I agree, the earlier Hulk movie (with Eric Bana) illustrated his strength increasing better than this movie. Tearing apart a Humvee is nothing compared to tearing apart and/or tossing an Abrams tank. There was also that Talbott scene where the Hulk got angrier and busted the adhesive concrete he was covered in.

What the complaining fanbois don't think of is if the Hulk is too powerful, there's no challenge. That's why DC had to invent Kryptonite, because Superman had become so strong & invulnerable the stories suffered.

@@Caseytify no there are absolutely challenges for the hulk beings like thanos for example and he can get beaten or knocked out or changed back to banner well before his rage builds his power up too crazy ....has happened more than a few times in the comics. he also has his I'm going battle with banner which is his biggest challenge and the only person he fears is banner what fans want is the character to have the base traits and be true to the comic book version. as far as I can remember I didn't see hulks attributes increasing with rage... which is literally his key attriubute it would be like portraying thor without mjolnir or without lightening abilities .... a bit weird hard-cores are probably also a bit miffed that he got mcguffined somewhat because they didn't have the right to silver surfer and needed someone to play that role in ...(minor spoiler)................................. infinity war it was it is. the main reason seems to be that they don't have hulk solo rights and therefore wouldn't want him centre stage anyway since he can't have his own movie

There are these short-films in the MCU called Marvel One-Shots. They're quick and kinda funny. I'd strongly reccomend watching at least "Marvel One-Shot: The Consultant": it helps explain something about the final scene of this movie. Here's all the one-shots and when to watch them: - *A funny thing happened on the way to Thor's hammer* (right before or after THOR) - *The Consultant* (right after THOR) - *Item 47* (right after THE AVENGERS) - *All-hail the King* (right after IRON MAN 3) - *Agent Carter* (not to be confused with the TV show, after THE AVENGERS) - *All-hail the King* (right after IRON MAN 3)

"Clueless" "10 Things I Hate About You" Both are elite-level RomComs; I am very confident you'll love them. The first introduced me to Paul Rudd. Both are, interestingly, adaptations of classic works: "Emma" for "Clueless" (pretty sure "Emma") and "Taming of the Shrew" for "10 Things I Hate About You" also... I don't want to throw too much at you, but a couple more: "A Knight's Tale" with Heath Ledger, Alan Tudyk... again, coincidentally adapted from a book ("Canterbury Tales"); it's a blast, very fun movie. and "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" is a classic. Incredibly well crafted movie that blends cartoon characters with real life actors in a noir setting.

I think one of the reasons this only did a quick overview of Hulk's origin is that there had already been a TV series and non-MCU movie for the Hulk so a lot of people (especially US audience) were already familiar with it. Iron Man, on the other hand, had never had more than animated kids cartoon shows at most, so many people were not familiar with that origin.

Exactly! Having already made the Ang Lee Hulk, and the 70's TV series, (not to mention those who were familiar with the comic books), a good number of people (the majority?) already knew the origin story of the Hulk, so there really wasn't any need to show it again here. For the few who didn't know, they get a quick synopsis in the opening credits. This was a mistake made in the Andrew Garfield Spiderman movie - everyone already knew the origin story of Spiderman, so there really wasn't any need to show it again.

The Ang Lee 'HULK' is not related to this movie. Both movies are inspired by the television show, as the comics had an origin in the 60's based on Gamma Bomb research. the television show and The Incredible Hulk leave the Gamma Bomb out of the history and are tied to Gamma radiation used in medical research. The 'super soldier' serum that Blonsky and Ross are talking about was the military's attempt to recreate Dr. Erskine's super soldier formula that was used to make Captain America, and then lost. They tried using Gamma radiation in place of the "Vita-rays" and it ended up turning Bruce Banner into the Hulk, unleashing all of his repressed anger from his childhood and his abusive father, personified as a giant green rage-monster. Blue gives a different variation of it to Blonsky, turning him into the Abomination, who, while twice as strong as baseline Hulk, does not get stronger the angrier he gets like Hulk does, which is why eventually he gets beaten. It's said that there is no upper limit to Hulk's strength, due to his capacity for infinite rage. There's something to be said for that side of him though. While it's tragic that the thinking, rational mind is wholly subsumed by the Hulk... there's also freedom in just FEELING that anger, and forgetting about anything else. Just let it all out, and stay out of his way.

