Glad you enjoyed it. Yes, about any amateur radio shop will have Iambic paddles in stock. You hook them up to an electronic "keyer" and you can change the speed of your character.

@mikebuddy1 Thanks for the question. As a learner or an expert, the bencher line of paddles are very inexpensive and ergonomic. I am using a bencher in the video. There are more expensive and in some peoples opinion, "better", but as a beginner I would try one out. I've been doing the code for more than 30 years, and I love the bencher Iambic paddle, and their straight keys. I also love the "TICK" line of keyers for the electronics. A lot of value for the money. Good luck!

I am familiar with the kit. It is a nice small Iambic keyer. It is worth the money. I use a Tick Keyer. It allows you to do everything the Pico does, but has many more features. Honestly, I may order a pico because it does exactly what it is supposed to. Thanks for writing.

My first keyer was a Ramsey kit that was not iambic, so I never did learn iambic keying. At one point I thought I'd start keying that way, but then decided to stop in case I ever used a single-lever paddle or non-iambic keyer again. I'm comfortable sending 25 WPM non-iambic, so I'll probably stick with it.

@M70ACARRY I built the keyer and there is an adjustment for the speed but there is no scale. I would say the keyer speed is about 13 WPM but the rate is slower. I am allowing more time between the characters but the speed of the keying is about 13 wpm. Thanks for asking! AA8KY

@raosprid AA8KY is my call sign. DE is an abbreviation used in Morse Code which means, "this is." So DE AA8KY stands for, "this is AA8KY"

Yup, I learned my keying on an Iambic. I can't use any other type of paddle now.

A very easy to follow demonstration, thanks. I think I've seen a RU-vid vid of a key that was rigged to produce two distinctly different tones for the dahs vs dits. So it was more like listening to two different notes. Are you familiar with this sort of set-up? Is it off the shelf or, does it sound homebrewed? Obviously I should have favd it, but alas. Thx

I think most right handed people use their thumb for dahs and index finger for dits, backwards from what he shows. I suppose one could learn either way. 73

Cool! What were you using for a keyer?

As someone starting out to learn cw,would you choose any paticular type of keyer to start on as there seem to be various types being used?Thanks for the great video

I am a right-hander but I train to use the iambic key with my left hand. It is not difficult and frees up my right hand for the pencil.

I'm just getting back to CW, passed my Extra last month. My key is a Bencher BY-2, looks a lot like yours. There's been a bunch of my ham friends that have told me to start back with a straight key rather than start using the iambic. Frankly, I'd rather not use a straight unless I want to. That's what I started on, thirty-five years ago. What's your thoughts on this? BTW great keyer- I'd like to build one. 73 de KE5LIB!

I received two files, but both of them contained no sound at all.

Morse code is not binary at all. It is trinary, for the well timed 'spaces' between the dits and dahs is relevant for transmitting clearly- - they are nulls but not voids! So you have a trivalent digital code.

Mr. Wlliam I have a recording of a sequence of sounds in the form of stroke that apparently is morse code, which I would like to mail so that I can hear and say if morse code and if so, can translate. My name is Luis. I'm from mexico

That is not an iambic keyer! it is a dual lever paddle. The electronic device that produces the diths and dahs is the iambic keyer.
@aa8ky
@aa8ky 8 лет назад
+Raul Croes You are mistaken. This IS an Iambic Key. Iambic keys have Two paddles. That way you can squeeze the paddles and the electronic keyer does the rest.

What does DEAA8KY at the end mean? I'm guessing AA8KY is your handle, so what about the DE?
