FILM DESCRIPTION:
Based on the best-selling young-adult novel by author Suzanne Collins, The Hunger Games tells the dark tale of a 16-year-old girl named Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence), who is selected to compete in a vicious televised tournament in which 24 teenagers from a post-apocalyptic society fight to the death for the entertainment of the masses. In the future, North America is no more. In its place has risen Panem, a divided nation split into 12 districts. Every year, each district selects a teen of each gender (called "Tributes") to test their worth in a competition known as the Hunger Games, which are broadcast across the nation as entertainment, and to reinforce the government's total power. I liked how in the original there was a moment where Katniss thought Peeta drew his knife so she raises her bow, only to realize he was just throwing it away, and then she lowers her bow in shame. It reveals something really interesting about trust and love in their early dynamic I thought.

Katniss slightly raises the bow and contemplates killing Peeta, he insists he's the one to die because he loves her. Katniss looks for a way out to protest the games, Peeta does whatever she says because he loves her. Katniss looks for a camera to dare the gamemakers to allow them both to die. Peeta wants to stroke her hair one last time. I feel like Peeta would be very bad at chess.

Lone Wolf, The revolution started because they didn't went through with it according to Snow. With that ultimatum they showed the world that the Capitol is weaker than they think. Bear in mind the whole point of the games was to cause fear inside districts and also to anger them against each other so they couldn't unite. So if Katniss and Peeta had just killed themselves, it would have shown districts that the Capitol acts on no bluffs.

I always thought of it as a sign of foreshadowing the rebellion. What they're doing is rebelling against the games and the capitol. In mockingjay, Snow forbids all symbols (or something like that) of the mocking Jay and his grand daughter takes out her braid inspired by Katniss. Idk maybe I'm thinking too deep lol.

They changed a lot of things from the book, but I think the inclusion of Seneca Crane as Head Gamemaker and that "STOP! STOP!" was done really well in the movies.

@@gabrieljimenez3461 Seneca Crane isn't mentioned till the second book. In the first book, the Gamemakers let them eat the berries because everyone thinks they're bluffing. Claudius Templesmith's voice only calls for them to stop after they've both taken a mouthful of berries because that's when it really sinks in that they may not have any victor. Katniss and Peeta then run to the lake to spit out the berries and wash their mouths.

The book was narrated by Katniss so we only see her POV. It was nice to see how everything unfolds outside the arena. The movie presented that very well. It makes a lot of sense that Haymitch tried to twist the game by telling Seneca Crane “young love”.

in the books he kills the district 8 (i think) girl who started the fire but even that was more of a mercy killing. one of them had already cut her but she was still alive so he went back to finish her off. probably saved her a long painful death

@@SamuraiGirl02 I think this is unlikely. At that point, there were 4 tributes left - Foxface, Kato and the district 12 pair working together. Foxface was great at hiding and stealing food, so I'm sure she would have managed to stay alive for at least a few more days, hoping that either Cato or Katniss and Peeta die fighting the other. Yes, she would have almost no chance in a head-to-head fight with either of them, but with just one person left to fight, her odds would increase. And that's the point of Hunger Games, to sway the odds in your favor. So there's no way she'd kill herself at that point.

It actually gives me goosebumps when Katniss says, "Trust me" because after that, look at how far they've gotten after the whole franchise. Married with kids, no more games. It's like the look on her face when she said that could predict everything. All because of that one choice to go together and having hope that they would be stopped.

Perhaps - I think she had a small hope that they might intervene - but this was the best play to survive (she hates the capitol but she also is a survivor - so this was killing two birds with one stone). Had the game-maker wanted to survive though he would have killed Katniss right after she contradicted Peeta and said - "No, no they don't" (have to have a victor) - THAT would have been the moment - after killing her - to have a thunderous voice call out "YES, YES WE DO HAVE TO HAVE OUR ONE VICTOR." @@kingcamelot1395

all seneca had to do was not reverse the ruling. what did he think was going to happen? producing one winner was impossible from the start. but no, that one little reverse sparked the revolution with everyone watching because he was defied again. if they both killed each other, the districts would easily rebel seeing that it's impossible to win no matter what. however what he did was WORSE because now the people see they can have some control in the games.

It would’ve been the same result either way. With them alive the capitol could at least manipulate them after the fact in order to placate the masses. But if they became martyrs, their sacrifice would’ve been permanent and thus made it impossible to quell the people

Seneca gambled on Katniss’s survival instincts to kick in. He expected her to shoot Peta (easy target) and win. Most of Katniss’s kills were instinctual/defensive. Seneca underestimated Katniss and he didn’t know that Peta was important to her BEFORE the games.

