i read the entire series, and i don’t understand how he sounds like that. i mean it’s been a while since i’ve read it but his argument sounded reasonable the only thing that i can think of that he got wrong is that fact that katniss always loved peeta and everyone knew that they would be together
You have very sourly missed a key point with this one. Gale didnt execute it, he gave them the idea for the hummingbird trap but he was not responsible for executing it. Prim wasnt even meant to bw there, even Katniss knew Prim had no business being there. She was put there on purpose. It feels out of character, because it is, because gale never did it. But katniss knows it was his idea that was used. Edit because it's important to me that people understand: I don't like Gale. He got what he deserved, and while he didn't execute it, it's his own actions and thirst for violence in the name of revenge that pushed katniss away, I stand by he would never hurt katniss or her family knowingly or willingly, but I do not like him due to his alienating behaviours that ultimately put katniss off as well.
when was this said? ive read the book and watched the movie and cant recall this moment. from what i know, katniss left gale because peeta was a better option and because he moved to district two. she didn’t leave him because he killed prim
@noobilyplus It's a lot of subtext, in the movie it's the scene where they glance over to gale stratergising on one of the tables as katniss goes by, as for the books I don't recall exactly what the scene was but it was there for one of the war meetings where he calls it the hummingbird trap. She essentially blames Gale due to realising it was his trap, but it only clicks after Snow points out he didn't bomb the capitol children, and her realising only Coin would have sent prim out on purpose, as prim had no business being there. It's towards the end. It clicks for her who's trap it is, and why prim was there. Even though Gale begs he didn't know, Katniss can't seperate it, he genuinely didn't know, it was out of his hands, but the fact it was his idea was condemning enough, despite the fact we all know he'd never actually hurt prim.
When katniss and gale meet up for the first time after the attack she outright asks was it your bomb and he says I don't know she then has a realization that she will never love him again there's also a passage about how she was relieved he stayed in 2 there's a ton of subtext as well as actual text
In the books Katniss talks about Gales rages in the very first chapter. He was okay with killing everyone in the mountain in district 2 and he didn't care if there were children or hostages in that mountain... The bombs weren't out of character.
He designed the bomb intentionally to lure those in with false promises of supplies (using the same parachutes used for supply drops) and then a second detonation after first responders were on scene. Beetee and Gale first discuss the idea of this bomb on page 63, Prim first mentions to Katniss that they are training her to become a doctor on page 149, and the bomb is first put into testing on page 185 the used in the finale on page 347. Gale and Prim don’t regularly interact within the book, but we have to account for the fact that it is from Katnisses perspective and that she is largely isolated in the latter half of the book. Keeping in mind that their families are very closely tied, the likelihood that Gale would not have known that Prim was working with the medics on 13 is slim to none. Building off of that, Gale lived actively as a soldier and prominent member of the war effort in 13 throughout the last book. 13 heavily valued utilitarianism and shared his “means justify the ends” attitude which is why he was able to not only fit in seamlessly but also excel within the district. By the beginning of part three, their not-so-fun romp through the Capitol, the loss of life of 13 in the war effort has been massive and it is an all hands on deck situation. Not to mention, by this point Gale knows that Coin wants Katniss as out of the picture as possible, which is why she sends Peta. With Gales logic aligning with Coin’s in their heavily utilitarian approach, I doubt Gale would have completely ruled out the idea that, given that Prim has been trained as a medic, that they would not send her to be a medic on the front lines where huge losses of life are occurring. Not to mention the death of Prim acting as a secondary method to “disable” Katniss and prevent her from interfering with politics post-war. To imply that Gale had no fault or understanding of the potential consequences of creating the bomb, you would have to entirely ignore how Gale even was able to think of and put into action the creation of the bomb itself. He understood and supported Coins methods of doing battle. During the invasion of district two, more specifically in the strategy meeting on plans to take the Nut stronghold, it was Gale that suggested that they bomb it in order to cause avalanches that would trap everyone inside, fully knowing that the majority of those still inside were civilians. He was fully and completely ready to sacrifice innocent lives just for a military and political advantage. He went into the climax of the war knowing that A. Coin shared his mentality of “do whatever it takes to win, regardless of loss of life or who is losing their life” B. That he helped design a bomb intended to lure in bystanders and medics for ultimate loss of life C. Coin was trying to minimize Katniss’ ability to intervene politically in the postwar D. That 13 is ultimately a utilitarian society where Prim, a 13 year old, was already working as a doctor and that the forces in the Capitol needed extra support due to the massive loss of life And E. that there were a large wave of refugees headed towards Snows mansion He is a smart enough man to understand the logical throughline in which his bombs would be used to implicate the Capitol by sending in 13s medic and eliminate both remaining support for Snow, as well as emotionally break Katniss. To suggest otherwise just makes no sense. Uhhhhhh I shouldn’t be allowed to talk about the hunger games I get a little deranged. None of this was meant in an angry tone or to be like “um actually” I just know aggressively too much about these godforsaken books and movies and saw an opportunity to talk about it’s characters in depth haha :) the tism really shines through sometimes TL;DR: just read from when I list the A-E points lol
@isabellairon8420 I agree with you completely and definitely love the commitment to writing something this long and detailed. Loved reading it, Hunger Games is one of the best movie and book series ever.
