Assassin's Creed is a very long and storied franchise. When it comes to a game series this big, you're going to have some different takes, styles and design choices that don't always resonate with people. That said, when it comes to climbing in Assassin's Creed, there's really no consistency or recognizable pattern to the changes that Ubisoft makes to this series. AC cant innovate on anything cuz they always replace things. Innovate the counter kill combat? No, change it. Innovate the ac unity climbing? No, scrap it. Its infuriating

theyre very similar to how sega handles sonic the hedgehog. strong foundations, but they are always short-lived and replaced in favor of scraping it under the rug. when it just leaves them with more work. its like redoing the whole assignment when you got an 80. yea there was mistakes, but it was nearly flawless.

That's why some fans are hopefully with Red's Anvil engine. From the leaks it seems like the engine only gets build up and build up upon, not scrapping features.

I still think Watch Dogs could have been as big as this series if they had bothered to market it well and commit to a style or direction.

my favorite era was the Ezio series. the mechanics, the environment, the music, and the underrated castle defense in Revelations were amazing imo

I've played the series from 1 to origins and i appreciate everything single one for what they are, but what make me drop up was the inconsistency of it all

I think they need to bring a "semi auto" type of climbing and running. At the same time, they need to design their map in "blocks," like AC1, to AC3. Unity parkour, for example, looked amazing but was too automated, and the building had a lot of contours that didn't have block type design. So parkour could break up and feel clunky. In a semi automated system, you can have that old school parkour (you can still have Unities diagonal climbing), but also have prompts for reachable ledges were if you're fast enough to react, you can activate to have an automated animation were your character jumps to reach for it. Think of it like the circle prompts you get on edges with the new spider man games were you zip web too but obviously in the context of an AC game it's for ledges and edges that are reachable or you can jump too.

My favourite climbing system is the Assassins Creed 3 Black Flag and Rogue climbing system. It had the right amount of automation and manual control and had extremely realistic and stylish animations. I liked the tree climbing and the house animations. They added some unique flow to the game.

It’s like Ubisoft thinks that the playerbase just has really short key waving ADHD attention spans so after a couple of games that had a certain type of gameplay mechanic & or narrative direction they completely scrap it & go back to the drawing board for their next game completely pivoting from the ground up out fear that they’ll lose their audience’s interest in all of their products. But more often than not the drastic polar extreme opposite changes are now what’s driving their playerbase’s away from their products. Due to the fact that rapid changes indicates that Ubisoft has *NO FAITH* in their own studios ability to properly innovate on their products long term & doesn’t have any real idea of what they’re doing especially with their long term visions for any of their given IP’s. 😒

Facts theyll rather make a new game every year or 2 and utilize micro transations than to figure out what makes games like GTA 5 and Red Dead be able to be played for nearly 7-10yrs and still be relevant... its trusting your product and providing something that will last forever but also not scrapping all the things that made your game what it was, but actually expanding on the idea so much that core and new players connect and could go back to the past and still feel the same way

What it is more than anything else is the engine that they build their games in. Every single Ubisoft game that has been released in the past few years has been built using the exact same engine/ tools assets and animations. the only thing they change is the visual aspect of the games. Honestly if I were in charge of the company I’d probably start sending certain original IPs to other dev companies (like insomniac for example) and just make a collaborative game using new engines and ideas to reinvent the franchises and make sure they feel fresh and new but also true to it’s name.

I personally loved the AC3 climbing, and also the art style of back then was my favorite... It was still a realistic art style, but it wasn't trying to be ultra 4K HD with raytracing and Peachfuzz lighting, no, it was a simple, yet realistic, art style, that still kinda holds up in some aspects today... Also, the climbing and combat were really fun and engaging from memory... But then again... I haven't played it in uears, since my PS3 broke...

This is like if Insomniac decided to change the swinging mechanics for the Spider-Man video games after every game. The obviously better way to go is to optimise the system and make tweaks and additions where you can.

I played the Ezio collection for the first time like 6 months ago and they truly never made better parkour mechanics than then. My first ac game where black flag and unity I got the Xbox one bundle with those as a bundle what a time to be alive! But the Ezio games are top tier story wise too and this isn’t nostalgia cause again I only played them 6 months ago

I think ac unity parkour refined so we can have tombs like ac2 to revelations would be the perfect system. I hate origins to Valhalla system. It’s has no depth at all.

ACI had the best climbing but I understand why they sped it up. It was just nice having those little climbing puzzles.

Each style has good elements. But they needed to refine and evolve it. Its so simple and straightforward. New features are good. 1-4 had really good. Unity is epic. But again, what happens is we ditched many things along the way. Compare it to Batman and its traversal mechanics. There's a clear evolution. Theres progression. Ubisoft is pulling a Nintendo with pokemon. New stuff toss out the old. Its not working much with those games either. But pokemon has too many fans and doesnt just rely on the games for money so they can afford it. Assassin's creed is trying the same thing.

Unity climbing is as good as you are at the game. It actually has a skill gap, this is why unity parkour videos are so popular, it is very satisfying when you finally get good at it

@@volpeisfox it looks cool but there's no depth to it. It unpredictable one minute Arno does a small jump the next he makes a completely different jump. Altair and Ezio had predictable jumps, you knew what gaps they can make and ones they couldn't.

Assassins creed needs to leave the RPG element alone for one.... make the game with AC3 fighting mechanics but enhanced, AC2's style of direction in control and AC Unity level of parkour and really learn how to better build the world around the player. Too much unnecessary NPCs who play no value to your characters advancement or decline. We need a AI system that acknowledges the playes actions... NPC's you can get information about your targets and their whereabouts or movements, Templars who may be on the search for you, police with better AI and detection methods. finally bring back actual climbing puzzles like in AC2 - Revelations. with those changes i think they would have a solid game especially with a good story to go with it

From 1 to Revelations it was really bad, altough Revelations added the hookblade which was really nice. From III to Rogue it was the best and from Unity to Syndicate it was really good. Everything after them are trash.
