got fired so he steals the BMW and repainted it with blue stripes.

The supra was discarded at the venue for Prostreet, as the announcer states in an easter egg that there’s a blue car with the keys left in it, license plate spelling “NFS CARBN”. If we count No Limits canon to the story Maybe the No Limits player lost the car or sold the car in Palm City, either a pinkslip race, stolen, impounded by Mercer, or he sold it Because, there is a special event in the game where you get to drive the car, and there is a possibility that the M3 GTR being in Palm City, is the No Limits player's cause

My theory: Maybe when those giant pipes hit the car in nfs carbon, only the body of the car was damaged, but the engine and other parts are still working. so Darius repaired the car, and he sold it, and then told the player that his car is totaled.

My theory: After the accident at Carbon, the player gave the car to Kim (our assistant at no limits), and Kim fixed the car. After losing to No limits player Marcus King, Kim saw our vengeance and gave us the car, but he came to Razor Blackridge around the time to get the BMW m3 gtr but failed and was arrested. My guess is difficult for the next, but it probably happened like this. While the Player was competing in a race, Mr. Mercer came and confiscated the car. When considering selling the vehicle illegally he failed and tried to escape with the bmw m3 gtr but he was caught and our car switched to the heat player.

Here are my theories/Speculations 1. The Player got the car fixed but got it stolen 2. The player gives the car away, either he sold it or have that chosen driver proves his skills just like in No Limits, maybe, the guy that we play as, in No Limits, got into Palm City and lost the car, or someone just stole the car in Blackridge and have it imported to Palm City Maybe this is what happened to the car No Limits player lost the car or sold the car to Mercer That's if we count No Limits as canon to the Most Wanted, Carbon and Heat story Also, there is no way the player bought the car, since it's none production car, meaning it's not for sale, it's just a prototype race car, which could mean he had stolen it

this just popped out of my recommendations.. i must say, i think EA really did this car dirty. we worked hard to get this car in MW. We had it in the finale which is when it's pretty much useless (unless if a player plans to complete every challenges and races). and in carbon we only had it for a few minutes, and we can't get it in career at all. they should've just made it available after beating the first 3 bosses, and say that the player had enough money to get it fixed or something. it would be a perfect way to end the duology; the previous game's boss car vs the current game's boss

my theory about the m3 involves no limits since the m3 was in that with its own story basically in no limits the m3 was left im kim's yard(kim is basically the side character who your player character works for) with the message of if the m3 can get to the top of the blacklist for blackridge in one week (where no limits takes place) that the m3 is hers, is it isn't at the top it gets took back and kim decides to pass the challenge onto the no limits player character who manages to get it to the top and win the m3, which involves beating razor who confirms it is the same m3 from mw. this win gets the blacklist in blackridge removed to stop competition for highest rank on it. basically my theory is hat the no limits player heads to palm city for the speedhunters showdown and arrives either a similar time or before the player by a few months, manages to get into the league through the status of the m3 and the high speed task force "impound" the m3 and the player is either arrested for street racing, leaves town or gets a new car and continues on competing and then the heat events occur where the cars are recovered and the league gifts you the m3 to thank you for returning the cars

Personally I like the idea that the M3 was meticulously repaired and restored. The M3 E46 is much loved so I doubt smaller spares would've been too hard to find. Plus, it WAS gone 13 years... Plenty of time to find everything needed to bring the legend back.

i think that Mercer already knew about the car and sent some men to Palmont to go find it in so that he could have something he knew he definitely would need eventually: a getaway car. Mercer had no intention of selling the GTR, after all it's THE M3, and because it was that certain M3 he knew just how powerful it was.

The Player left Palmont City in 2002 to race in Olympic City in 2003, Was injured by Caleb, six months later arrived in Bayview in 2004,defeated Caleb, Then bought the BMW M3 GTR with the money he saved up from all his races,then upgraded the car, then went to Rockport where Razor messed with it then used it to become #1 on the Blacklist in which the Player with Mia's help, got his car back, escaped Rockport, then returned to Palmont City, the rest is history.

Hold on a second, because i think you missed something. The M3 GTR also appeared in the middle of campaign in NFS Heat where we were doing a research. Also in that mission Ana realized that her car was... probably sold and there we can see a M3 GTR blurred at the background, so sb used to drive it. Am I right?

One thing worth noting is the chop shop scene when you discover Mercers operation. You clearly see the m3 gtr in a wrecked state on the back of a truck. So it's most likely been totalled this whole time, located by mercer because it's such a rare car and he's made a business of selling cars like that. He's had it reconditioned at the chop shop and ready to be sent somewhere to a collector.

