The Hunt for Gollum a Flop or Successs? 

My concern at this point is with the studio mandates... aka dei casting and forcing "the message" which has no place in a Tolkien work.

I’m really apprehensive to be honest. The way Hollywood is these days I don’t trust how the movie will turn out and also I really hope they don’t do something like the marvel universe which has now severely declined.

I haven’t seen much I like since 2020. However I will give it a look. I do like Peter Jackson.

I didn't mind the Hobbit trilogy. Enjoyed it. To each their own with that one. A movie if done right showing what happened after Return of the King i would love to see. And if they can bring back at least some of the original cast if they aren't too old for the story timeline too. The Gollum video game from last year however.. Oh dear oh dear oh dear 🙈😅 But video games are becoming so expensive to make and then getting rushed out the door, poor management and publishers needing to appease shareholders. That aspect of it, yeah, not great 🙃

I'm personally not any hardcore fan, so as I'm simply enjoying some good story telling and lovely visuals, I'll probably have fun just as I mostly had with the Rings of Power, though there were may small bits that I found a little off, just in terms of psychology and "I thought you'd handle this in a smarter manner, but hey, I guess living beings do silly things when in situations rather than observing them from outside"-sort of things. So, we'll see?

I feel like this is the corporation admitting they’re out of ideas without saying it. Any other characters are right there. The hunt for Gollum was already shown in the lord of the rings and hobbit movies. It’s retelling those moments and putting it into a 3 hour movie (most movies are nearly 3 hours these last couple of years. I’m not sitting through 2 hours of gollum. We have seen his whole backstory. We’ve not seen anyone else’s in the movie universe(.

I’m hopeful for this! I hope Vigo reprises his role in some capacity (even though Aragorn is technically younger and Vigo is 24 years older - yikes). Maybe they could take the approach of Aragorn telling this story to his son Eldarion, so that an older and younger Aragorn could both appear. In case you couldn’t tell by my username I’m a huge fan of LOTR and of Aragorn especially as Strider; so this idea is really exciting to me if it’s done well. I agree with your ideas about tackling smaller stories; the Rings of Power bit off more than it could chew and has been so disappointing. I couldn’t get through season 2. It doesn’t feel like Tolkien at all. Have you seen the fan made version of the hunt for Gollum?

I think that smaller limited stories (like "The Hunt for Gollum") might be quite successful. Another possibile story is "The Scouring of the Shire".