but he did know it would kill innocent people trying to help… which eventually killed prim. His idea of a second bomb to draw more people in targeted people like prim so he‘s definitely at fault
Katniss chose Peeta because he completed her. He was optimistic, gentle and kind. Gale was violent like Katniss. The trap he designed just emphasized that. Everyone knows Coin murdered Prim, not Gale.
katniss was similar to gale BUT there was a fundamental difference. Katniss would have never even considered doing the mountain stunt. Gale is much more like Snow actually
@@Laylee_Doodleit was made pretty clear in the last movie that he was willing to sacrifice innocent lives for the sake of their cause, which didn't align at all with Katniss' values. I'm basing this off of the movies because i didn't read the books
I think this scene is important because it highlights the tragedy of war. The story all starts because Katniss volunteered to save her sister and in the end, her sister dies. Peeta doesn't want the games to change him but he gets hijacked. And Gale promises to protect katnisses family, but he ends up failing by accidentally creating the war tactic that killed her.
@@HazelLau-vq2ez He created a war tactic DESIGNED to kill FIRST RESPONDERS. In our reality, that's terrorism AND a war crime. In the world of the Hunger Games that is still super duper morally dirty. The fact that he was so detached to the reality of what he was planing until it end up losing him Katniss is what is hard to ignore. His strategy was just as cold and calculating as that of the Capital. From Katniss point of view, though, it has little to do with fault, but with the fact that from that point on, whenever she looked at him, she would only ever be capable of seeing the strategist behind Primm's death.
That scene on Mockingjay part 1 where Gale calls Peeta a coward should not even exist. The one who watched that video with katniss in the book was Finnick and he was very suportive. That makes me even sadder, bc the movies took away some scenes between Katniss and Finnick, and Finnick was a better friend than Gake on the last book
Yup, to where Gale even got jealous of Finnick. Dude was in love with another girl and was around 10 years older than Katniss. Could Gale just grow up?
Agreed, I wish they included more of how Finnick was going through the same thing as Katniss and how he was able to help keep her mind busy so she wouldn’t spiral.
Totally not out of character! From the beginning we see Gale is an angry person with so much hatred because of the whole situation, and I don't blame him at all! But that anger kept growing and when it was time for war, it took the best of him. He only wanted the nightmare to be over, but for that he was willing to do whatever it took to win the war, to the point innocent people could become collateral damage. I think it's a strong statement to say he murdered Prim, he didn't. He designed the bomb that killed her and never even imagined it would harm her... but he did take a chance to kill civilians and I bet he blames himself for this everyday. Oh well. It's like Katniss herself said in the book, Gale had too much anger, he was always like this, he never was and never would be a good match for her. She needed Peeta's peace and kindness.
Are you sure you read the book? Because all that literally screams 'I only watched the movie'. Gale literally swore he'd protect Katniss's family in the first book and you can see, even in the movie how much he cares for Katniss. Do you really think he'd expected his bomb to kill Prim? He was only willing to kill the people inside the Nut in district 2 because he thought the people in there were all working for the Capitol. He saved all those people from District 12, and yet you haters only see what he's done wrong. Please open your eyes and read/watch carefully, because Gale Hawthorne is a much better person than you think he is.