In Unbound, the M3 shows up again. And according to Yaz, the story is that some guy got out of prison, and the first thing he wanted was that car. No names were dropped, but the protag of Unbound says something like "I feel we're on the razor's edge by doing all these deliveries."

What if the Collector from Payback is behind it

I thank the police of palm city pickup the BMW M3 GTR from scrap yard and was rebuilding in the factory because we saw the BMW it was loaded on the truck where all Racer's car manufacturing i think the BMW m3 gtr wasn't use for 15 years and then mercer founded and decide to build it so he could sell it

I think that after the carbon story the M3 was sitting in the scrapyard and so the MW player bought it back and slowly rebuilt the car, staying in palmont city. But he wants a change of scenery and goes to Palm city where he gets into a chase and gets busted since he isn't what he used to be. He loses the car and Mercer knowing how valuable the car is gets it to the docks to export it. Then gets caught and the car ends up back in a scrap yard as it gets totaled again this time by Heat player.

MW2012 is the answer. The M3 GTR seemingly must have been restored, and resprayed, then exported to palm city, resprayed again, and then impounded by the police years later. And then there's the exporting to another area, and there's only one area in the same universe with no laws. Paradise City.

I thought the M3 came from Bayview sometime after the Underground 2 story and before the Most Wanted story and player moved to Rockport. Rog said in the beginning of the game "well look what the underground let loose. "Lets see how good you do in the daylight"

I would honestly love for this car to go back to its original owner. The player in NFSMW and Carbon. The man who single-handedly brought down the entire Blacklist to get his car back and become the Most Wanted street racer in all of United States.

I remember being slightly disappointed that they still never did quite get the exhaust note of that iconic V8 from the 2005 M3 GTR right in any of the future games where it has appeared : / At least the one from Palmont city is mostly accurate from every other angle - Centre lock wheels, side exit exhaust, closest looking livery to the OG car etc.

i think what would be a fitting end to m3GTR story would be if in the end credit they showed player masked getting the car back and for a final race to end the m3 story

Im suprised no one noticed this. After the event of Carbon the M3 GTR has lost something. And Its the *Gear whining sound* just listen to it in heat the Gear whining sound were small. If you remember in MW And Carbon the gear whining sound almost dominated 70% of the car sound while heat its only 20% which mean they do something on the transmission when fixing this car.

If I remember correctly If you listen to the announcer in Pro Street he says there's a blue car parked outside that's going to get towed away and the license plate says NFS CARBON. So Ryan Cooper abandoned the Supra and won prize money after Pro Street then bought/built the BMW then headed to Rockport.

Maybe Frank Mercer found it, and when he saw he decided to start stealing cars and selling them but he kept the M3 as a reminder of how this is all started

I just built my own BMW M3 GTR and now it's my car now

It was given to you as a gift in Need for Speed No Limits by the driver in NFS MW/Carbon.

My theory is the M3 GTR wasn’t really totalled. it was totalled for that time, but after that years it was possible to repair it, but it could be Cross, who took the M3 GTR. BCS Cross was real Bounty Hunter for that car, so he could take it to Rockport City to show the broken M3 GTR in hope getting his police job again.

I’m thinking it could be a mix of all three theories in the video. Darius lied to the most wanted that the m3 was a complete wreck The most wanted believed Darius and got the salvage value money for the m3 The m3 was crushed but it was still able to work Darius had someone fix the car (as much as it was able to be fixed)as a backup in case he lost his Leman’s Quattro When he was beaten by the most wanted he had someone appraise the car and got a value that was able to help him recover financially Darius told the person that appraised the car to not let the most wanted find out it was repaired and to sell it on the black market Over time the m3 was able to be fixed little by little until it was repaired completely When the m3 was repaired, it landed in the hands of Frank Mercer as he was making arrangements to have many cars sold overseas That’s my thoughts on what might’ve happened but I could be wrong on a few things