Small bit of trivia a lot of younger people don't catch. The security guard who accepts the free pizza from "Dr. Banner" in the middle of the movies is Lou Ferrigno. Lou Ferrigno was a body builder who won Mr. America and Mr. Universe several times in the 1970s. In the United States, "The Incredible Hulk" was a television series from 1978 to 1982 in which Ferrigno played the Hulk. Because CGI was so primitive back then, they would essentially just cover the heavily muscled Ferrigno in green pancake makeup to turn him into Hulk. Pretty funny nowdays to watch those old episodes.

To only echo what has been said in this thread, that was Lou Ferrigno; the original Incredible Hulk, as the security guard who Banner has to bribe with the medium cheese pizza to get in. It’s one of a few references to the TV Show. The others were: - Banner watching a clip from the show “The Courtship of Eddie’s Father” and seeing Bill Bixby. - Culver University; where Banner worked on the experiments is a nod to the pilot episode of The Hulk series where Banner worked at the Culver Institute. - Banner saying “Don’t make me hungry. You wouldn’t like me when I’m hungry” is referencing the famous line from the pilot and reused in every opening of the series: “Don’t make me angry. You wouldn’t like me when I’m angry.” - One of the two students who were witnessing Hulk’s battle with the Army was Jack McGee, a reporter for the college newspaper. McGee was a character in the series who pursued the Hulk from place to place.

The reason you couldn't find this film on Disney+ is that Universal hold the rites to the Hulk so only that studio can make solo films for the character. That's why going forward the Hulk only appears in team up films with other characters.

They blazed through the "origin story" because of all the Marvel characters, Hulk's story has been retold most often onscreen. (Spider-Man comes a close second, and without spoiling anything the MCU finds a way to jump past his origin as well.)

A lot of people like to write this movie off because they replaced the Hulk actor, or they don't like the visual style, or they don't like the writing; any number of reasons they have to say its bad. But I really love the Hulk as a character and his history in the comics, so I can appreciate the things the movie does while overlooking its faults. And I really like seeing someone like you react to the twists and turns and enjoy the movie for the first time. Great video :)

I recommend adding *Marvel's Agents of SHIELD* to your MCU watch. It starts after IRON MAN 3. If you want to really synchronise it with the films, he's a little guide (since some episodes may contain spoilers for some of the films): - *IRON MAN 3* - SHIELD Season 1 (Episodes 1-6) - *THOR: The Dark World* - SHIELD Season 1 (Episodes 7-16) - *CAPTAIN AMERICA: The Winter Soldier* (this movie has a drastic and direct impact on the plot of the entire SHIELD show) - SHEILD Season 1 (Episodes 17-22) You may watch *GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY* here or at any point during SHIELD Season 2. - SHIELD Season 2 (Episodes 1-19) - *AVENGERS: Age of Ultron* - SHIELD Season 2 (Episodes 20-22) - *ANT-MAN* - SHIELD Season 3 (Episodes 1-20) - *CAPTAIN AMERICA: Civil War* - SHIELD Season 3 (Episodes 21-22) You may watch any of these - *Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2* - *Doctor Strange* - *Spider-Man: Homecoming* - *Thor: Ragnarok* - *Black Panther* At any point during SHIELD Season 4 and 5. *AVENGERS: Infinity War* takes place after SHIELD Season 5. The last 2 seasons of SHIELD (6 and 7) can be viewed in any order with - *Ant-Man and the Wasp* - *Capatin Marvel* - *Avengers: Endgame* (Although they chronologically take place before *AVENGERS: Endgame)*

You have probably already found out these things, but just in case you have not... In every MCU movie there is a cameo appearance of Stan Lee to watch for. Stan Lee was the force behind Marvel Comics for most of its history. Google him so you can recognize him. It is always a treat to see him in each film. It is such a pleasure to contemplate how blessed he was to live long enough to see his stories come to life so realistically through the magic of CGI. Also, in this movie, you may remember Banner disguised as a pizza delivery guy and giving an extra pizza to a big security guard. That security guard played the hulk in the hulk tv show back in the late 70's/early 80's.

Yes, release order is the way to go for a cohesive story. Always look for the ending credit scenes. Some movies have more than one ending credit scene so always watch them to the bitter end. Hulk will tell you "The madder Hulk gets, the stronger Hulk gets." To his simple mind, this is true. It's almost accurate. What really happens is the more you push Hulk's metabolism, the stronger he gets, and his anger goes along with that. Calm him down and the opposite effect happens. He weakens until he turns back to Bruce Banner. The Abomination is stronger than base level Hulk, but as Hulk fights on, his metabolism is getting pushed. The only way to physically beat Hulk is to knock him out fast before his metabolism gets pushed . Note that it takes a lot to be able to knock out the Hulk.