@@HazelLau-vq2ez are you sure you read my comment? Yes, I’ve read the books more than once and I think you’re letting how you feel about gale get in the way of your judgement. I never said he was a bad person or that he wanted to hurt prim. He always wanted to protect her, and that’s why I said he’ll probably always blame himself for it. He was a good person who let the poverty, the abuse and war take the best from him. He was angry, rightfully so. It happens. I just really think you should read my comment again because you totally missed my point.
But if you read the books, you can see how Gale was more hardened… especially as the story progresses. Katniss chose Peeta because of his warmth and kindness. She was so tough and experienced so much trauma… she didn’t need someone who was hard. Gale’s plan that unintentionally killed Prim was just the icing on the cake…
A saint who DESERVED BETTER??? GIRL, he guilted her for her relationship during the games, constantly disrespected her boundaries and was incapable of NOT making every situation about himself. He isn’t like, evil or anything but his actions well before the finale drove Katniss away from him. He was cruel and callous about human life and had zero respect for the people that Katniss cared for until it became convenient to him. He saw in black in white, win or lose, us vs them terms. His treatment of Katniss was not out of love but possession. He only saw her love as valid and present in his terms and when he needed to feel bad for himself. Thats where the “you only care about me when I’m hurting” line comes from. It only served to make her feel bad about not paying enough attention to him. I could go on for actual hours about this topic cause boy howdy is this series ever my special interest but honestly, nobody will read this anywho. The point is, the ending was not to just knock him out of the running because of a love triangle, it was to solidify the consequences of his callus and unyielding disregard for the deeper feelings and human lives around him. He may not have dropped the bomb, but he designed it without care of who would get hurt. If it were anyone but Prim, he absolutely would have stood by his choice because he wouldn’t have felt that loss personally.
Everyone always forgets that Gale moved to district 2 and never spoke to katniss again. He fell in love with someone (unspecific), and forgot about being in love with her. If this had happened to peeta, he might have actually died without katniss. Gale never cared as much. He could survive without her. Peeta cannot.
well then Gale‘s story is way more realistic… If the girl/guy you love tells you to fuck off you start a new life without him/her, no matter how much you loved her/him. Peeta as described by you sounds luke a weirdo stalker who will end up stabbing Katniss if she rejects him
@@meganoob12 Not to be disrespctful but what? From the very beginning Peeta cared about Katniss; he only ever wished for her to be happy even if that meant sacrificing his own happiness. He was no stalker/werdio.
While I agree, with the take, Gale wasn’t the one to actually bomb the children in the Capitol, but he was partially responsible for the DESIGN of the cruel second detonation device designed to take out those rescuing those in the initial blast. Katniss and Gale argue about this briefly, with Gale coming down on the side of “These are the measures we need to take in war against an oppressive regime” But with Prim training as a medic and thus being in the group of first responders, he became indirectly tied to Prim’s death in Katniss’ mind forever. Obviously he was guilt stricken, but never said if he knew of any of Coin’s plans to use them in the way they were, which he likely wouldn’t have approved of, but the fact it wasn’t a GUARANTEE that he would of disapproved is what sealed Gales fate as a distant friend to Katniss rather than the romantic family he wanted with her.
So in the box from Buck one, Gail is anti-he doesn’t see the capital as human and he doesn’t care if they all die is shown in movie three where he wants to bury everyone in the minds, even janitors even people that aren’t responsible for the rebellion, he just doesn’t care he loses sight of humanity, and every life mattering he sees everyone as an animal and he just set up traps. It isn’t until Prem dies as a responsibility of his own trap that he finally learned his lesson but these were people these were children. These were mothers fathers kids, sisters, brothers friends. Yes, he lost Katniss, but he needed to lose Katniss as a plot development for his characteristics.
I think Gale’s storyline is a commentary on how people think it’s ok to sacrifice innocents in war ‘for the greater good’ until you consider they’re also people with families and names and dreams
It didn’t feel out of character AT ALL he was ruthless with anyone on the capitol side incluiding women and children, and that is because he is a product of his trauma and the capitol, he had so much anger inside that katniss already had in her, that’s why she needed peeta
Ahem, what woman and children? He didn't want for the bomb he designed to kill the Capitol children. Sure, I do ship Katniss and Peeta, but Gale isn't a bad character either. Start seeing the goods and not just the bads, will you?
