Tallarn was such a great book over a million tanks in literally the largest tank battle in all of imperial history against Perturabo the Lord of Iron himself “Drown this world in steel and draw out the Lord of Iron”

Would love to hear more about the Steel Legion of Armageddon. If I remember right their the only legion with a battle philosophy I can get behind. "See enemy, use tank. Enemy still breathing? Use more tank."

quick note. 7:25 these pictures would be of the Tallarn Raiders CENTURIES after. as during this actual conflict, the life eater was still active and they fought entirely in tanks and titans, as any hull breach would kill the crew, even space marines lasted for very short periods of time outside their sealed tanks. Space Marine? normal Human? all were made equal in this conflict as all relied entirely on the hull of their vehicle staying intact. a tiny pinprick hole could kill a crew and no one would be the wiser (one tank traveled miles with its convoy, only becoming suspect when convoy turned and it kept going straight. the crew had been dead for a while and no one knew)

Yup one of my favorite scenes from the novel was when a Imperial Fist hero rallied a bunch of Tallarns nd charged a squad of Iron Warrior Terminators these regular unaugmented humans faced down a legions Terminator elite simulationsly falling apart into literal toxic soup from all the deadly toxins they were exposed to still fighting till the very end and actually winning the engagement with all dying in the attempt it was glorious and tragic in equal measure.

@@wolflordgio6320 yeah! and that 1 human with the shotgun who was in the bunker originally. and no joke, the scene right before there of their convoy moving, with the singly Hydra firing at the incoming iron warriors, is why i got a Hydra tank. the sheer image of it firing defiantly knowing its done for hell for that matter, Lantern and Silence. 2 of my Lemans are named after those 2 and have the same weapons.

It's sad that these badasses aren't really featured much outside their book. Tallarn is one of my favorite regiments and I love their guerrilla hit-and-run tactics and extensive use of armored vehicles. The Iron Warriors desecrated the planet, but the people of Tallarn made them pay for it in the largest, and one of the greatest, tank battles in the history of the Imperium. Such badasses were, and still are, the Tallarn Desert Raiders. Plus they got some of the best uniforms in the Imperium.

My first exposition to tve Tallarn Raiders was, unsurprisingly, through a Ciaphas Cain's book where they didn't make the best of first impressions. But that was mostly their piety compared with Cain's more irreverent attitude and the poor choice of Comissar they had assigned to them. I loved how Cain handled the issue of the Tallarn's champion being knocked out by a -gasp- woman (!) That barely reached his chest. Still, they grew on me after that and I admit they are a very interesting regiment. I would love to see more, like the Valhallans or maybe some of the penal regiments like the Last Chancers.

My favourite imperial guard regiment. I love their lore, aesthetic and style of combat, so heavily inspired by the arab rebels/fremens from dune. I think my favourite part of their lore though is the fact that they fought alongside Biel-Tan against a common enemy and earned their friendship and respect. And if you know Biel-tan, you'll know that's a HUGE deal. This was a wonderful lore video and I can't wait to see more of these (fingers crossed for some craftworld lore). If you are focusing on the Astra Militarum, the Elysian Drop Troops can be really fun to cover I think.

Tallarn is basically the battle of Kursk just turned up to eleven, basically twelve……and I love it. Still would love to know the hard numbers of the Iron Warriors armor and artillery pool. I wager they’re both in the tens of thousands. Probably straight 10,000 for tanks and like 40-50,000 article pieces, those sound like iron warriors numbers.

How did a desolate agri world have enough tanks face the iron warriors. Sounds implausible to me. Also, why were the iron warriors, known for their acute strategic and tactical expertise, relegate a substantial amount of their armored forces to pacify a lifeless worthless desert of a world with minimal to no economic or strategic value.
