Thank you for this quick preview. I was interested, I was actually looking to eventually get a copy of Crimson Scale... I didn't realize the link between the 2. Well, I'll pass on the campaign, because I currently own to many Dungeon Crawl/Adventure games and expansions.. With their combine total, I'm over 50 unplayed adventure box (ok, some only have 2-3 scenarios, but they are still unplayed)!! So, I won't back, but I will definitely add it to my Wishlist. It seems interesting to me, everything you mentioned is tempting, and the card, reaction and dice system, seems new and fun. Another good news is, I finally managed to create 2 new adventurers groups. I will start with games that they chose, but smaller scale and increase complexity and size, as we move forward and confirm the chemistry of the group is working. One starts in June, one full Saturday every month (from 10am to 10-12 pm). First game still to be confirmed and the second group will meet every two weeks (starting next week), on Monday nights. This group as mostly played Zombicide, some Mice & Mystics and D&D boxes... But this time, they are all eager to take a swing at Shadows of Brimstone. My weekend group is really in a Gloomhaven/Frosthaven mood, I can see Rove being played eventually, thank you for your quick review in the time you had, I was passing on it... But "because" of you, it is now on my wishlist. 🙂

I really want to go after this one, but I just cannot pull the trigger. I have 2 major concerns keeping me from backing this: 1) The setup from the reviews I’ve seen limits each scenario to 3 different enemies. I worry this can become stale over time without a wide variety of enemy types. 2) The characters/classes are limited to 5 in the base game with a single evolution track. According to the devs, the core game will have your first evolution early on, and you will spend the majority of the game in the 2nd evolution. However, you can buy add-ons to get additional evolution tracks and play in the third evolution much longer. I don’t like replay being gated behind expansion content. It feels like the primary advancement mechanic is to hook you with excitement in the early stages for demo purposes, then prep you for the final boss. I imagine this will have a successful campaign, not have a great 2nd printing, and then be flooded in 2nd-hand markets. Love the review!

Overall, how does this compare to Tales from the Red Dragon Inn? If you had to rank this game based on your first 2.5 games, assuming every other scenario is of the same level of fun and quality, would it make it into your top 10 Dungeon Crawlers?

The gameplay looks fun but the art and aesthetic does nothing for me. That said, the art of gloomhaven isn't great either imo, but still a great game.
