The 'radiator' you mentioned is an oil cooler and the fins on the cylinder are not fake - this is an air cooled engine. Water cooling came in 2016 where obviously the entire engine was redesigned. Good info on your ownership experience though.
Thanks for this, was never sure 100% sure on what was what. Always wondered why there was a radiator on an air cooled engine, I thought it was just for additional cooling, never considered the oil would need a separate cooling mechanism. Much prefer it to the massive radiator the later liquid cooled models have 🤫
@@unOrdinaryWorldIt certainly looks sleeker than the water cooled ones. Thing with air cooling is that often manufacturers will indeed utilize oil coolers to complement the air cooling. So while it's useful in itself to keep the oil cool for better lubrication, they actually do use oil cooling as an extra cooling effort on top of the air fins. This is why you often see comparatively large oil coolers (bigger than is needed strictly for the lubricant) on air cooled engines.
Hope you'd had your coffee. Sometimes before I've had my coffee I also hear the walls whispering my name.... 👀 Thanks for commenting Freddie, so cool, love your Vids ❤️
That Bonnie looking absolutely heroic with that stunning seaside backdrop in the last segment. It's just such an iconic silhouette. Simple, honest, composed. It's a gentleman's machine for sure. Great bike, great scenery, very solid review. Ride safe, mate.
What a fantastic video! The Irish scenery is spectacular. The close-up shots of the T100 itself and your narration are crystal clear. I bought a 2023 T100 and found it to be a great bike also, but don't have many miles logged so far due to the weather in the eastern U.S.
Really very good review. I bought a 2011 t100 and I absolutely love it. I had a bonnie t140 e brand new in 1980 sold her in 88 and regretted it. So after having a katana 1100, 955 speed triple , Harley road king, Harley Dyna wide glide ( which I still have ) BMW r 1100s mamola replica ( kept that too ), gen 2 heyabusa, v,strom 1000 I spotted a really immaculate one owner t100 with all paperwork and only 5000 miles from new. I've had to put new tyres on due to the originals being cracked but now she's serviced and A1 I'm loving this bike and she's a keeper too.
I have a Bonnie T100 myself and everything you said in this video is true, could be my words😂 Specially your last words, you know her and she knows you. Exactly that fact! My Bonnie is a keeper as well, learn so much of her, and the feeling, cannot discribe in words💖 Thank you for this video, made me feel warm inside! Safe riding!
This was a great video honoring a splendid machine. She is a beauty and fits in with the Irish countryside almost poetically. Your speed limit comments had me laughing. Thank you! I needed a good laugh. I am eagerly awaiting your next video!
You're right, James, she does fit the environment very well! The UK and Ireland are very similar so she feels at home. I'm happy you enjoyed and glad to have you along for the spin 😁
Thanks for a beautiful and informative video. So glad you turned left and then let your camera linger lovingly on the wild coast. A feast for the senses as well as an excellent summing up of the bike's features and capabilities. If I ha the money and the courage I'd get a Bonnie.
I'd highly recommend it too, they're gorgeous mellow bikes that are as close as you can get to growing wings! She certainly gave me freedom thereto unimagined that sunny April day I bought her back in 2018 🥰
Great review!... You put into words exactly what I feel for my 2012 Bonnie T100... I do miss a 6th gear like you when going over 60mph on the Highway but ... for the most part you can't beat the FUN you can have on a Bonnie!
Common mistake mate, don't need s sixth gear. It's all down to gear ratios. Admittedly I have found myself trying to select sixth gear but that's just because I'm old and dementia is kicking in😂
Great video! I am fellow Bonneville owner. Great descriptions of the bike in all areas. Give us a story on fixing the brakes. Lot's of advice out there on that 😊
Thanks very much, glad you enjoyed! Yes, a few people have suggested some improvements to the brakes, definitely going to do those when I'm back on her for an extended period of time 😉🤫
I like that you've kept it mostly stock. A lot times riders (myself included) will pick up a new bike and while we're in the honeymoon period we immediately start with the mods (new mufflers, tail tidy kit, new handlebars, rejet the carbs, etc) before we've spent any time just riding the bike. I tell people to just enjoy the bike for few months (even up to 6 months) then figure out what you want to change. (Unless it's a mod or change that you need to make to be able to enjoy the bike..like a short rider swapping out the bars or the seat to make the bike ridable.) As far as the other mods go, you may realize two months after buying the bike that this isn't the bike for you after all... in that case, that $1500 you spent on mods isn't adding value on the resale market so you basically threw that money away. A few years ago I picked up a 2017 Moto Guzzi V7iii and immediately started dropping money on mods... I want fork gators, and tank knee pads and a different seat.... a year later I sold it because I realized I didn't love it. Of course I didn't make 1000 dollars I spent back. I sold it for a couple hundred less than what I paid for it originally, which was fine. It was a learning experience, and I had a years worth of fun with the bike.
This was the best motorcycle review ive ever seen, and i dont even own a T100. Well said, well put togather, beautiful ans concise. You made a subscriber, Friend.
