I remember using this in middle school and there were so many creeps

In the first group chat I joined on kik, there was a group of teenagers on there that I talked to who noticed I was just a little kid. So they told me to get off the app and delete it as fast as I could because i was too young and there are dangerous people i didn’t need to know about yet. I am so glad they did because knowing my little gullible self, I was a very easy target for online creeps. i just want to thank them wherever they are for helping me :(

Funny how as a kid we were all yelled at for the conversations we had on kik but the adults we talked to were never held accountable and the idea and understanding of grooming didn’t exist.

I'm so thankful that I was never allowed to use Kik. I remember years ago when a family friend of mine, naive to grooming at the time, sent a picture of her house to the person she was messaging on Kik, and then the person actually drove over to her house (I think?). Thankfully she's safe now, but I bet it was extremely scary for her and her family. I don't always agree with my mom on everything, but I am so thankful she had that conversation about online grooming with me and that she never let me have Kik.

BIGGEST red flag feature of kik is how the chats are not saved after logging out. chats expire and totally cease to exist. its like the app was made for shady activity

I literally almost got trafficked on Kik. I vividly remember talking to this guy when I was like 15/16. I don't remember how old he was or specifics but I remember him telling me how much money I could make, how fun it would be, how much I could travel. Looking back now, I am in utter shock and awe.

As a victim of multiple kik predators, I can attest that this shit was scary. And I’m sure all my private pictures are on the deep web or some creepy old man’s computer…and that scares me…I was very young and very naive as I grew up with mental health disorders and thought what was going on was okay at first. Between the ages of 13-15 I was in multiple ddlg, furry, and even bdsm groups. This was a very scary thing looking back on it as I remember one person in particular that tried to lure me out of my home and to a local mall…my mom still doesn’t know to this day. I’m fact I’ve only very recently mentioned what happened to my boyfriend. Only very briefly without details…please keep your children OFF OF THIS APP ITS DANGEROUS

As someone who was groomed on Kik at a very very young age, I’m glad more people are exposing just how corrupted the place has been for years

Even in its prime, Kik was so sketchy and I hated using it, which sucked because most people my age didn’t really have any other type of communications besides Kik; so this made me feel mandatory to download it to keep in contact with friends/family. I have so many creepy stories and flat out disturbing things that have happened on that app + screenshots that I’ve kept in a folder ‘till this day. From stalkers, to grooming, to those creepy ass bots lol. I wish I deleted it when I had the chance; could’ve saved myself from so much stress and trauma smh.

I grew up in Kik’s golden era and it was… specific. I got no new friends from it but it was funny how joining kik came with this whole learning curb of “yeah now you just gotta learn to identify predators and spam accounts”. The app was nice cause you could send emojis back in the day and you were able to send pics without costing, but the app was weird and always made me uncomfortable. However when you’re not too popular but in the group and your whole group doesn’t want to use any other form of communication… yeah you end up putting yourself in that situation. Thank the GODS that the app is so forgotten about by now

When Kik used to be popular all kinds of fucked things happened. Cp grooming cyber bullying. I think one of the most horrifying things I witnessed tho was one time one girl was forced to carve with a knife the name of her groomer on her arm. If she refused he said he would dox her and disturb her nudes she was a minor I think not even up to 14

I am now 24 years old but I think about all the time how someone somewhere has pictures of me as a child and I feel ashamed. Glad this is being talked about on a more serious level since it’s more joked on social media about “cat fishing older men” to cover some fear or shame they most likely have.

I remember using kik in middle school at the one of the lowest points in my life. god, that app was such a nightmare. i was a victim of grooming in 2014-2015, so i was 11-12 years old. at the time i didn't realize how messed up it all was because i had been manipulated into thinking it was normal and that it was a game, i was never given a talk on internet safety nor did i know about predators and CP until it was too late. im 20 years old now, and as an adult its horrifying to think about and its such a haunting experience of mine. im glad that this is being brought to attention more and im hoping internet safety, especially for children, gets better and more efficient in the years to come.

I used Kik as a kid. When you mentioned how predators use the depression tags and groups to prey on vulnerable kids, it hit me hard.

