In the world of movies, January is a month typically reserved for the box office bombs and the latest horror franchise reboot. This year, Netflix is upsetting that trend with their impressive stop motion anthology film, The House.
The House is delightfully weird. It's also creepy and uncanny, tapping into an uneasy nerve. In my view, it has many attributes of the films of David Lynch and thus I've described it as being "Lynchian."
If you haven't yet seen Netflix's The House, I highly recommend it! Although we're only a few weeks in, I think The House has a legitimate shot at cracking my top ten list for 2022!
The House was written by Edna Walsh and directed by Paloma Baeza, Emma De Swaef, Niki Lindroth von Bahr and Marc Jacobs Roels.
The House also boasts some major vocal starpower, including but certaintly not limited to Helena Bonham-Carter, Mia Goth, Will Sharpe and Paul Kaye.

As someone who's flipped a couple of houses, I couldn't help but connect with the 2nd story even if it's probably the darkest and most depressing of the 3, and partially with Rosa's plight for nostalgic refurbishment. It's easy to become oddly connected to a property when working on it.

My husband and I watched this right after buying our current house… The previous owners had refused to leave the day we were suppose to get the keys, left it trashed, and we kept finding broken things, bad repair jobs, etc… So watching this hit us a little hard. Lol.

In all honesty, I haven’t felt weirded out in the best way possible by a stop-motion since Coraline, or that one segment from ABC’s Of Death. But this was great! Definitely keep it up! ((:

I just wanna say, although the animation all throughout is stunning, Rosa's vignette is absolutely gorgeous. It's incredible how such subtle moments and facial expressions are done so well in stop motion.

Really loved your analysis, I love stop motion and I think its so good that the film kept a consistent theme throught since I know some anthologys loose the thread between storys. Yeah I hope more people can find this one.
