I've always preferred the Hobbit over LOTR; the simplicity and more linear storytelling makes it much easier to read. Plus I can relate to Bilbo more than Frodo. Throughout Bilbo's adventure he constantly thinks about his hobbit-hole, smoking his pipe on the porch, eating and living a quiet simple life. Like Bilbo I'm on my own adventure (Army), but I'm ready to go home permanently and enjoy a quiet simple life again.

Yet like bilbo, when someone returns from the army they're not the same person as when they left

Nice review, Alex. Reading The Hobbit when I was twelve in 1975 is one of my most memorable literary experiences. The book was so popular back then that my local public library had a waiting list of people wanting to check it out, so a classmate, who introduced me to the book, suggested I start with LOTR instead. I read those three books starting that spring, and when the library finally called in August and said The Hobbit was available, I immediately ran down there and checked it out, rushed home and sat in the backyard on a perfect sunny day and read the book, losing myself in Tolkien's world. Eventually bought my own copies and reread many times. Take care!

Awesome review Alex! One of my favorite books. I need to do the Serkis audio though lol. Great Tolkien shelf too!

Agree about how great this book is…it’s a crime what they did to bloat it out into 3 movies instead of 1 tighter faithful one

Great review! I recall watching the animated adaptation as a young child, and then finally reading the book as a teenager. I fell in love with this book, and then with the LOTR trilogy. Tolkien's work remains my favorite to this day. Thanks for sharing your thoughts 😃

I kindly ask for your apology if I sound rude but a viewer I think you were lacking few things such as energy in your voice and body language, maintaining eye proper contact, and a bit of fidgeting which didn't gave the feel of listening to you. But I appreciate your review and your effort. Thanks for this video 🌹❤️

Great book! A great intro into Middle Earth lore! I actually read it after I had read LOTR many, many times! Not sure why all the hate for the movies out there! If they did not flesh it out, I'm not sure there was enough there for a whole full length feature film. Not saying there can't be some criticism, but I though they were pretty good overall. Be well, stay safe!

I have my issues with the movies for sure but you have a point. I think The Hobbit is actually pretty good though. I mostly dislike the odd choices of adding characters, including Legolas, and some of the CGI looking absurd.

Great review! I think 2023 is going to be the year for Lord of the Rings. I'll probably do The Hobbit in January.