When Snow says “if Seneca crane had any sense he would’ve blown you both out of the sky” That would’ve made literally everyone rise up anyway. The districts would’ve been furious at the broken promise as would the capitol, they’d have felt betrayed and everything would’ve fallen apart much quicker. Katniss actually did them a favour for a short period of time.

Nope. If everyone saw those two try to defy the capitol and then get killed instantly it would remind them of how quickly and easily the capitol deals with rebellion. You don't even have to look far to see real world equivalents of this type of mentality.

That would not have worked. The only way they could've had more than 2 victors was to kill all the careers that would not rebel (districts 1, 2 & 4) as well as anyone who wouldn't make an alliance with district 12 & only saved the survivors of said secret pact. My guess is Snow would've killed their families & nuked those districts if more than Peeta & Katniss lived.

Josh Hutcherson was the perfect Peeta for this movie and you can’t change my mind. I mean, Jennifer Lawrence is flawless as Katniss too, but Hutcherson was the only person that could’ve played Peeta.

I liked the book's version better. It was obvious that Katniss had started to fall for him. In the book it was a mixture of not wanting to lose him and protesting.

I wish they hadnt taken out the bit where Peeta takes out his knife and Katniss immediately levels her bow at him, assuming he has turned on her immediately and wants to get the drop on her, when in fact he is throwing his knife away. It goes to show both of their personalities so much - Peeta just being a good, good person, and Katniss still not really knowing who to trust and who is really on her side, as she's so used to it being her and her family against the world that despite how long she'd been on the same side as Peeta, for a split second she thought he was throwing it all away.

I cant help how Peeta and Katniss must’ve felt when they heard, “…has been… revoked. Only one victor may be crowned.” All that hope that’d been built up for days thinking they could both save each other and leave together, then, finally killing off Cato at the end, thinking they were going home :’( only to realise the Capitol never really changed the ruling at all. It was all for the “show”, and what’s even worse is, they’re now going to get their true finale… watching the star crossed lovers battling to the death. Lucky Katniss had the berries tho haha I remember watching this scene in the cinema for the first time (hadn’t read the books), my heart fell off a cliff. Even though you could kinda see this twist coming haha

I read the book, I watched the movie, both scenes felt like a more meaningful version of Romeo and Juliette. Also can we appreciate the fact that Katniss managed to use the game makers rules and tools against them? This act actually made proof when Katniss said: "We're more than just a peice in there game" and most don't even seem to notice that realization. If they both die, they beat the system and there'd probably never be another game again. If they both win, they get to go back to their families. It's a win-win for Katniss (maybe Peeta too) but thin ice for the game makers.

Katniss mentions in the book that if she died, both Cato and Clove could've made it home. But what about this rule change? If they fought, who would've died? Surely, they wouldn't let the other survive.

Yeah I doubt they would do what Katniss and Peeta did here. They might not like it, but they would accept it and fight, doing what The Capitol ordered them to do. And Cato would win because he's older and more experienced. Though Cloves knifes could help her.

There's no way the Careers would agree to that. But even if twenty-four of us (from our world) were randomly thrown into the Games, I'd like to believe we'd all just be like, "Yo let's chill and survive as long as possible before the Game Makers decide to set us all on fire." And then we just set up a happy camp around the Cornucopia, and some people are in charge of water, others in charge of food, fire, etc. (Of course the Game Makers would kill us off eventually, but hey, better than participating). But I seriously doubt that'd happen - all 24 need to be selfless

@@tsuyuasui7297 If you're talking about why the regular Hunger Games participants wouldn't agree to not killing each other, it's because they've already been conditioned to kill each other. The Careers have an entire lifestyle based around trying to win and get rich. If you're referring to a situation where normal people wouldn't all just get along - I have enough faith that everyone would be okay for a while, even with the government killing people off to "motivate" them, but I suspect that once there's only a few participants left and the game makers are killing those who won't fight...well, I'd rather die by the game makers' hands than by killing other tributes, but suffice to say I don't think everyone thinks that. If it means their survival, they might become ruthless. Besides, what are the odds that at least 1 in 24 people have that kind of mentality? Pretty high, I think

This scene is incredible and delightful. The nature of tyranny is that being about the will of a single leader and not a consistent set of rules - you foster a sense of injustice. Hatred of injustice is one of the heartbeats of liberty. If a child' s tragic death inspired riot - imagine what a contemporized Romeo and Juliet double suicide would do?

in the book they didnt stop them until the berries were already in their mouths. it wouldve been more effective if they had it like that in the movies because i think the reason they let them go that far in the books was because they thought that one of them was gonna trick the other and not eat them, if that makes sense.

Okay, I saw the movie first, years ago, and then read the books, and I’m now coming back to the movies. For the most part, I think they did a good enough job at bringing the book to life, but this scene really should’ve stuck closer to the source material because this scene was so emotional in the books, that even though I know the outcome, I was on the edge of my seat reading.