Wonderful video! Thanks for the tour, too! I've been around quite a bit but yet to go to Ireland. I share your love of the bike and I've had several. A good cleaning of the calipers every couple years when doing the fluid flush should help the feel. The only mods I've done to my '11 T-100 are a Dart screen and CNC shorty levers as I couldn't adequately cover the front brake with the stock levers, even in the closest position. Ride on, mate!
I just picked up a 2007 Bonneville. It had been sitting for 4 years, so I had to get the inside of the tank and the carbs cleaned up before it would run. It's a fun bike but it seems to run hotter than my vintage bikes. If I aim my laser thermometer at the top cooling fin (an inch or so from the spark plug) it'll be 250 degrees, which is 30 to 40 degrees hotter than my 1964 Triumph 650 or my 1975 Honda CB750 after a similar ride. I didn't expect that. I figured with the oil cooler on the front it would run slightly cooler than those older bikes. Maybe the fuel injected bikes run cooler than the carb models.
These are lifetime bikes, they look good, run well and last. I personally have seen these run 100,000 miles with one valve adjustment. I toured Ireland on a carbed Bonneville two up with luggage. We have dynoed these at about 55 at the rear wheel. Yes they will do 110mph.
G'day from Australia - Top review mate - You're right about the often over looked all-round capability of this bike too - I run a pair of Shinko 705 Trailmasters on mine which are spot-on for both sealed roads and fire trails - Plus they look the part too B)
Beautiful bike and great video keep her. I sold my Bonnie a 1972 years back and should not have, now a BSA 1967, Royal Enfield 2017 500 an ideal bike for touring if you want to see alot! I have done 1000miles in three days on her, also the entire coast of Ireland on 350 Enfield Bullets, best bikes for that small roads some beaches and mountain tracks. Have a look at Frankys World Powers the Pot video lovely bikes and folks, one lady toured over from Scotland on her Bonnie with teenage daughter and trailer full of camping gear. Well done with the channel.
A very enjoyable watch I like the T100 and am considering adding it to my garage as you say they are a timeless design looking so good .Some lovely countryside and the end shot is fantastic is their a twin disc set available using the front wheel you have or would you have to change it along with the reservoir ? . nice one 👌👍
Don't live too far from Ladies Brae and Aughris Head myself so I recognise those roads. Love spinning around there on my Meteor350 (and dropping into the Beach Bar for a Guinness Zero) but hope to pick up an 865 Bonni or CB1100Ex soon. Great vid (first I've seen so will watch some of the back catalogue).
I have never had a bike that made me feel good inside and out a smile on my face like the Triumph T100. I don't know what madness came over me but I traded it in for a Beemer and I regretted it within a month of doing the deed anyway Beemer is gone only to be replaced by another T100. Your description is spot on.
Came to your channel yesterday. I have a 2004 Bonneville t100 and am just about to go and look at it (again). Love your passion for two-wheeled sexy and dangerous things. Vous avez beaucoup de charme.
I'm torn between the T100 and T120, the manoeuvrability around town vs the 6th gear. From Cork originally but living on the continent now. Had a gsx500 when I was on my A2 but had an accident and haven't sat on a bike in 7 years. Dying to get back to it. Miss the oul back roads, getting lost and all the rest of it. Great video, happy riding
Engine sounds like a Heart. I have one 2015 Bonneville A3. Just like your one except a pair of tubeless Alloy and single meter without the rpm meter. I did 3100km and I feel very sad for it. I know you will say what a bike for, if u don't run it, why buy it etc etc, but just get my point. This is an extraordinary Motorcycle. This bike is to keep in a Glass Box like the Monalisa in The Glass-Onion. This Is the Only Motorcycle which is 100% from any Angle. Man, Just Buy an Interceptor and clock it as much as you can and keep this Bonnie forever. I ride a Harley which I did 1lakh+ km on it. :)
Just bought a T120 blk from 2022 which replaced my Iron 883. Was a nice bike, but as a buddy of mine trades his Speedmaster for a T120 blk also. I tokk a look at the bonnie. Ans fell inlove. So hopefully I can say the same after a couple of years as you did. Keep anjoing the bonnie and always have sa safe rind. Greeting from Germany.
Great Video my friend first time watching and i subscribed to your channel, looks a lovely area to check out and the bike looks great i love Triumphs and the Bonneville has so much history...well done ..very well presented and stacks of information
Fantastic review !! .. I think the newer version with the extra power and better brakes would suit you very well ... I had the Street Scrambler version which would be perfect for those Irish roads ! ...
Hello from London, England. I have a 2015 T100 and I agree its a lovely machine. if you want to improve it, I recommend Hagon suspension front and rear plus a retune of the EFI. Subscribed. 🙂
Me mother was Irish from Donegal and me dad was English from Yorkshire. So i ride a Bonneville and feel emotional about it. I find the brakes fine, i just always use both back and front and am used to putting a bit more grip/weight into 'em. She stops just fine doing that.
