I flew all of these approaches with the autopilot as I think that's the safest way to do this single pilot in actual IMC. So all of the skills in these approaches come from the AP. What I hoped to show were the incredible views that you get to see with an instrument rating.
@@RusscanFLY I'm so excited for you for instrument training. It's overwhelming. I had many times where I was so task saturated that if you'd asked me my name I'd have had to say "stand by". And yet it was fun! And the things you get to do with that rating... Well this video is meant as a testimony to how pretty instrument flying can be! Also if you found this useful you should watch the full uncut approaches that I linked to. Thanks for watching and fly well my friend!
@@RusscanFLY One other thing: this flight I realized that when I push the toga button, I need to do a few things: 1. I need to let it fly for a little bit because it's going to try to communicate to the gps that it's in toga mode. 2. I need to suspend the gps hold sequencing *BEFORE* I try to change to heading and IAS mode 3. I should set IAS *before* I set heading. My point is this: don't use some of the things I did with the autopilot in this video as how you should do it! I'm still learning how to do some things correctly. And as a consequence I have a very quick trigger finger on the AP disconnect button in the event that something isn't going the way I expect.
Not instrument rated yet. I am a new owner of a 1966 Cherokee 180C that is upgraded and IFR. I recently noticed my plane has no static wicks like I am used to seeing on Cessnas. Curious if yours has wicks and if not do you realize any static while communicating in the clouds? I have been trying to eye other similar aged Pipers to see if they are equipped with wicks.
@@KC-pq2dr I've owned 2 Cherokees and neither had the wicks. And i have not noticed any significant increase in radio static. Congrats on your new airplane!
Man, I miss flying in IMC. I had hoped to have my plane IFR capable by now but life always has other plans. Videos like this keep me motivated and I know it will happen eventually!
Yeah, I've heard! But I think you guys have multiple levels of instrument ratings that we don't here. I'm assuming that's because of the weather conditions. I would love to fly in the UK just to experience the difference. Thanks for watching & commenting!
