Desert Storm 101st ABN, I took a 7.62 round (glancing, thanks to heaven). The round entered my vest inside my top right breast pocket and completely shredded my SOI code book and notepad. Never knew I had been struck until my RTO noticed the pile of shredded paper all around me in our fighting position. The Kevlar saved my life.

i was issued a PASGT vest back in 2012 when i was going through basic training in the Canadian army. they only had size large and XL (maybe some XXLs). as one of the taller guys in my platoon i got an XL sized vest, it was large enough that i could layer both halves of the the vest front over each other.

I wore this in combat for the Panama Invasion of 1989-90. It was very hot wearing it when moving and shooting during the invasion because Panama is a tropical country. It was also difficult wearing the ALICE LBE and carrying the large ALICE pack. I solved this by making a chest sternum strap with 550 cord or parachute cord. The LBE would flop around when you are running or get into the prone position to fire. I did the same with the large ALICE pack shoulder straps by putting 550 cord so the shoulder straps won't come loose and fall off the sides. I wanted to center the shoulder straps to the center of my chest. We never left our rucksacks behind. We wore them during combat unless it was necessary to drop it in combat. We never did because all of our extra ammo, water, food, batteries, and night vision goggles were inside our packs. I was an M60 machinegunner so I carried mostly ammo for those sustained fire fights in the city. It was funny to see the SAW gunners suffer like I did. They carried more ammo than I did because of the lighter weight 5.56mm versus the 7.62mm I carried. I carried 1,200 rounds of 7.62mm. My assistant gunner carried the spare barrel with bag and tripod. His load of 7 magazines of 210 rounds of 5.56mm for his M16A2 and 1,000 rounds of spare 7.62mm. During the first days of that week. I fired close to 800 rounds to support my platoon taking down buildings where the Panama Defense Forces and their thugs firing out of windows. After the engagement my gun team were resupplied with ammo, water, and food as my unit moved from block to block in Panama City. That PSGAT body armor still on. I was pouring through with sweat. I went through water just as fast as I went through ammo. I will never forget that time ever.

I remember having to wear the PASGT vest in Basic Training back in 2004 at Ft. Sill. That thing is the exact opposite of breathable when compared to the IBA with plates. For reasons I cannot explain the PASGT would suck in humidity like it was it's job.
@RUBIZEN
@RUBIZEN 4 года назад
On Parris Island in '91 we were issued the OLD vests, the ones with nylon shells and armor plates in pockets. I don't know what their nomenclature is. The vests were so old they were falling apart. Every time I was around bushes I would rip out one or two of those plates (they looked like they were made of plastic or maybe kevlar) and pitch it into the forest. I always made sure the Drill Instructors weren't looking! The PASGT, in my opinion, was way better than the older model vests. Of course, everything is relevant. I'm sure the newest vests are better than the PASGT.

That’s an M1955 USMC armored vest the plates themselves are made out of Doron basically ballistic nylon that was superheated and compressed into a hard panel every Marine grunt was required to wear it in Vietnam Marines hated it but it saved the lives of the men who wore it those vests and plates are worth about 300$ brand new but I’ve seen surplus stores sell them for 50$ they’re a good vest even for today’s standards

As an Army veteran I ask...WHY is the military ALWAYS one step behind with matching up the camo pattern of the vest with the current uniform?..wars in .Iraq and Afghanistan start with troops wearing woodland camo vests with DCU top and bottoms.....then it's DCU camo vests with ACU top and bottom...then it's ACU vests with Multi Cam top and bottoms....what is so damn hard about having the troops wearing the same color vest as their uniform?...it's not rocket science you know.

It's "sticky foam" developed by Sandia National Laboratories. It was intended to be used by security personel at nuclear installations, but was also marketed to the military as a less-lethal crowd control weapon. Later on they also tried marketing it to police and prisons. Never really caught on due to several issues, namely how lethal it actually ended up being since the expanding foam would choke people if they fell over, and also because the weapon itself had a tendency to clog up with foam.