The best thing is to realize that this was NOTHING out of character, Gale always wanted revenge and never cared who he could hurt in the process, apparently you didn't read the books, or watched the movies with
This was foreshadowed from the beginning: Katniss meets Gale because she finds one of his traps in the woods. They both have skill in using violence to survive but Gale comes from a much different place mentally than Katniss. That’s how he can say killing people is not different than killing deer. He is willing to accept indiscriminate violence.
Peeta and Katniss were so compatible Because of shared trauma. Think about all the times Katniss has had freak outs in the books like panic attacks. Gale doesn’t know how to help her with that because he wasn’t with her in those experiences. Peata was.
My favorite quote comes at the end of the last book and movie:”There are still moments that I wake up screaming from nightmares of lost children and Mutts and he still clutches a chair in the dining room but eventually his arms are there and then his lips and I feel that tingling that overtook me on the beach in our 2nd games and in our 1st games and after when he asks me you love me real or not real I say real “
Also in the first movie after the reaping he told Katniss that hunting people and animals weren’t difference. I think we got to see his story arch progress into the war criminal. Haven’t read the books in forever so I don’t remember much
Something I'd like to add is when Katniss thought she was going to lose Gale in The Mockingjay (it was at the end I think) she left and moved on pretty fast. But when she thought she was losing Peeta in Catching Fire (when he touches the force field), she starts sobbing hystericaly. So she probably already knew she was always going to pick Peeta over Gale
I think if you want to make this argument it should be about the books, the creators of the movies aren’t the ones who created the story, that was the author. Also, if you’ve read the books it’s totally in character for Gale, he was always quite violent and him having the idea for the hummingbird trap is in line with his character. What wouldn’t make sense for his character is if he was the one who executed the idea and killed Prim, which he didn’t, Coin did.
In the third book Gale already said he would sacrifice anyone, including himself, for the war to end without hesitation, so I was sort of expecting something to happen. But I still thought Gale was a good guy, until the end. Now I loath hearing his name. And also, Coin is the one who executed the plan, Gale just gave her the idea.
Gale's character arc wasn't surprising. He was always full of anger against the Capitol unless like Katniss, who was more accepting her life and tried to adapt. Katniss started to love Peeta in the Hunger Games and needed him after the Games. He understood, what she had witnessed, what they had seen. Gale couldn't understand it and he lost Katniss, because of his anger and hate for the Capitol. Both Gale and Peeta had the chance to get revenge, but only Gale acted on it. He became a soldier, developed traps and plans for Coin without seeing Coin's true character. In a way, Gale was like Coin and the gamemakers. So, it had to be Peeta in the end. And I love, that they have children. It is not about the happy fairytale emding. Katniss once said to Gale that she would never have children in this world with the Hunger Games. So Peeta and her having children means the world is safe.
@@HazelLau-vq2ezno we are here to prove that Gale being a war criminal wasn't surprising so no good things about Gale will or should be mentioned because of the topic.
No it’s completely within gales character his blind rage against the capital allowed for him to help create a weapon and plan a strategy that kills the 1 person he was supposed to be keeping alive.
He didn't ask for the bomb to kill the Capitol children. He just designed it. There is no proof that he actually intented to use that one, and it wasn't his idea to send Prim in either. So if you want to hate someone, hate Coin. Leave Gale out of this.
@@HazelLau-vq2ez”he didn’t ask for it to be used, he just designed”. lol. there’s literally a scene where he discusses the plan with beetee. the bomb on its own is inhumane. the plan is literally to lure MEDICS in only for a second bomb to kill them. even in modern day standards killing medics is a war crime by the geneva convention. gale never meant to kill prim, but he did intend to kill innocent capitol citizens. and if prim hadn’t died in that attack, he wouldn’t have regretted it.
