I always thought that was an odd choice. Everything about the story including getting the hot blonde at the end and being a student calls for a young man.
HOLY FUCK! I've been searching for this game for almost 16 years now. I played the heck out of this as a child. One of the first games that triggered my love for hard dungeon style crawlers like Dark Souls and Bloodborne. I never beat it! Beating games wasn't even a concept in my mind at the time. I just played them! Omg thank you so much for uploading this, you legend. I'm gonna watch it all in one go!.
The spider corridor, damn that was hard, as if going down an isometric hallway wasn't hard enough, you have to dodge egg sacks left and right, all on a time limit before the levitation spell wears off and you meet a gruesome death. If you go too fast, you risk bumping into the walls and start pinballing uncontrollably To this day, I still can't tell for sure when you fall into one of the holes your staff keeps you from falling briefly, while pressing A or B your character makes the attempt to swing up, but could never do it before the staff snaps and send you flying into your doom. My gut tells me it's not recoverable, and it's just a cleverly animated death animation
Amazing, it looks like you tapped the button in rhythm and was able to escape in just 4 swings. I thought it required a certain amount of swings in the short time you're given, clearly rapidly mashing the buttons wasn't going to cut it. Of course, the map you get marked clearly where the holes are, so it's almost impossible to fall in anyway. I'll have to give it a try later, if only for completion sake Still, I'm surprised it's actually possible, one would think your character being this old wizard is quite frail and wouldn't really have the dexterity to swing up like that. Also, my gut feeling tells me that it's not just a one time deal either, though there's no reason to intentionally fall in
This is a truly a memorable game from start to finish. But, staring at the title screen I just realized something horrific that I never noticed before: the skeleton staring back at you appears to have TWO rows of upper teeth.
I just noticed something really horrific too: - The Goblin thing you fight at 2:31 is repeatedly sneezing on you and rumour has it he is rife with COVID.
like "wtf these two wizards are fighting ? us dragons never did that hooman thing " or he was" oh ok this wizard was friend not a foe but that other wizard pranked him and wanted us to kill each other."
Awesome stuff, I also really appreciate the time you took at the end to add so many death scenes that would have taken quite a bit more time to get to and capture.
this was the game that "inspired" Diablo to not say ripped off because D1 originally had this combat before they changed it per metzen and morhaine's idea
I completed this on the Amiga many moons ago, and have favourable memories of the graphics and atmosphere, despite limited sound. Had since forgotten about it, so will enjoy watching this. Thank you!
Appreciated the death outtakes at the end. Always love watching a playthrough of this, especially the Genesis/Mega Drive version. Music, mood, and I love the concise story. I don't think lacking the deaths would have made it better, you needed consequences like that hanging over your head at every turn, I think. Still love this game all these decades later
A true favourite of mine as a kid. There was nothing else like it at the time, and its so unique you could say there hasn't been anything like it since. The death scenes, and the incredible music are real standouts. So difficult, but so memorable.
Well Played. Combat based on stamina-management, loads of unpleasant ways to die very easily, story explained through bits of hints.... Starting to sound like a 16-bit Darksouls
8:50 I use the whisp to kill the two enemies in front of the door and the spore to kill all the enemies inside the room 18:30 you can slash the enemy relentlessly at this point cause there fatigue is so high they won't have the speed to interrupt you
For as clunky as it can be, I've always loved this game, and the fact that I could actually beat it made it even better. Nothing quite like cutting a goblin's face off.
I have to say this is a very good version in its own right. I loved the Amiga version, especially how the sound and music played into the atmosphere. The problem was it was hard as F and the load times were excruciating even for 3 1/2 floppy standards.
Back when EA actually tried making decent games instead of making billions off brands and over exploiting franchises until they weren’t worth their weight in sand.
interesting game, I had a sega genesis but I guess I overlooked this game. I would have really enjoyed it back in the day. The combat has the same sort of style of the Quest for Glory series. They were a 90's DOS adventure games if anyone knows them.
I was one of the unfortunate ones that played this when it came out. Ignorant 10 year old me going to the corner store to rent a game to play for the weekend. When people think hard game they shouldn't think the souls games. This is the every move you make could be the last game, how is that giant worm that early in the game?
This is like a combination of the old Diablo and Final Fantasy games mixed into one. I never knew this existed, and it looks good. Thanks for the upload!
I still remember laboring mightily over the spider hallway, the barrel raft, the end fights, and for some reason I got hung up on the "clockwise, three rings" puzzle.
Ive remember playing this game on the Sega Genesis emulator, The Immortal is def a hidden gem of game on the system the game reminds me alot of Dungeons & Dragon, Daggerfall n the old man reminds me of Gandalf
Here's an old interview (1984) with the designer Will Harvey about his music making program for EA: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1LEn94TF1tg.html
I played this soooo much as a kid, I even had like, a little pewter wizard, a little wooden box with gems and scrolls n coins in it, I like tried to replicate scenes from the game with those little items lol one of my all time fav genesis games. My friend got it for his nintendo and we played it, and the graphics sucked, so we went all the way back to my place and played mine. lol
What the heck sort of wizard has to rely on scrolls to cast spells? Mordamir can seemingly cast spells by his will alone. The player character here seems like he can only use magic freely by hitting someone with a staff, and he has to rely on a knife (or short sword?) as a backup weapon.
Wonder if this Will Harvey fella ever involved in another videogame development. The way how he slammed his name on everwhere like the good ol' genious kojumbo did makes me feel like he was proud of this, and it must have kept him going for the same route.
I don't think I would have enjoyed playing this but it was a really cool story and I really enjoyed the journey and the style/format. it's really inspiring me to want to make a similar sort of game. also, It made me feel young!
I never played this game, but I do remember the thumbnail for this video being on every single issue of EGM for the longest at time. Great that after all these years, RU-vid allows me to view the game. It’s looks pretty good for being such a early genesis title.
