The Hunchback of Notre Dame 1977 PART 1 

The medieval illustrations and music in the beginning giving off the medieval feeling, gets me every time.

I recently watched Michelle Newell in the 1976 teleplay "Brimstone and Treacle". So I wanted to see this version of "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" since Michelle Newell is in it. This version of the story is very dark and interesting. I could not believe the ending where two of the main characters have just been killed yet people are just singing and dancing near them like nothing is amiss. Dark obsessions, unrequited love, and misunderstandings lead to tragic endings in this classic tale.

I thought I knew every Movie of this Story. Now I know oh Better. I will watch it tomorrow when I have wlan. I'm pretty excited how this is made.

I wouldn't call them "remakes", rather "various adaptations of Victor Hugo's novel".

thank god its faithful. i've not read all of the book, only parts of the end , but i know in short whats happens and i get anoyed when films aren't faithful to the original story. so i think i'll enjoy this version^^

I think this is the only version I've seen where the Pope of Fools has not been changed to "King." Interesting.

@rhiangivan Apparently it was based on a legend, but in 2010 a British researcher found evidence that there was a man with a hunched back who was a calver at Notre Dame. Apparently he and Victor Hugo (who wrote the book) could have even known each other.

I read it. It is preety good.

Don't know why, I decided to look at as many versions I could, so thank you for uploading =D Also, I wonder at which point Victor Hugo is famous in the world ? 'Cause I'm French and here it's quite THE author that ANYONE know by name even if they never read a damn page.

@FlippinBooks That's one of my goals too. I did want to review them as well like the PhantomReviewer, but I don't know how to edit which is a shame, I could so easily do a script for it. Still, I've seen about five versions so far. :)

1982 version was interesting Disney was the greatest Hugo adaption in history Lon Chaney version was dull and boring, Charles Laughton version was fine this 7/10
