Thank you for highlighting the phenomenal Sepp Kuss. He has long ridden quietly in support of the JV superstars, and it's time the world took notice of this young man. Hopefully Vuelta 2023 has given him the confidence to realize he is more than just a super domestique and he decides to perhaps step into the GC leader role. If his comfort level is to stay a domestique that's OK too. He is still AWESOME!!!

First, I LIKE Sepp Kuss-he’s a strong rider…but to say he “deserves” to win is just new age kumbaya nonsense. Vingegaard or Roglic were both stronger this Vuelta, and it was obvious they LET Kuss win. Argue all you like, but Kuss wasn’t even the best rider on his team, let alone the best rider of the Vuelta. I can’t believe he actually thinks he’s the winner, but I hope he enjoys this Tour victory since it will be his last.

Great comment, thank you, I think Sep Kuss is a great rider overall, he has done a great domestique work since he is riding to Jumbo by helping Jonas and Primoz to get victories in the the grand tours like France and Giro and I think he deserves the championship title of La Vuelta regardless his team mates return back the favour. On the other hand because Sepp looks like a great guy, he has shown humbility and profesionalism, great spanish speaker and like often to share his victories with the people and fans by doing the high five, something remarkable that a few riders don't.

I think the only missing piece for Sepp's arsenals is his speed in flats and ITT. Currently, he is not considered as one of the fastest in this category even so comparing to Jonas and Primos. but I hope we can see him improve in this categories

Here's the facts. He got more time in the breakaway than they could claw back. He defended his jersey with the best ITT of his career. He then defended his jersey on Tourmelet being the strongest rider on the mountain. The only reason Jonas even got time was because team strategy allowed him to go up the road. Kuss's role was to wait for UAE to chase and then suck the wheel, that never happened, so he launched. He then defended his jersey on Angliru, chasing to protect time on what ended up being the 2nd fastest Vuelta summit. He had 1km of the entire Vuelta where he didn't look the strongest rider. That's it. He was in the lead after the hardest mountain in pro cycling. And the only person who can drop him in Linares is Remco, so the race for GC is over. The champion is the one that has the fastest time at the end. Kuss did everything necessary so far for that to be him. And he did it with 2 fewer domestiques than any other team's GC contenders.

GC Kuss is clearly alive right now. As for other tours, though, now that he has more confidence it seems to depend mostly on his ITT skills. Unlike Remco, Jonas, Tadej and Roglič his body isn’t very well suited to TTs. He’s said in the past that this is one of the reasons he chose not to become a GC rider himself as trying to improve his TT skills was no fun. Will be interesting to see if that has also changed now he’s seen how this might be a decisive factor for what he wants to do next, given how he’s grown into the leader’s jersey in other respects these past two weeks.

GC Kuss has now shown he can win without having a Sepp Kuss to support him. I just wish people would stop saying 1) that he’s only in the lead cos he got lucky in a breakaway. Not true. TJV put half their team in that breakaway precisely to bump up Sepp’s GC position, and for him to win the stage; 2) that he was betrayed/stabbed in the back on the Angliru, cos that’s not what happened. As Remco predicted, what did happen was that TJV consolidated their podium sweep by almost tripling the time distance to no 4 in GC Ayuso. Sure there’ve been some conflicting interests for them to work through since the ITT especially, but TJV does this better than the rest of the WT teams. That’s one of the main reasons they’re so dominant.

That is bu11sh!t. Primož has been preparing for the Vuelta since May, i.e. since the Giro was finished, where he won. Kuss and Vingeggard did not prepare specifically for the Vuelta. Primož was the best prepared, certainly much better than the two. And if it were normal, if Remco hadn't kneeled down so infamously and if he would have continued to be a real competitor for the win, then Jonas and Primož would have shown their real cards and their strength. But then again, Primož was extremely strong, and could easily win. Seppi is extremely likable and we all wish him victories, but in the real world he would never win a Grand Tour with Rogla, Vingo, Remco or Pogi alongside him. If someone doesn't understand this, then the only thing that is clear is that they either know nothing about cycling or are turning a blind eye to bias.

