While on my playthrough, I witnessed Uncle say that in that campfire conversation. Personally, I read all the time; books, comics, and friends and others would tease me or wonder why I like reading so much. My Dad once told me that reading can poison the mind. At the time, I took it as the same boring teasing or "breaking balls"😒. I was reading pro-left and even "communist" friendly reading material, so now that I'm older, I get it. But pretty much, ANYTHING, can have a very negative, insidious effect on the mind, be it books or other forms of media. Now, I lean towards right-wing, conservative viewpoints. But if one is not careful, one can be infiltrated with "poisonous" ideas in that, too. Anyways, what I'm trying to say is that despite Uncle's very questionable ways, he can be wise also. A blind squirrel can find a nut every once in a while and all that whatever, whatever...

Evelyn Miller = real main antagonist of the entire RDR series confirmed

I think, going back to when he mentioned RDR3, that you could only do RDR3 one of three ways. One you move away from the van der linde gang entirely (my least liked idea) two go back to the very beginning of the gang, before John and Arthur so probably going back to the 1860’s or early 1870’s and play as Hosea or Dutch (because I assume they started the gang together) and the game ends when they first recruit John or Arthur into the gang (whoever joined last, probably John?) or option three you go back to the late 1880’s or early 1890’s and play through the middle years of the gang as Dutch while they were in they’re prime and the game ends with us playing (and finally seeing) the blackwater massacre. This option is what I personally think will end up happening. I think after two games of hearing about the massacre it only makes sense for us to play it through in the next game. The only other thing I could think they would do is have the game end after some kind of event, a heist maybe or maybe “the fire” Arthur mentions in his journal, with someone (probably micha) mentioning a big boat loaded with cash coming into blackwater, so we don’t actually get to see the heist. But that’s just my opinion on what I think are the only logical choice’s and obviously I’d love to see either option 2 or 3 for RDR3

The problem with all these theories about the plot of the 3rd game is that everyone misses the most important part, the main theme of the game, REDEMPTION. John and Arthur both have very powerful redemption arcs, those ideas are great but how do you incorporate a redemption arc?
@1vandread
@1vandread 2 месяца назад
@@nickspencer1220maybe there doesn’t need to be a redemption arc. Call it Red Dead Damnation.

The quote from Dutch when Milton comes into the camp is one of my favourite in the game, it always came off as very intelligent and insightful, a little too much for Dutch, when I found out he pulled the quote from Evelyn Miller it genuinely changed the way I think about Dutch

It had the exact opposite reaction from me outside that first bit that there is no civilization but the rest of the quote felt like Dutch was speaking out his ass

9:34 Something interesting to consider as far as literacy rates go in America. The literacy rates of America were thought to have fallen dramatically from the Civil War era until 1900. During the Civil War, it's estimated about 8 out of 10 Confederate soldiers could read and/or write and about 9 out of 10 Union soldiers could read and/or write (source: Ian Delahanty, "Soldiers' Diaries and Letters"). And this pans out with the surviving amount of written correspondence and personal writings we have from both sides of the conflict. And the majority of these weren't from educated officers, but rank and file soldiers. It's actually a shockingly high literacy rate. By 1900, however, it had fallen to an estimated ~11% literacy rate. The difference is that more and more women were becoming literate. Things that helped contribute to the lower literacy rate was drastically increased immigration, the aftermath of the war itself and basically losing a generation and much of the South needing to be rebuilt, expansion west and populations driving out to more rural areas, economic hardships, lack of institutions/infrastructure, etc. So someone slightly older like Arthur, Hosea, Dutch, etc. being educated is more of something to be suspected than not. Whereas virtually any kid in 1900 you came across, especially in the rural areas, would be working and likely not getting much of an education. It's vastly... vastly... understated in historical education how disastrous and how much of a setback the Civil War was to America. It easily set back American progress by 20-30 years. Easily.

It’s no wonder to me that Dutch worshipped Evelyn Miller. Both men had a habit of vomiting up absolute word salads all the time. Never trust someone who talks all the damn time while never actually saying anything.

Yeah he’ll be reading a book and he’ll say something he definitely just absorbed out of the book. It’s like he takes his entire personality from Evelyn

Evelyn Miller is based on Ralph Waldo Emerson and his Transcendentalism movement.

Dutch reminds of people who use religion to justify their sins. Evelyn Miller is a guy driving himself crazy to reach his peak in creativity. Dutch is drawn to his writing because Evelyn writing fits his world view and to miller it means nothing but to dutch it means everything and he could use it to get people on his side
