The all new Honda Transalp 750 review. Is it any more than just a legionnaire cap- a simpler, sensible workhorse?

I was stuck choosing transalp or v85. Got an ex demo v85 with 1k miles for £9k. Shaft drive, cruise, huge tank range, v twin character, people have done 100k miles on them, amazing build quality, has soul, better electronics / more flexible off road. Tubeless tyres. No brainer for me.

Swapped my V85 in for a Desert X and miss it already. Yes the Desert X is a better bike in almost every aspect, apart from possibly the looks, yet the V85 has secured a place in my cold heart. I also would deffo choose the V85 over the Transalp 👍🏻

Regarding the v85 tt, due to the fact that the cylinders are sticking out of the frame, It feels much lighter then it is. It feels more like a 195 kg bike and have in mind that it has shaft drive.

@@thebikegeekandmore2448 The Guzzi has a higher centre of gravity because of cylinder placement so how does it feel lighter ? Do you mean when it’s moving, or a standstill ? Bikes with higher cog feel top heavy when stationary - try getting a Guzzi off the side stand compared to a similar weight air cooled Ducati V twin and you’ll see what I mean. Once moving, higher cog bikes feel lighter to turn all things being equal. Lower Cog bikes tend to have less rake to counter that effect.

Whenever Mr Dobbs says it needs ”minimal maintenance” I always wonder how he’s come to that conclusion. All bikes with engines need maintenance as the current trials of the bonneville should prove ^^. Great review of a very interesting bike. I’ve only sat on one in the showroom and while it’s incredibly comfortable for me I fear the tubes (and my riding habits) would lead me to the Vstrom 800 RE instead. Slightly better pricing and seven years warranty also helps.

Freddie, I am an owner of several classic Triumphs from the ‘70s. However, I haven’t bought a new bike since the mid 1990’s… and that was a Ducati 900ss which was by today’s standards, an old fashioned bike. I have been following your videos since I found you by chance reporting on a BSA Goldstar at the Goodwood Festival of speed a few years ago. However, the videos of the TransAlp in Yorkshire and Kent have persuaded me… I want one! Farnham Honda, will be seeing you soon. Thanks Freddie. Keep up the good work. I love the mix of videos.

Thank you for all Transalp content! I have Moto Guzzi V85TT and I think it is a superb bike, but also very different. Biggest difference is not weight, because V85TT has very low center of gravity. Biggest difference is chassis and suspension. Let me quote few words from Bike UK adventure bike mega test about V85TT: "its chassis is the highlight. Quietly sneaking into this gaggle of 21-inchers with its 19-inch front wheel, the V85 could never be called quick steering but rolls into turns with measured ease, surprising accuracy and pleasing road-holding. It's not sharp, but it's definitely fun. And the Guzzi's suspension is wonderful too. It's not just got the best ride quality of the bunch, but some of the best I've ever sampled." They rated V85 TT the second best middle sized adv bike, after Ducati Desert X saying: we’d take the Moto Guzzi V85 TT for long trips and huge miles - it’s got glorious comfort, surprisingly effective handling and flexible thrust, in a touchy-feely package that makes you smile. 1. Ducati Desert X 2. Moto Guzzi V85TT and Tiger 900 Rally Pro 4. Yamaha Tenere World Raid 5. Husqvarna Norden 901 6. Aprilia Tuareg 660

Great video as always with nice coffee break and the « pain au chocolat » :) yesterday while in the city there was a KTM 790 adventure parked on the pavement, it was one of those before 2023. It does not look too high to sit on and I read that the tank was going lower for ease of use. Maybe it would be another possible choice though a bit more expensive. Competition is huge in that segment.

Freddie, kudos to you and Monica for the stellar content. I've put 10k miles on my 2021 CRF300L Rally and love it. I commute with it and ride gravel and B-road. I do find myself wanting a bit more horsepower on the motorway. The Transalp is on my short list. Great video and review! I'm just taking my license lessons and test. And obviously I've spent endless hours considering my first bike (being 187 cm tall, old, with sore back and wanting to do longer trips, many of bikes are out of the question). At first, I was very keen on the NC750x. Then I discovered the MG VT85TT. And finally, the Transalp. Not sure if any of these would be a good beginners bike but it made me happy all of those actually are listed in this video (two of them in the top answers!) :). Plus, I'm still very much in love with the Transalp, although the VT with the prop and tubeless tires is right behind.. This is a tough choice. Thanks for the video!

Great film Freddie, but so far over the top it's got snow on it. It's a fine bike no doubt, but as you pointed out the lack of heated grips, centre stand (and cruise control) would be a concern. More subjectively, I prefer shaft-drive and for this reason the Moto Guzzi looks more attractive.