Sorry if someone else mentioned this. But I'm pretty sure the reason they didn't spend much time on his origin is because 5 years before this movie, there was another hulk movie, where he became the hulk. It is not related to the MCU, but they probably assumed most people who would watch this, had seen the other one, so they skipped the origin.

The reason this movie didn't spend much time explaining how Banner became Hulk was because there was a hulk movie not long before this. It's not officially part of the Marvel Comic universe, but they didn't want to just remake that movie, so they covered the basics of Banner getting his powers in that opening montage. The reason this isn't on Disney+ is because the Hulk's rights have been messed up for a long time. IIRC Marvel has distribution rights for the Hulk but not production rights, those are with Universal. So they can (and will) have Hulk in other people's movies, but if they want to make a Hulk movie they have to have Universal do it (and if Universal wants to make a Hulk movie they need to have Marvel distribute it), which takes all kinds of legal wrangling to make happen. And since it's not made by a Disney company, Disney's not going to put this on Disney+. You should definitely watch them in the order they were released. The entire thing is one continuous ongoing story. They jump around in time a bit here and there (Captain America's first movie takes place in WWII, and Captain Marvel's is in the '90s) but each one is part of the overall story. This is after Iron Man and the "we" that Tony's referring to in the end Credits is SHIELD and Nick Fury's "Avengers Initiative" mentioned at the end of Iron Man.

So the reason you got the Hulk so fast is there had already been a Hulk move several years earlier. So instead of rehashing the character's origin, they just did a recap during the opening credits, following pretty closely to the previous movie, though the two movies are not actually related.

Tim Roth's character (before he goes full monster) is using a variant of the same serum that created Captain America. For various reasons (which would be spoilers, so I'm not going to go into it) they lost the serum and the formula for it. They did have some examples - but nothing pure. So until he goes "Abomination" he is stronger and faster than a normal human. Just BARELY into the realm of "superhuman". But he also has less emotional control and is becoming more savage - which may be a reflection of his true inner self. But may also be because the serum isn't perfect. The Abomination monster starts off more powerful than the Hulk, because he's inherently savage. And Bruce is inherently peaceful - just with anger issues. But - the angrier Hulk gets the stronger he gets. So by the end of the fight between Hulk and Abomination, he's actually far more powerful.

Did you notice Stan Lee near the beginning of this? He's in most of them for a brief shot. And yeah, he made heroes, that turned out to be people who learned what "good" is, and they have powers. This movie isn't on Disney Plus because the film rights for the Hulk are owned by Universal and they also have distribution rights. Disney Marvel and Universal did make this film together, but it won't be on Disney plus unless they strike another deal together. That's also why there was no Hulk sequels because while Disney Marvel can feature the Hulk in movies with other characters only Universal could make a solo Hulk movie due to the film rights. It may have reverted back to Disney last year though, I'm not sure.

Some of the details that stand out after you can slow down the opening credits... {I saw it in the theater first, bought the dvd later] The memo from Nick Fury concerning the Red Alert has the Incredible Hulk fleeing the Hulkbusters since the 80's. Stark International had been fulfilling military hardware contracts including the sonic cannons since well before the first Iron Man movie. Imagine if the technology had been refined and miniaturized down to what Obadiah Stane used on the Ten Rings and Tony? The experiment that Banner and Betty Ross were working on had callbacks to the opening credits of the television show in the 70's. The glowing eyes when he was triggered in the movie in Brazil is a direct callback to the show. Betty's father had spent the years since the accident earning promotions while chasing Banner like Moby Dick was chased by Ahab. Betty had been under constant surveillance through the years as well as countless others who would be familiar to readers of the comics. She had been able to heal and complete her academic career, landing full circle at Culver University. Some details that I did not see in the reaction : The students who watched from the tree as Hulk went against Blonsky and the Hulkbusters were named after the reporter who hounded the Hulk across the country in the tv show, and a short time sidekick of the Hulk (and cousin to a future MCU character). The guy dating Betty was Dr. Leonard Samson. He is a psychiatrist, and informed the General when Bruce showed up. [In the comics, he researched Banner/Hulk and separated the two. The mindless Hulk escaped, and Samson transformed himself into Doc Samson. Instead of green skin he had green hair and a bodybuilder physique.] All of the pains that Banner went through to keep the Army from gaining his research and the actual Hulk would be instantly wasted if Ross had ever known about Dr. Stern. In the comics, this would become The Leader. The mental nemesis of the Hulk, while Abomination was the physical nemesis. There was a deleted scene from this movie that gets mentioned in a future MCU release. We will mention the details then.
