dont know if you guys cares but if you are bored like me during the covid times you can watch pretty much all the latest movies on instaflixxer. I've been binge watching with my girlfriend for the last few weeks xD
1:57 - 'like with any Jodorowsky film, there is no point in trying to explain it in terms of plot'. This has a simple plot, with a very clear 3-act structure. El Topo is pretty straightforward (well, as straightforward as cyclicality can be) plot to anyone with any knowledge of Christian and/or Buddhist symbolism, metaphysics etc. It's really a pretty basic story of ego, death and rebirth, and enlightenment. I hate when reviewers aren't equipped to understand a film (I read peter bradshaw's review and this was painfully the case with him) and all they have to say is 3freaky5me. Spirituality and symbolism must be a huge blind-spot for Kermode
Kermode, like most people who claim to understand movies, doesn’t know anything about cinema or tv, or storytelling. Every movie tells the same story of Holy Mountain. Any story actually share many similarities with this. Truth is, people love to mystify their movies and their directors. It’s the old necessity to worship, to oversell.
