I like the explanation the director or whoever said as to why Quasi was friend zoned. Frollo saw Esmerelda as a demon, Quasi saw her as an angel, Phoebus just saw Esmerelda
the nerd of many fandoms I thought the same too. I was so angry that Esmeralda friend zoned poor Quasimodo when I first saw the movie as a kid. I was all, "Well if she doesn't want to love him, then forget her! I'll love him!" Lol.
Practical Folks As Quasimodo does here, time flies. p.s. I'm on a drunk disney marathon since I'm in bed sick (here in Italy it's 9.30 a.m.) so I'm just rewatching everyone of them. I discovered I know most of your line by heart. oooooooops awkward....
Practical Folks So there is a point in the video where Chelsea says "That guy sounds like Patrick, and I'm not convinced that it's not" So I did some quick research and discovered that the guy that does the voice of Patrick Star is named Bill Fagerbakke. As it turns out Chelsea was right, Bill Fagerbakke actually voiced Oafish Guard. 🙂
"Why don't we take all the gypsies, and MOVE THEM TO ENGLAND." Haha you guys are hilarious. XD (seriously though, ever since I realized that that was Patrick, it's become SO distracting whenever I watch the movie haha)
Here's something I bet you never expected to read: Bill Fagerbakke "has received critical acclaim as a thespian by the Screen Actors Guild and Juilliard School of Performing Arts for his roles as Shylock in Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice, and Torvald in Ibsen's A Doll's House."
You guys were right to think that one soldier sounds like Patrick from "Spongebob", because he is voiced by Bill Faggerbakke, who did both Patrick's voice and that soldier. As for Tony Jay, Frollo's voice, he's also the narrator in the book Jim reads at the beginning of "Treasure Planet", along with one of the villains in the "Mighty Ducks" TV show. Also, Jerry the Gypsy needs his own spin-off series.
Chris P "I'm here to help!"Thanks for all that Disney trivia, Chris. That's good stuff. A few people have told us it was Patrick's voice actor, but nobody dropped his name like you. Looks like you took Googling one step further than the rest!
I used to watch this movie every day for a year when I was 12 (I was a pretty dark kid) and I HATED THAT GUY. Not because he was a bad guy, but his doofy voice. Along with the ugly kids, and the awful CGI crowds. Surprisingly I was okay with the gargoyles.
In the book Frollo was actually a decent guy (before going after Esmeralda) and adopted Quasi willingly. And Pheobus was a jerk, messing with Esmereldas feelings while being engaged to another woman. And Frollo stabs Pheobus lol
Yes, in the book he definitively is written as being deaf. Disney potentially missed out on having a handicapped protagonist. I'm half deaf myself, and I never grew up with a hero/heroine that I could really identify myself with in that aspect.
*coughs* removed Hawkeye's hoh status and missed another hero *cough* :) Seriously, though. the amount of people that would identify with these characters, and they are in the reference material... I don't understand the appeal of removing these aspects.
+AtarahDerek INDEED! I was over the moon when I heard him say his name right! By the way, and as you know, I made my own Pokemon fanfic where one of my characters was named for Clopin. Here it is. Please read all the chapters, and if you have any questions about it, feel free to ask. Enjoy! m.fanfiction.net/s/11855283/1/
+AtarahDerek And with that being said, to quote the film: Here is a riddle to guess if you can Sing the bells of Notre Dame: WHY IS PAUL KANDEL SO UNDERAPPRECIATED?!?! He lost out on a Tony in '93, hasn't been nominated since, has had only ONE on-camera interview as far as I know, and very few people know about his Broadway career. I have actually seen video of Kandel on Broadway on RU-vid, and HE. IS. AMAZING. In fact, when Jason Alexander did the "Making Of" featurette for Hunchback, HE MISSED OUT ON KANDEL AND HIS CHARACTER ENTIRELY! No joke, if I had been at this event: www.playbill.com/article/15th-anniversary-concert-of-the-whos-tommy-rocks-broadway-dec-15-com-156098 and they asked the audience for questions, I would have raised my hand, been called up on stage, and then proceed to give Kandel an entire tribute to the tune of "Bells of Notre Dame." He should be remembered for WAY MORE than just this movie.
I don't seem to recall that part of the song. ;P Given that there's precious little available on media of Broadway performances (believe me, I've looked; I REALLY want to see TLK), I can't say I'm familiar with Kandel's work beyond HoND. But he does know he's appreciated for his work in this film, at least, and he loves it.
Jonathan Sulinski Yes. They decided to bring that back in the stage show. Quasi's singing is beautiful but when he talks you realize that his voice is as imperfect to the masses as his appearance.
I love watching this episode of "Drunk Disney". "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" has been one of my favorite Disney movies since I first saw it in theaters when I was eight years old and your guys' commentary is absolutely hilarious. I'd love to see you do "The Hunchback of Notre Dame II". It's one of those movies that's so bad you have to watch it to see just how unbelievably bad it is; you'd definitely get drunk while watching it. And for the drinking game for it, I'd suggest, "Take a shot every tome something happens that would make Victor Hugo turn in his grave."
Um, fun fact: the term "g#psy" is a pretty derogatory name for the Roma people (or Romani) I know this video is half a decade old so this wasn't really that well known, just leaving this for future viewers
PyromanicSchizophrenic Oh yeah...I forgot that was a thing. I usually just read the name of the school, so I don't hear it enough to screw up how I say it XP
This has been my favorite Drunk Disney so far, your commentary is great, but that might also be because I love Hunchback a lot too. You are all beautiful, funny people (Chelsea is totally my favorite though), and in keeping with the theme of disney trying to be dark and hot animated ladies I vote for Atlantis!
One of my all time favourite movies it is brilliant. To me the most underrated Disney movie of all time. It got like 6.6/10 in IMDB. I love the opening song and the ending song. I cried at the ending of it where the little girl gave him a hug. Plus Phoebus is hot reminds me of Eugene Fitzherbert from Tangled. I bet that Eugene is Phoebus's son LOL
Guys if you like this movie you need to watch the stage musical because its EVEN BETTER. And you might just cry because it's a lot closer to the book. It's basically what this would have been were it not restricted by Disney. (And don't worry, no annoying gargoyles)
Oh my goodness this was hilarious and I was cracking up throughout the entire thing. This was a treat to watch! I totally vote for Atlantis: The Lost Empire, it's such a horribly underrated movie with a lot of good action scenes and humor in it. It's one of my favorites (also it always confuses me that Kida's not considered a Disney Princess despite this movie considering her to be an actual princess)
I never get through this one, because as soon as I hear "Bells of Notre Dame" I'm like, "MUST. LISTEN. TO. SONG," and then I go fucking look it up and forget to come back to this
I love this so much. This has been my favorite drunk Disney in a while! Is it bad that i'm 22 but I just want to come get drunk with you guys while watching Disney movies? I did that the other day when I watched Pocahontas, and it was pretty funny! Keep up the amazing work guys! :)
THOND is legit my favorite movie of all time. Cheers to the drunk disney crew for such a funny episode, and for the films 20 year anniversary this year.
I'm coming back to this just to say that ever sine they pointed out the creepy cgi people in the feast of fools scene, I cannot look away from them any time I watch Hunchback now.
You know, I'm gonna have to go for Home on the range - not just because you promised to get ridiculously plastered, but because it's the one Disney movie I've never managed to watch. More power to you if you can manage it!