I think I want to cry at how many memories this brought up. I was groomed using Omegle and Kik back in middle school and high school. It started out with using Omegle to meet “friends” and eventually they’d ask for my kik to keep in touch. It was fun at first, talking to people and I thought I was clever by using a name that wasn’t my real name. I felt cool talking to older people and then they made me feel liked. I was sending photos and eventually sending bad photos. My parents were fighting and didn’t pay attention to me. I was depressed and suicidal and the predators used that. I got exposed to BDSM elements at a young age and became a “slave” where I’d send bad photos and videos when they would ask. One time I even had a Skype relationship. This went on for years and I went through many ‘relationships’ with ‘men and women’. Who knows where my images are now. To this day it affects my love life and relationships. I feel so used and dirty. This year I spent some time in a mental hospital getting help for this and many other issues I’ve gone through. Kik is digesting and I hate that it’s still active.

When I was 11, I used Kik all the time. I did undertale role-playing and just wanted to have fun. I was groomed for years by multiple men who found me there, and I never considered it bad. I hated my body and always liked the attention, I normalized being exploited and sending inappropriate pictures of myself. I'm near 16 now. I never told anyone what I let happen to me for 3 years. I'm ashamed by my younger selves actions, and now more than ever I'm secretive about my body and always dress modestly due to my shame. I can confirm 100% Kik has CP. I was once in a group chat with some random internet people I used to chat with when I was 12. We were roasting this one dude hard for being a creep and his response was to spam our group with CP. Like, literal babies. It traumatized me so much I never used the app again. I never reported it and sadly wish I knew to do more at the time.

When that first notification popped up in the video I actually felt the repressed fear from my early teens in my heart, Kik is literally the most toxic place and it still gives me the shivers. I was sent CP and had to go to the police at least twice because of it

I was young and thought he was attractive, so I sent them. I would never be able to actually identify his name again, just know his first name was Noah

When Kik was sold it was written in the TOS that they would be in close ties with law enforcement and that they will investigate on their own accord. So to this day Kik is still used by law enforcement to catch these predators. That's a good thing at least.

I remember Kik years ago, back in 2014 when I was a middleschooler. There were Dark Web chats which bots would invite you to and they were always full of terrible shit. Snuff, gore, cp, drugs, groomers, etc. I remember getting added to a group when I was 14; it was run by a buncha dudes in their 20-30's and it was meant to "love your body no matter what, no shame". My insecure dumbass self fell for the grooming and sent lewd photos thinking people actually enjoyed me and so on. That app is evil, nothing but pedophiles and sex bots since the day it started.

When I was on Kik as a teen I thought being a guy meant I was safe. Boy was I wrong, I learned really quick that pedophiles will pretend to be a girl your age to try and coerce you into sending pictures of yourself and revealing details about your life. Unfortunately my friend got it way worse, but the police helped her and me. Thank you for using your influence to reveal just how dangerous this app is. I tell every parent to block the app from their child’s phone.

I started using Kik in 2011 and it was popular then too. It was a breeding ground for predators even in the early days because you could basically be anonymous and catfish easily. I was groomed and/or catfished so many times and my underaged pictures are probably still out there. I have a daughter of my own now and it’s terrifying.

Kik is infamous for two things: grooming and its ED chats. Sometimes they went together.

I remember encountering a super creepy guy masquerading as a girl on Kik once. I remember friending him on PS4 and talking to him in a party. Immediately I felt uncomfortable so I told him I was a minor (16 at the time, I think). He said, in his exact words, "it's ok, I like them young." I IMMEDIATELY left the party, blocked him on PS4 and exposed him in the group I was in with him, and thankfully they removed him. Ever since that day, I never reinstalled Kik because I genuinely get shivers down my spine remembering that guy

I remember when I was 8 in 2013, and I really enjoyed playing minecraft on my tablet. I'd meet lots of people in multiplayer servers, and sometimes I had what I thought were good conversations with these people, before they'd ask for my kik. This went on from 2013 to 2016 when I played on public servers and ran into countless people trying to corner me into downloading kik so we can, "keep talking," and such. I never did, and I'm happy I didn't.