In the MW games, when you totaled your car in Drag Races you could continue on using it, leaving me to believe that the M3 GTR wasn't destroyed. In MW, when you totaled your car the would say "blow engine" which makes perfect sense on why the car is "totaled" as you can see the pipes went straight up to the hood where the engine was. On the other hand, the player I believed didn't went from Palmont straight to Rockport. I believed he went to Underground. There he gained his rep. To back up this, I'll quote on Rog. Rog is one of the people that help you in NFSMW alongside Mia. Rog said that the Player is involved in street racing in Underground. If I recalled it correctly, "Look at the Underground dude, let's see how good you do in the daylight." He may used the Money he got from racing there to acquire the BMW M3 GTR. Now for how Frank Mercer acquired it. There are also 3 scenarios that I think might have happened. 1. Frank Mercer is the MW player. This is likely because, in the MW games. The cars are the ones that have heat. When a car is stocked in the Safe house. It will loose a heat. Maybe the player, used other cars for racing and let the BMW loose heat. He then became a Police, just like Mia which is a undercover police. 2. The M3 GTR was abandoned. Remember how in Payback there are abandoned vehicles? This may happened to the M3 GTR. The player or the previous owner wasn't able to handle the heat and abandoned the car in Palm City. This is when Frank Mercer got the hold of it and saw the specs, just like how cross said that they would look "under the hood and check if its street legal" an took it for himself. 3. The MW player was arrested. After acquiring the control of the whole Palmont City. The player discovered his old car that lost heat and traveled. He then went to Palm City where he was arrested and took into custody.

The M3 GTR can never be totalled, that's the answer. If you know just how rare that car is, then you know that if there's even a single working part, she's worth fixing. There's no reason to think you can repair any car, no matter how wrecked, it just costs a ton of money if it's completely wrecked.

NFS MW2005 has the best story in the history of racing games

Going along with how the player (Ryan Cooper) acquired the car, it's most likely stolen. Assuming he wasn't able to earn much cash after leaving Palmont, and was most likely flat out broke. The car is a flat out race car, and not the limited run street legal model, so he most likely stole it at either some sort of show event, or even at a race track, as to how he did it? I cannot explain.

In one of the cutscenes when you discover the garage full of cars the m3 can be seen above of a truck full of dust dirt and crashed

I agree with the third theory, but the point is splitted like puzzles around. The legendary racer when left palmont city was with his Toyota Supra, and then comes back with M3 GTR. He would have come to search for the broken car to be repaired, but he already has Audi Le Mans Quattro. And when Darius left, he had a car of his own that goes as fast as it could, so he probably left the city. While the car was just left there untouched. If you see the cutsene carefully during the cross chase, you will see that the car did totaalled, but hardly damaged, he did save himself and the car by taking a massive drift and then applied a hard break in front of cross with no route to escape. He had no other option then to run because he thinks that no use of the car then himself. And there is a cutscene where darius gives an entry and helps the legendary racer, but when Nikki took him to choose one of a car to use, then BMW M3 GTR was no longer seen or heard and the messaged told was that it was totalled. What was the condition of the car no one knows, it was left to be taken over by any other racer as scrap till it was finally sold for a very high price. Audi Le Mans Quattro has a very good speed, plus he already conquered back the reputation and the lost money, so he only taught about the new car owned, reputation and his girlfriend who he had to leave and go.

I think this is where the need for speed developers need to make a movie explaining what happened to the legendary BMW M3 GTR or just come up clean and tell us what happened. As for me if the need for speed doesn't have cops its not worth playing and if it doesnt have the Iconic car its not worth playing. Race cars have special metal cage inside so for sure it wasn't totaled completely, ruff was for sure crashed, dpoiler, trank etc but possibly to restore even back then

I say after the car was so called totaled in carbon it was then when mercer impounded it and cept it since untill know in heat when he was on heat level and tried escaping with the m3 GTR but was taken out by another street racer But im glad the car is back cuase it was the car that made need for speed famous and its still my all time fav car ever !

The story of the M3 has some parallels to the Elder Wand from Harry Potter. This mythical, all-powerful car/wand, suposedly the best car/wand ever. But the car/wand keeps changing hands and ironically brings bad luck to whoever owns it.

Now I tell you what exactly happen the BMW M3 GTR when it was totaled by cross the car was sent to scrapyard and about 15 years it was just an accidental and abandoned vehicle. Because if someone was using player car for all these years he might change its number plate but still it has got same 2005 rockport nfs MW plate so its mean the car was abandoned for 14 years. Nobody uses this car since 2006 after NFS Carbon

I’m pretty sure the most wanted m3 was a rep of the gtr because I’m %99 sure that the gtr came out before they made the LCI tail lights, the seats aren’t the seats from a m3 gtr and the engine sound and redline are different from the gtr, the in game cars sound like they have the s54 in them but the m3 gtr has a v8 and the s54 is a straight 6

Nfs mostly got famous by this legendary m3 gtr. The car made the story so much interesting in 2005 game. Even tho there are a lot of iconic cars in nfs this is the legend of all