Now after doing this video, you should highlight the pletora of other domestiques throughout the years, all who were way more accomplished than Kuss and prevailed through even worse competition, compared to Kuss' competition being his own teamates. Speak and advocate for the Grand Tour they should've been gifted. The idea of Kuss riding well for his leaders so they owe him ? nothing more selfish, that's his duty. theirs is to win. If he wants to rival them, leave just as all the former domestique turn leaders did. Keep in mind, most who did this still failed to win. Kuss is FAR behind and has alot more to accomplish before he should be "owed" anything more than a salary/stage win by any team.

Good video, I honestly don't think the attack on Angliru was an attack on the leaders jersey, since the team wouldn't want that and Jonas commented afterwards that he didn't want to stab his teammate in the back. Altough it did look weird but I think it had more to do with Landa than Kuss since they came in together.
@rdklkje13

It was about consolidating the podium. They almost tripled the distance to Ayuso in 4th (went from 1:00 to 2:52). Helped by Soler and Almeida who really screwed over Ayuso, even more so than the rest of this tour. In the moment it was hard to tell if Sepp was going to crack for real. If not, he could probably have come back without Landa. If yes, Jonas and Primož both staying with him could’ve cost the team the victory in Madrid. Did Landa save him from fully cracking? Personally I don’t think so but the footage isn’t clear enough to be sure.

He's an excellent climber, who chose the way of a career domestique out of preference (while being extremely well paid for it), and now finds himself about to be gifted a Vuelta trophy by his buddies. I like the guy, but that's about it. Not exactly a Roglic Ski Jumper fairy tale as far as that goes, is it? I fear the biggest legacy of his career will be proving that Twitter outrage mobs can decide GT winners at will, as long as they shout loudly enough.

Nothing but facts spoken. People need to respect heirarchies of power. If Vin/Roglic was incapable, it would've been completely understandable. But they're forced to pass this opportunity. Imagine telling your 2x TDF Champion, 3x Vuelta 1x Giro Champion,"Hey, sit up, protect/wait for Kuss, he deserves this more than you guys do". Roglic who would've tied an all time record, Vin would've 1 upped Tadej with GC wins, both statements being so much more grand than saying "I rode for my leaders so they gave me a vuelta". Shameful on behalf of their sponsors and an insult to the testament of their leaders who sacrified and displayed alot more than Kuss can ever dream to at his age.

@@joshtylordasilva1183 Vingegaard, at least in public, seems to be OK with Kuss getting it, but then again he's also 26 and will probably get other chances (though you never know, just ask Bernal...). Roglic... He seems pissed, and I don't blame him. He's 33, and being asked to act as a domestique when he has a shot to tie Heras' Vuelta wins. And not only that, his management bait-and-switched him by saying they could ride to see who was strongest, only to instantly change their minds and backtrack because Twitter got mad at them. If I'm Roglic, I'm telling my agent to go have a chat with Ineos, Bahrain and Lidl-Trek... What annoys me the most is that the people shrieking don't even seem to have appreciation for just how much Jonas and Primoz are being asked to give up. And instead of giving them any credit for doing so when the team told them, all they get is hatred and ingratitude from the Chris Horner viewing mob.

Sepp Kuss is a great climber and amazing domestique. That’s pretty much it though. Normally he wouldn’t be good enough to win a grand tour because he’s not a great time trialist. He got lucky in the Vuelta by gaining time in a breakaway because if a miscalculation by his rivals and he ended up hanging on because his teammates decided not to pass him at the end. Also Jonas could have gained more time on him if he wanted be he didn’t. On Angliru for example Jonas didn’t take a turn with Roglic. They would have gained much more time.

@@user-no5bg9gl2y It's a hybrid sport, not comparable to solo sports like tennis, but also not comparable with true team sports like football. It's a team sport with individual winners, where management sets the team up the maxmize the potential of the strongest individual riders, ie. the captains. To that end, team members are hired specifically for their ability to assist their stronger and more talented captains, and maximize their chances of personal victory. These are called "domestiques". Strong teams are very important - but if you go through the winners of the Tour de France, you'll have a much, MUCH easier time finding riders who won the GC because they were the strongest, but didn't have the strongest team (example: Pogacars first TdF win - his team was borderline irrelevant), than you will finding examples of GC winners who were clearly weaker, but did have stronger teams to compensate (example: uhhhhh, Oscar Pereiro Sio? Most examples here are gonna be pretty flukey). So that's the factually correct answer. A hybrid team sport with individual winners, where the strength of the individual has vastly greater potential to influence the result on his own compared to even the biggest stars from a pure and true team sport like football.