10 years later and I now know where all my problems came from. I never stopped to consider the damage these predators had on my mental development and view of myself and sex, I initially went on there after I moved away from all my friends and had trauma and nobody to talk to because a friend I moved away from used it to keep in touch because they didn't have a cell phone yet, cuz we were in middle school and only had ipods at the time. Now when I look back and think about series of events that have lead to where I am mentally, it all makes sense. I didn't even realize this time in my life was slowly destroying me

I myself am a victim of grooming on kik, I was 10-12. I’m almost 21 now and I still get nightmares and still have trauma from what happened. These groomers are smart and they knew exactly what to do. There was one feature at the time that let you set up your profile on a secondary site that would basically let any stranger message you based on common interests. I would use that and I'd get messages from men as old as 40. Admittedly it got to a point where I'd seek this sort of thing out because I was an insecure teenage girl and I'd started placing my self worth on the "compliments" these men were giving. Not proud of that but I didn't know better. Yeah Kik definitely isn't for kids

Me and all of my friends were on Kik over 10 years ago when we were about 13. I'm not exaggerating when I say that every single one of my friends (myself included) was groomed at some time or another on Kik. And you're absolutely right about these creeps picking on kids with mental health issues. I was groomed on Kik and the funny thing is I was the one who got in trouble for it. My mother turned my phone into the school police where I would have super scary meetings of this officer basically yelling at me to tell him who the people are, I didn't have an answer so he would just get more upset. My mother decided it was good punishment to write that i was talking inappropriately online to people with a phone my mom bought on a sign and made me hold it in front of my school before it started; kids, parents, strangers, friends were laughing and taking pictures of me. My mother just stood next to me laughing while I had a panic attack and was deliriously crying. There was only one person while I stood there who just looked at me so sad and told me he was sorry, then his wife smacked his chest and told him he was wrong. I Think that guy was one of the reasons I didn't take all those pills. I couldn't wear the same clothes to school anymore and for weeks people would constantly come up and ask me about it making it a constant reminder. She has never said sorry for it, and I'm not sure if she ever will. I don't think she thinks what she did was wrong, but it caused so many problems for me and so many bad feelings i've never been able to let it go. It bothers me that I was the one at fault when I had been manipulated into so much. Honestly this app should be deleted, from my memory included please.

This video hit me in a way it shouldn’t of. I had kik back around 2012 when I was in middle school. I had gotten it because I didn’t have a phone, and had just moved away from all my friends but wanted to talk to them from my tablet I did have. I specifically remember kik having mini “apps” inside their own. It would be an “app” where you posted a picture of yourself or your profile picture to get people to talk to you. Being lonely in a new town and dealing with domestic abuse, I used it all when I was 11-12 years old. The amount of older guys and grown MEN trying to message me and my friends while sending us explicit pictures was disgusting. I remember being about 12-13 and a random guy messaged me one night from one of those apps and threatened to find me and KIDNAP me because he “had my IP address” if I didn’t send him pictures absolutely terrified me. I had no idea if he was being serious or not and couldn’t tell my parents as they didn’t even know I had the app. I deleted kik right then and there.

I was groomed SO badly on this app and I never even realized until much later. I was sent explicit videos and pictures as well and even tricked into sending something back. If I could heal my younger self from something, it would be this. I was between 11 and 15.

I was in middle school and I had (have but am recovering) an eating disorder, I had made an online friend who told me about this eating disorder support chat and I joined... it was supporting the disorder itself and it was an absolute nightmare. Body checks and degradation to make you believe this is what you have to do to be someone. The body checks weren't clothed. I was coerced into sending it and if I ever said I wanted to stop I'd get a message with my mom's social media and email and I didn't want her to know. Turns out the person was a full grown man. I still get so scared ill open my phone and see those pictures floating around almost 7 years later. Let this be a precautionary tale to everyone not to let that happen to you or anyone you know

I had this app in 6th grade to talk to my best friend at school. I deleted the app after a bit bc we got bored of the platform and just used regular texting. I’m sure glad I got off the app before anything weird or creepy happened.

When I was 12, I was going through a hard time due to my toxic household, caused by a step parent at the time. I felt so isolated from friends and family, and so I turned to people on social media, and that’s when I found Kik. At first it was nice talking to strangers that didn’t know me and couldn’t use any judgement. But I was a young, naive kid who didn’t know the ins and outs of internet safety. These adult men manipulated me into sending them CP (of myself) by using my situation as a threat. I’m 23 now and I feel so disgusted with myself. Please if you let your kids on the internet fucking teach them internet safety, and monitor their activity until they’re old enough to know better.

I was in Elementary School and I used it to keep in touch with my friends and I have some horrible memories of grooming and creeps. They used to have a feature where you could connect to a complete random person without the interest tags and just chat with them. Shits crazy.
