thanks Sonja for your Research ! :-) ... "Happy People Have Projects" I am trying to convert an Act from all that learning you've shared ... and that it I now am trying this strategy to overcome my procrastination ... create a Virtuous Cycle ... Aim (Project), Act, Feel Good ... slightly bigger Aim (Project) .... slightly Bigger Aim ... etc .. Building Up that Strength (Reserves) to do more

Nice talks. I wish she could speak more about how to feel happiness although she introduced it a bit.

The How of Happiness. is very good on implementing gratitude activities, interesting to see the latest research on this.

If the How of Happiness is known then what is stopping humanity from using that instrument ? Something is amiss.

@@sleepsmartsmashstress740 Again, read the book before you opine. This makes you sound like Homer Simpson, not that there's anything wrong with that.

This could have been a much better video if the visual aids/slides were on-screen for longer than just 2-3 seconds. Pretty hard to appreciate any of the lists or graphs. Why didn't the video editors keep them up longer? Why do we need to see the speaker talking for 95% of the video when it's apparent that the event audience got to see & digest her research visually presented??? This just became annoying throughout watching the video...the anxiety that you would miss the visual aids on happiness.

Point well made. The videographer is novice. But if you want to study the slides then pause and do so and better yet do a screen capture and save the slides as graphic files in JPEG files. But in the end elevation of happiness level has and will keep evading humans. My conclusion is it takes a brutal level of honesty to be authentically happy e.g. monks Cheating ruins happiness. Humans cheat compulsively and habitually.

All evidence of psychology and esp happiness sits on pretty shaky ground. It is all speculations.

The biggest trouble about science of happiness is that like sorrow, it is an artificial construct not a concrete or tangible one. It is an interpretation that mind makes by pattern recognition and that is socially conditioned learned reflexes or Jungian Affective Conditionings Operant Biases (JACOBS). Smokers cherish and savor cigarettes and derive immense pleasure while I would find it bitter pungent and repulsive. Many others dislike alcoholic beverages while I do like a glass of red wine with my dinner. Initially I was unable to handle beer. It took a while to develop the taste. In the same manner humans train themselves or society trains them what should or would make them happy or sad. It is all artefactual and studying artefactual elements would prove very tricky when subjected to scientific rigor. That is why most studies on happiness produce inconsistent results.

I would argue that because happiness is subjective it is actually easier to measure. It is impossible for a researcher to determine if a person in a neutral state is generally happy or generally miserable. However, that person can quickly determine their mood and their general well-being. I don’t think society teaches us how to be happy, either. Society teaches us how to do things that are self-serving, but these things almost never lead to happiness. Happiness: Unlocking the Mysteries of Psychological Wealth by Ed Diener is a pretty good book on the science of happiness. I do agree that the field has a long way to go, but it’s pretty interesting stuff nonetheless!

With respect Dr. Lyubomisky, in light of the impression that one gets that life satisfaction or happiness level is taking pretty much a nose dive with a dark horizon from climate change, global conflicts etc., it can be confidently stated that the work of the happiness researcher is not helping humans elevate the level of their happiness or life satisfaction.

Not true. Problems don’t harm happy people and they are the ones who solve the problems
@sleepsmartsmashstress740
@sleepsmartsmashstress740 2 года назад
@@lynnjohnson2371 But the happy people dont have Problems, only OPPORTUNITIES. Actually they are happy because they dont have serious disadvantages or have solved them. Chicken and egg story no one can be sure what came first.

Art of bullying has advanced a lot to be curbed. We have well funded organized terrorist groups and drug cartels that bully the biggest governments in the world. They have more sophisticate weaponry than most governments in the world.

Sonja, You need to slow down your speech and thus disengage from your ego. This will make your presentation much more effective and useful.
