In England, there are now 19% fewer Teachers of the Deaf than in 2011. And with half of Teachers of the Deaf predicted to retire in the next 10-15 years, this shortage will only get worse.
The Department for Education have published a SEND Improvement Plan that includes a new apprenticeship to train more Teachers of the Deaf.