You left out that those of us in the Western Hemisphere not only miss out on this beautiful color as an option (even though I think I would prefer the black.. they may be right on that assumption), that our version is apparently 70 something horsepower, not the rest of the world's 90+! I don't understand that. I am hoping some of the woes with this bike get ironed out in subsequent models the next few years. At this time I'm pretty convinced it'll be my next/second bike. Much different than what I currently have but it's the next step I'd like to take in my riding journey. Great review, big fan. Mate I have a Moto Guzzi V85tt , taken it on loads of off road in Australia. It holds its weight down low . What makes the V85tt SO GOOD is 1. Big tank range 400km 2. Shaft drive - no chain maintenance 3. Simple air cooled engine 4. Cruise control 5. Comfort 6. Italian style Honda definitely has the reliability heritage ( in saying my V85tt hadn’t missed a beat . But the Transalp would be a better city bike ( due to traffic and being water-cooled ) . But I live in the country in Australia so prefer the V85tt for day rides and touring .

The Transalp has been on my radar since it's launch. It does click all the boxes : versatility, engine, cheap aftermarket parts/maintenance, low fuel consumption and Honda 5 yeras warranty. It would be interesting I think to know where the bike has its greatest and least values and perhaps your viewers could chime in on what their experiences with the bike or why it’s value is lower or higher in their country. I hope you get one for yourself Freddie! I am selling my Harley Forty Eight this spring. I also have a 2022 CB500X. I am considering selling both motorcycles to get a Transalp. The dilemma is that doubling the cost of my CB500X to the Transalp won't necessarily double the fun on the bike. But you sell the hell out of this bike Freddie!! What to do, what to do??

No doubt it's a great bike Freddie! But the VT88/tt is a real beauty and the only bike i've sat on that fits me perfectly and made me grin!! Love your style with this video!

Suzuki V-Strom 800, quite surprising, frankly, that you overlooked that one when evaluating the competition….

Very good video, as usual. Maybe compare it with the Suzuki Vstrom 800 DE or the KTM 790, or even with the upcoming Voge 900 DSX. Keep on the good work. Good rides from Portugal!

Like so many bikes, with my 36” inseam this bike is too cramped for my legs. They should change the design (works on all bikes) where the footpegs and shifter or brake pedal are together mounted on a small frame. This small frame is then bolted to the main frame, and with multiple mounting holes you can position it higher or lower dependent on what feels comfortable. Because the search for low seat height combined with large cornering angle means modern bikes have little legroom.

After many decades touring my answer to the question of which bike to travel the world on is the Honda C90, light, economical, possibly the most reliable motorcycle ever made, spares are easy in every country, maintenance is simple and it is quite comfortable to ride. Slow means relax and enjoy the trip..

The problem with the Trans Alp is its high seat. It's ok if you have long legs but it's too tall for many riders.

Great job Freddy. Even though we here in Canada only get the black, I quite like the look of it. Id always prefer a stealthy look opposed to bright colors.. just MO.. 😎

The Honda fitted Datatool tracker on my 2022 Goldwing left me stranded at the side of the road after just a few months. I had it removed, and a new battery fitted, and no issues since.

I like the engine note . I dont like the front mud guard . I think that the bike looks a bit dated but it is a Honda.I love Honda as a brand. I tried on a few months ago and didnt like just how heavey the bike is . I am only 5ft 7inch. 64 years of age and would struggle to move the bike with a full complement of luggage packed onto the bike .I have no doubt the the bike is a mile muncher Nice steam Freddie thanks 👍👍👍👍BTW at 14.29 and 15.08 mins into the stream even you looked to be struggling with the bike ????

Nice review. Your admiration of the Transalp is shared by me as well as the appreciation for the V85TT. However, another comparison (although not the proverbial "apples to apples") is again with Moto Guzzi. The new Stelvio. Either way the struggle for choice makes any buyer of these great "do-it-all" machines an ecstatic winner and reinforces the passion, and dedication the avid motorcyclist has to enjoying all aspects of the two wheeled experience. A Legionnaire Hat or a Cappola.

I can not believe freddy that you dont mention the suzuki vstrom 800. It is the closest competitor of the transalp in my opinion . The suzuki is better offroad and the engine has more power low and midrange , the honda has more in toprange. Both bikes are very capeble do it all bikes but you don,t buy them with your heart , but with your brain. Again a briliant vid , keep em comming

For when a review for short riders for this kind of motorcycle please? Mainly for filtering in London traffic. I would love to buy this bike but I'm 5'2 and I reach the floor with my tiptoes so no good for filtering/stopping on traffic lights in London traffic, and if in need of reversing would be impossible, to push back that weight, I like the hip to knee posture as I have hip issues, also I'm looking to buy something with that awesome suspension as I have back issues too😅 thank youuu

Coffee and cake after a ride in a deer park. Nice. Nice bike. I could live with a black one. My do everything bike. It is pretty hard to beat. The GS. This is a lot more budget friendly.

Maybe we don't get the White colorway or adventure/rally packs.. But, we do get a free quick shifter on the black version.. Aftermarket parts for fig lights, crash bars, skid plates, are many.. Almost too many lol.. One thing is your does get a few extra pony's probably for emissions standards.. Also The Aprilia Tuareg 660 will beat the Transalp in everything but reliability, parts, and dealer network

Mixed feelings here Freddie! It looks very similar to the cb 500x and both the transalp and the CB are great bikes except one is around £6 -7 000 and the other £10,000+ It's not a head turner it's not going to make you feel anything in my view but it does seem to do most things very well!
