When you realize that Samal L Jackson also plays Nick Fury. Think about this in that context.

He probably told her that the robot was getting close to destroying the restaurant they were going to.

I honestly believe this scene was added for every husband that had to take the kids to the movies. The best part is the look of complete resignation on his face at the end. Every married man knows that look and has probably used it every day!