It wasn't at all out of character. From the beginning he has the potential to be a radical. In the first movie when him and katniss talk about the system he is way more enranged and inclined to take action, whereas Katniss just wants to take care of her family. He has no empathy for Peeta when he's hijacked but then he uses him being hijacked to shut Katnis up when she complains about the ruthlessness of his "one bomb to draw people in and then a second". No empathy for ambushing people in dosctric 2. And it is also pretty clearly implied that him and Coin get along a bit too well and that Coin is hopes to get to Katniss through him. And that he keeps the rhings he talks to Coin from Katniss. All of this is way more fleshed out in the books, but there are plenty of signs in the movies as well.
Gale was not originally supposed to be a “love interest”at all. Plus Gale was emotionally manipulative. Also, he let his hatred turn him into exactly what he hated so much… A Game Maker. He was even jealous of Katniss’s friendship with Finnick in the books. He had toxic written all over him from the beginning. 🤷🏻♀️
I think it’s some kind of small trauma: he falls in love with Katniss, and just then she has to go to the games. Then he has to see her kiss and get kissed by someone they both didn’t even really know before, while having to care for Katniss’s family. He even said in the books that he should have replaced Peeta to protect her, but I think he felt like if he left, Prim and her mom would die of hunger. Just my opinion tho
If you read the books it’d make sense, in mockingjay when gale and beetee were making war plans gale basically proposed to just kill all of the civilians in “the nut” when everyone else wanted to give them a chance to surrender, he also started to become more passive aggressive to Peeta and would constantly guilt trip katniss into kissing him
Yes it broke my heart to read the first part of the first book, two extremely close friends, nearly in love, who helped each other through the dark and hungry days after loosing both their dads, managed to laugh and have fun even with the poverty and misery, but when Katniss volunteered and Peeta was chosen, it all went wrong. Even after I had hope, like when Gale got whipped and she confessed she loved him, but suddenly in mockingjay she can’t seem to decide, which leads Gale into near depression while Peeta thought that she didn’t love him, so it didn’t hit him as hard. And boom, Gale decides to make up some kind of bomb, then goes to district 2 (which makes NO SENCE) and apparently he’s “probably kissing another pair of lips” even tho she knew he had a HUGE crush on her. And then they don’t talk to each other for the rest of their lives. That’s messed up.
Gale's brutality was set up throughout Mockingjay. I feel like it came across better in the books, though. There are multiple scenes where Gale is on board with sacrificing civilians during the rebellion. He is very much like Coin and becomes more angry and revenge focused the longer he fights along side her. It is also made clear in the books that Gale had no idea Prim would be at the bombing sight. Prim was one year too young to be allowed in 13's military. Personel had to be 14 y/o; Prim was 13 when she became a medic. The characters later begin to speculate about Coin sending her out there with special permission. Gale, in the books, is upset about Prim, but he is also too blinded by rage to care as much as the Gale we meet at the start of the books would have been. It was very well done in the books. Like Katnis is Snow's counterpart, Gale is Coin's.
He didn't know Prim was gonna be there tho, as a 13 year old she shouldn't have been. Throughout the entire series Gale always stood by Katniss's side protecting and giving his support even when they disagreed or she continously treated him like dirt. Even in the end he excepts that she will never see him the same way again, only recalling memories of Prim; tho it kills him inside he strays away from her sight to stop her pain. I agree Katniss belonged with Peeta, but why tf is Gale getting so much hate? He is 2nd on my list of favorite characters.
In the first book Katniss talks about Gale and his very bad rage, also he designed the trap and said killing animals and killing humans is the same thing, THIS MAN WAS ALWAYS A MENACE
It wasn't to make the audience on board with peeta, it was to show that being vengeful was destructive and could backfire on yourself and the ones you love
gale was blood thirsty for anything war, it was not out of character for him and rather in character. he followed through with the bombs KNOWING the consequences that could follow, he purposely sent bombs to kill children that had no true purpose to die. he simply wanted to take something away from the capitol that they loved, whether it be children or not. as one of his lines, he tells Katniss he doesn’t care who dies on the other side because even if they’re sweeping the floor, they’re helping the enemy. Gale could never accept that the war was over, so he became a peacekeeper for district 2 because he still strived for bloodshed that should’ve stopped after the “76th hunger games” he showed no remorse toward Peeta and even told him that if it came down to it, he would kill him himself. he called Peeta a coward when he was being tortured at the capitol while he was staying in district 13, so no. this was rather IN character for Gale, which is why he is so unlikeable.