That's true to be fair, when both brakes are on the go she does stop well enough. I've gotten into the habit of not using the rear much on her due to it having a tendency to stick. The underslung rear caliper gets full of salt meaning regular piston cleaning is in order, something I don't do now as I only ride the bike periodically when I'm home 😬 but good point, when correct braking practice is applied, she sheds speed decently. Thanks for pointing that out! 🙏🏽
Fantastic video . I've been looking at a Bonneville. Its nice to hear a review of someone who doesn't have basketball player genetics and are 6ft 5 😂 . I'm only 5ft 5 . So was concerned about the seat height. I think I'll take a closer look and get a pair of boots with lifts. Thanks Sir, be safe .
I had a 2010 Thruxton that was pretending to be a sport bike. I just got a 2012 Bonneville and it's not pretending to be anything other than a nice ride. Just easy all the way around. I have several other bikes and if I'm not going too far I choose the Triumph.
I think you'll find that your bike here is air/oil cooled. Those cooling fins on the engine are genuine and the radiator is in fact an oil filled oil cooling radiator 🙂
Have you fitted steel braided brake lines, and or fibre pads ? Greetings from Scotland where sheep are into kamikaze leaps in front of bikes :) Bold Erin go Bragh, my Mam was from Donegal :) My Dad was Polish :) Don't ask
Pads yes lines no, that's a good idea for another brakes upgrade, thanks 😁 didn't know even the sheep were crazy up there, though I'm not surprised 😝 thanks for the heads up about the lines!✌🏽
In my next life, I am coming back as one of your motorbikes. 😂😂 I have never seen such love and devotion and knowledge of the positive qualities of a ""her"" in my life. Back to reality, Ferdia everything you explain you make interesting, I think because you speak of your interests and passions. This jumps through the screen and hooks me everytime. And SLIGO is gorgeous. Mountains, green fields and trees, and the Sea... all in one quick ride on your Bonnie. Thanks so much. Joy. ❤
"Hard to know whether the speed limit is the limit, or a dare" spot on 😂 Fantastic review, Ferdia, and a gorgeous Bonneville too! I'm surprised you kept your train of thought going while riding along with the sheep, and more surprised that they ran along ahead of you for so long 😅 Those were some great shots you got of the bike beside the coast. What camera do you use if I may ask?
@@unOrdinaryWorld go for full length springs, I suggest progressive Ikons (others are available but Hagon are short with a spacer like the original springs) full length progressive are much better damped and don't plunge and then rebound like the standard triumph springs.
I'd have to say the Triumph, not that the 850c handles bad at all, but it's a long bike with a stretched out front fork and bars. It's a cruiser after all. The Triumph is definitely more compact and tidy, easier to move around in tight spots than the 850c 😬
Interesting review. My 21 T100 comes with better single brake and good suspension. I prefer the 900 to the T120 but really like both of them. Sounds like you would prefer the T120, with twin disks and 6 gears. The t100 steers more nimbly with the weight of a single disk. Great review.
Yea I'd love to try out one of the new 120's 🤔 but you're dead right bout the weight and handling of the 100, I love it! Thanks for the comment, I'm glad you enjoyed! ✌🏽🏍️💨
What do you think about the T100 or T120 for a totally new rider? I'm 53, 6'3" 215 lns and consider myself a careful driver. What accessories do you recommend for the Bonneville starting out?
Never actually rode the 120, but for a new rider I'd say the 100 is plenty enough bike, and a particularly friendly one for starting on. Panniers and a windshield are definite considerations for accessories 😁🏍️💨
Bet mine's dirtier that yours! I've had my T100 for 15 years now and it hasn't let me down once. It's kept in the open air under a cover throughout the year and criminally deglected but like a faithful old labrador "wags its tail" every time I start her up. I'm 81 now so I imagine she's my last bike. Lovely video, thanks.
Really enjoyed that. Great advert for those bikes and for Ireland. I'm a Geordie with 128,000km on my 2017 T 100 and whatever I might get next I won't be selling this one...Thanks mate
hi, awesom bike🖤. I'm planing to buy exactly the same model Bonnie, color, years itc. I live in Dublin and I don't have a garrage,im planning to use good quality motorbike cover. Could you tell me how it's look this bike after few years user, it's resistant to corosion, how are looks the details? Thanks, cheers
Hi there! In my experience it holds up very well to the elements, the chrome is perfect and only some paint peeling on the lower metal parts of the bike close to the road. Look up FreeMilesMC on RU-vid, he's a friend of mine and reviewed the bike and talked more in depth about the build quality than I did here. I really love my Bonnie! Cool to have a comment from Dublin, will see you on the road 😜🏍️💨
motorbikes are amazing, especially how we get so attached to them. i have a Triumph tiger 1200 gt pro and i love it. i always wanted a Triumph Bonneville the T120 black edition. maybe one day i will get one. the tiger is a heavy beast but i got it for traveling and hopefully in 2024 i will get to do that. Brilliant vlog
Hi mate beautiful country side I’m from Italy and I love Ireland eventhou the weather is always cloud but nevertheless Your Country is in a certain way like your Bonnie and I love the Bonnies ! 11:25