From the point of view of an insurance, a totaled car isn't always destroyed. Sometimes, the amount of money to repair the car exceeds the estimated value of it. Knowing this, I figured that the player (aka "most wanted driver") declared the M3 as 'totaled', because 1) he agreed with Darius that it would be better to 'start anew' in order to not stir up too much dust in the beginning and 2) because Darius wanted security for the money he spent on paying out Cross. In the end, the 'kid' left the car with Darius as he figured that this car was too hot to drive around in for him - probably not every bounty hunter got the memory that the MW had been bought out. Darius kept the beemer for a while, restoring the car. A few years later, he would sell the M3 to Cross, who lost his trusty Corvette in a nasty run-in with Razor, involving a reinforced semi truck. Cross had made himself reknown as a specialist in taking down fast fugitive offenders before that. In this role, he ends up in Palm City, around 2018, chasing after a race car thief that is wanted in several states. Little does he know that this last job he took before retiring would cause him that much grief. Instead of catching the thief, he gets arrested for illegal street racing and his beloved M3 impounded. It takes quite a bit of the money he saved for his retirement to bail him out, but he can't get his car back, as it is said to be crushed. He is contacted by some people who suspect there is something afoul with Mercer and his street racing policy. They are looking for a driver that could get into the system for them, as they all are known to Mercer. Cross remembers the - as far as he knows - original owner of his M3. YOU. The only one that ever managed to elude him.

My first nfs game was either hot pursuit 2 or underground 1.

Here's my own Senerio: Maybe it has returned and the original driver from most wanted got it back, but then the brakes fail and ran into the gas tank and the driver says his last words, Engine might be down, Paint might be scrapped, but as my final bow, i'll be gone for the burning scrapes and death over the race, so long forever. Then the car exploded and the real m3 gtr and the driver are gone forever

Interestingly noone is saying that M3 GTR could ONLY be stolen after a legit ALMS race since GTR was never "released" and the V8 inside it was only made for a racing version of car. That being said,only 10 cars were made street legal BUT Cross is doubting it at the beginning cutscene from MW if it is road legal and since M3 is already loud and has straight cut gears in it's sound it's very plausible that it's the racing version.

How about the nfs no limits bmw m3 gtr event. It shows that the owner of the m3 wanted to find another person to keep it. So they arranged a blacklist in no limits and then razor returns and gets defeated again. There 2 endings. -if you lose the owner find another person and repeats the cycle -if you win the event you get to keep it. Thanks for reading

i like to think the MW/Carbon player found the car after the events of Carbon and decided to take on the task of restoring it. of couse the origonal P60B40 that was in it couldn't have been fixed for replaced concidering it was a race engine only and you can't just buy parts for it or get a new long block so he got a M62/S62 V8 and modified it to be as close as possible(this explaines the red line and performance differeance between heat and MW/Carbon). After leaving Palmont city he traveled the country trying to find the same level of street racing he was used to in Palmont and Rock port and ended up in Palm city 18 years later when the Police had stopped activly looking for him. he would be eventually caught in a similer way to anna and arrested and thrown in jail for all his past chrims and the car "impounded" by the police untill Mercer would take the car and try and ecape in it thinking the car was what it was back in 2005 just to fins out it isn't as fast as it once was the hard way.

a notable mention, though obscure as it is, it that the M3 GTR shows up in a DLC pack for Most Wanted (2012). And while the lore and story of that game is... questionably non-cannon, it's noteworthy

My theory: in the mobile game NFS No Limits, there’s a story mode where you (a separate character living in the city of BlackRidge) are given the M3 by the most wanted racer with a note that says if you can climb the BlackRidge blacklist and beat Razor (yes he makes a reappearance, probably after serving jail time). I think the most wanted racer had enough fun with the M3 by the time he made it to Blackridge and decided to give it away to the No Limits player (you) so they can become the next most wanted, a way of passing the torch to the next generation. Throughout this special story mode, there are numerous references to the MW 2005 player and even Razor comments on seeing the car he once stole, saying he wants it back. If we consider No Limits to be separate canon from Heat, then this alternate timeline would see the M3 in the possession of the No Limits player. Until they pass it on...

Probably something like the player restored the GTR , using a E46 regular chassi but installing every part from the GTR , because if you see in the boot of the new GTR, it has the M3 logo that the original didnt have , in my thinking , then the player grabed the car and travel to Palm city and was busted

Canonically the player from Carbon at the very least went to Bayview and the events of underground 2 happened before he reach Rockport. This is confirmed from a few different interactions with Rog