It's not out of character, Gale has always had that very "flammable" (?, I lack a better word atm) personality, and that is specially obvious from Catching fire onwards and even more obvious in the books. It also wasn't Gale who bombed the medical services, but he did give the idea to 13 based on a kind of hunting trap. Katniss already expressed her distate for the idea when it was proposed so now that it was actually executed and with the consequences it had (even if Gale didn't have anything to do with the attack itself), Katniss simply couldn't separate him from it.
you missed the entire point. gale didn’t fire the bombs, he didn’t even know where it was going. he didn’t mean to kill the capital citizens, and he especially didn’t mean to kill prim. i get it, he’s kind of been ruined for me ever since the bombing too, but he didn’t WANT them dead💀
yea he did. he made his opinions clear the day he and beetee were designing the bombs. he just didnt think far enough ahead to think coin would kill prim to keep katniss in check. But if it wasnt katniss, im pretty sure he would have been ok with coins way of controlling people.
I feel like even tho I would have liked Gale and Katniss to be together, I feel like Peeta is really sweet and supportive, but that Gale shouldn’t have been cut off COMPLETELY of their lives. It’s so messed up it made me cry.
(It’s a love right angle btw)As peeta and gale do not love each other therefore not creating the line between them in the love triangle,However, katniss loves or at least likes, both of them making a right angle.
He didn’t kill him, he had the original plan of bombing letting help come in and then bombing those people during the beginning of the movie. They just used his plan and Katniss never liked his plan or attitude during war in the first place.
I think in this dynamic, the reason Katniss ends up with Peeta is because K & P went through 2 hunger games and (in Canon) Peeta goes through mind-memory bending hijacking.....and still returns to Katniss in district 12. The book doesn't leave Gale as the result of Primrose's death. It leaves Gale as a fighter who just isn't what Katniss needs.
But it was Gale who designed the system of a second explosion. The first explosion would go off, then people would go in to help those injured. Then the second explosion would go off, killing many innocent civilians. Katniss expresses her dislike for this tactic to Gale saying this is just as bad as what the capital does, but he doesn’t listen, saying this is what happens during war. This tactic that Coin used was ultimately what killed Prim.
1 tell me you didn’t read the book without telling me you didn’t read the book and 2 it wasn’t exactly all gale he gave them kinda like trap ideas he had no idea where they were going to use them or exactly how it’s not entirely gale’s fault for prims death
It was Gale's idea for the bombs. Coin took the idea and used silver parachutes disguised as bombs to kill the children in the Capitol. The hovercraft used for this had a Capitol seal on it, so any Capitol citizens who saw the bombing would think that Snow ordered the bombing and the killed his own citizens. This caused whatever allegiance the citizens had to the Capitol to instantly fall apart and for the war to be won.
Gale was bitter and he was also the one who created the bomb, where in bomb goes off, and then (this is playing on the human kindness) people will run forward and a second bomb will go off. He created it and told Katniss she was a much needed sacrifice. She told Peeta Katniss would choose the person that could keep her alive the best. He was fire, and she was too. You can’t combine fire with fire, you burn up. Plus, a Victoria could never have a romantic relationship with a normal person, because they’ll never get it.
She didnt choose Gale because he was the designer of the bomb. Gale explained that he was inspired by the traps of the forest. A primary trap catches an animal, the animal screams for help and when other arrive, a secondary trap but bigger traps them all. Its was ingenious but for Katniss it was creepy that he was thinking about people that way. Katniss was never too on board with all this war thing, and when he saw Gale so invested on it, she felt like their relationship was deteriorating
Suzanne wrote gales character to be a very violent one since the first book tbh . He was willing to blow up the mountain in district 2 even if innocent families and children were in it . He wanted to get revenge on the capitol for so long , and him and beetee designed the bomb that killed prim indending to harm other innocent ppl , just not prim . The stategies that gale and beetee were using were manipulative and harmful , where they designed a bomb that would be small and harm the people inside , and those who ran back to save them would also be killed by a 2nd and more powerful bomb . That was just a DESIGN of one of the manh types of war devices they planned on using against the capitol and districts . He also said that killing people is just like killing animals tf . I hated gale from the get-go and mockingjay just heightened my hate for him . He never cared about katniss' trauma in the arena , and when she told him she wasnt ready for a relationship bc she was still getting over the games in catching fire , gale just outright ignored her for dahs , not willing to understand her . He made kat feel guilty for the fwke relationship her and pesta had gking on which saved ehr life , and never really got over the spite he had for katniss or peeta fully . Hes not a saint at all , quote the opposite , a revenge thirsting war soldier who got ruined bc of his love for a girl that he never recieved back , and an ongoing genocide that turned him into the same product he was fighting sgainst evntually . Bone of it was his fault , just a result of the trauma he faced he couldnt handle , but i still hate him for this and many more reasons
It's not said anywhere that Gale planned the attack. Him and Beetee made the concept for the bombs, but Coin was the only one responsible for the trick that got Prim killed. Hence the 'For Prim' line in the vote where it sounds like she means Snow but it was actually Coin she planned to kill.
