I agree as well the AP1.5 is the perfect S2K. I own a 03 GWP AP1.5 it’s my favorite sports car.

What changes were made for the “.5”?

Agree with everything but the spoiler, I think the AP1 got the better spoiler. Just my opinion

How many inches were the wheels on the ap2?

I hate the clear reflectors on the AP1. The AP2 headlights do look better though, I agree with you on that.

F22C on the AP2 has better valve retainers too. It prevents the valves from dropping into the pistons.

AP2 with 9k rev limit sounds perfect. I got a 05 in North America, still love it.

When my son deployed to Afghanistan, he left his '01 S2K with me for safe keeping. Naturally, I had to drive it (wouldn't want the gasoline to go bad now, would I?) and was bitten by the S2K bug. I looked for months to find a low miles AP1 but the ones I saw were bought before I could get there or going for more than I wanted to spend. I found a bone-stock Laguna Blue AP2 in great shape and years later it still puts a smile on my face every time I drive it. But to the point: Which is the better car? I give the nod to the AP1. Both are tremendous automobiles that just beg to be driven hard. The fact that the AP1 makes its power at higher revs means that you are going to have to put your foot in in it a bit harder than the slightly more sedate AP2, and the suspension of the AP1 is oriented toward more aggressive driving, but isn't that what driving a sport car is about? Still, when I take my AP2 up into the mountains to wring it out, although it doesn't quite have the sport car feel (or the slightly rough edges) of the AP1, it is still a joy to drive.

@@gangsta_pigeon8023 For driving fun, I would choose the AP1. If I were to buy another S2K, I would probably look for a high miles AP1 with a clapped out engine and put in a K24, replace whatever driveline components need replaced, upgrade the suspension, and switch to 17-inch rims with Continental Extreme Contact or Bridgestone Potenza Sport tires. Sticky tires is the simplest and easiest upgrade you can do. I also think that extra wide tires and rolled fenders are ugly and don't enhance cornering. Most of the engine mods out there like intake kits and exhaust mods that advertise 5 or 10 percent more horsepower are a waste of money. And I would definitely avoid a car that has been super or turbo charged unless I knew for sure that I'm replacing the engine. It's a safe bet that the blower or turbo was not installed properly unless it was done by LHT Performance or another reliable shop. It's also a safe bet that a car with a blower or turbo has been abused. All that said, there is nothing wrong with leaving a stock S2K stock. Shigeru Uehara is a genius.

I have an 2006 ap2 and yes you're right after 2006 add onward you have the VSA

apologies for the ignorant question but if you have the AP2 transmission, do you still have to shift into 3rd gear for ~ 100 km/h ? I vaguely recall reviews in 2004 mentioning that due to gearing changes and the lower rev limit that the AP2 was slower 0-60 mph because where the AP1 could do 60 mph in 2nd gear, the AP2 had to shift into 3rd gear.

Jdm facelift is the best one imo. Better looks more stable more reliable and 10hp more

A different front bumper and mildly different rear bumper is "a mile" to you? It's literally one of the smallest cosmetic differences for a mid cycle refresh out there

I've driven both, own an AP2, both are great automobiles. Putting a little oil in from time to time isn't such a big deal.

@TS-mo6pn it's not just adding oil, blowby contributes to many other problems. It also indicates substandard design and/or QC. My Audi RS3 5 cyl runs 20 psi and uses zero
