@@JohnCedar To be completely fair to the man, you need to start somewhere when talking the brain, and he was one of the first medical specialists to attribute certain problems with the body (either real problems or things that society perceived as problems) to processes in the psyche/brain. Of course his ideas about how those problems are caused are hilariously out of touch and should only be used as a very simplistic explanation of the brain at best, but even the complete quack he sold opened the door to a better understanding of how the brain can both seriously enhance and mess up your body at the same time. Also, his theory of id, ego and super-ego might not be accurate, but it does a decent job of explaining the basic concept of subconscious thinking that lies at the basic of placebo effects and other wacky stuff.