I'm sorry, but DID YOU EVEN READ THE BOOK? Get a clear view of these things before blabbering your mouth off. Gale only wanted to run because he didn't want Katniss to die in the Hunger Games. The second time, when he heard there was an uprising he wanted to fight. When Katniss suggested to run away, he said he was staying to help the people. He saved 900 people from District 12.
It would seem out of character if you completely misunderstand what actually happened. Coin was the one who sent Prim to the war zone, it was Coin who bombed the Capitol's children. Gale just had the idea of the delayed bomb. But once Coin used that idea to kill Prim Katniss couldn't separate that from him and thus she finally decided that she could never be with Gale and chose Peeta.
There was underlying comments from Gale throughout, always wanting to choose violence and retaliating, whereas peeta was always talking about not changing, not fighting, surviving. He was better at diplomacy and reason. That's why she chose him and not Gale
the moment Gale decided to design bombs that have a delayed 2nd explosion to kill the doctors that ran to save victims was always a red flag that endangered Prim. Prim was already practicing and learning medicine at that time to become a doctor. Gale never saw the difference between hunting animals and hunting tributes. He deals out violence indiscriminately and his weapons also deal out violence indiscriminately.
So my mom told me once she didn’t understand why they put the objectively hotter guy to play the person who didn’t get with the girl. And it’s because that’s the point, Peeta isn’t the “most handsome” or popular, he shy and keeps to himself. That’s why he got with Katniss, Katniss always wanted a quiet and peaceful life, and that’s what she gets with Peeta. And it doesn’t matter that Peeta isn’t the “hot” one, BECAUSE THATS THE WHOLE POINT, Peeta was never meant to be a super hot and flashy guy, which is why I think they did the casting perfectly for both Peeta AND Gale.
Maybe it’s because of how the movies portrayed him but it’s kind of funny because to me it shows how book wise he’s a completely different person because he definitely wasn’t shy, or kept to himself. He was more the charismatic, witty guy who’s pretty flirt and has a lot of friends. Katniss even wonders at one point why he would even look at someone like her who sits by herself in the corner at school when hes always surrounded by a big group. But he is kind, and gentle even if he can be snarky at times and is peaceful which is something Katniss needs. Gale was more tall, dark and handsome and brooding. Girls in district 12 had crushed in him because he’s handsome so it was right to cast a hot actor as Gale
She also chose Peeta not because of that when you read the book you’ll understand in the book katniss says I don’t need gales fire I have enough of the myself I need peetas gentelness
Well Gale didn’t actually murder Prim, he came up with the plan that killed her. Gale and Peeta are supposed to represent her dueling desires for bloodlust and revenge or peace, kindness, and stability respectively.
Ok are we just going to ignore the part of the book where this STILL HAPPENS like it’s pretty major not something you really would forget i mean did you even read the books
The love triangle mirrors the book’s thematic struggle - whilst Gale is the first (to us) voice to contemplate rebellion, is provides the reason for Katniss to conform - to act in love, or as a hostage to provide tension. If there was nothing to lose, rebellion would be the obvious choice and we’d have less narrative conflict.
The thing about the movies is that katniss and peeta doesn’t really feel like they’re in love? At least to me, it just felt like katniss felt obligated to protect peeta because he looks out for her. Maybe it’s the writing?
I think everybody hates me for this but they were at war Gail just gave the idea and the president is the one that made the decision not him he did not kill prim
