@@robbybee70 exactly that.. They've created this illusionary reality that almost everyone is living in.. It's kinda nuts how the matrix is more or less a metaphorical documentary lol..
I was literally thinking the same thing. Isn't reality kinda ironic some times... But didn't Edward come across like an awesome Human being. Like. One Guy you'd love to just have a Pint with. And have your Mind expanded by. Not often with most American Actors. 😉
Ironically, the JRE team removed the full interview with Edward Norton on RU-vid. You can only listen to the full episode of this podcast and watch these segmented clips.
David Fulcher David Fulcher That is a negative comment that supposes you are speaking to someone who is obsessed with the screen. I have access to a small social group who are preoccupied with their consumerism, their selfishness, and their children who frequently display the same level of self gratification regardless of how it might hurt others. I am increasingly dismayed with the superficiality many people’s lives. A real conversation about things that matter to me, are far too confronting for many. It is difficult to convey context, and I can appreciate your sentiment, but I was replying to someone who complained about the conversation being too long. Mostly I listen to health information, and I appreciate a longform discussion. I complete household and outdoor tasks while I am listening, usually challenging my own understanding about things. I find it very easy to strike up a conversation, but it rarely goes into much depth.
"My Dinner with André" (1981) works exactly like a long-form podcast. Although fictionalized, it scratches the same itch for experiencing intelligent conversation.
My favorite film of all time. A gem that everyone should see, though I wonder how many today could manage the slow pace and intelligent conversation after having their brains saturated with "action" and mind numbingly dumb conversation for so many decades now on TV and in Hollywood movies?
When joe says that thing about certain "people are just waiting for their turn to talk." That's literally a line from fightclub that marla delivers to Edward Norton's character in the movie. I actually think Norton recognized it as well hahah
Same thing can be said about video games. Look at the success of really narrative-driven games, with tons of dialogue, character development and profound themes.
Talk Radio talks AT you, while podcasts talk TO you. You feel like you're a part of, or included in, the conversation. You're not, obviously, in the conversation, but it still feels more like a group participation. Add in media like youtube where you can comment and converse with other listeners and it's a lot more interactive.
Real people, discussing real topics! Listeners tune into your shows because it’s one of a few places you can find genuine conversation about the real world we live in, with no hidden agenda!
hey joe i loved your observation about podcasts being like a conversation. something ive been thinking about a lot is that the "conversation you arent there for" premise might actually not be a good thing. your show is so informative & unbiased that it makes up for it, but the fundamental problem is still there: to most people listening to you feels a lot like real life, better. i cant think of many conversations i have had that compare with yours. with much love, consideration, & admiration, Trenton
I literally was born at an interesting time on the cusp of being a millennial which starts at like 1982 so I'm a year shy of that. So I was 9 when the 90s started so I was a teen when things changed & the internet was this super exciting thing . But I miss sleepovers where we just talked all night or if u wanted to hang out their was no distractions. Like in 2010 when everyone was texting or had alerts to facebook a bunch of us a mixture of family & friends went out to celebrate my cousins bday & everyone there was on their phones texting other people or commenting on fb & it was sad. The irony is if they were hanging out with the people they were texting theyd be doing it to them. So twitter was a way for people to say as little as possible. My kids grandma just face times them now & they are still young enough under 10 that they want to see their grandma but she is all into just face timing. She tries to act 25 so ud think a 70 year old would not be into that. Anyway I was still young enough to see once technology took off it went at a lightning fast pace. I prefer the way it used to be bc as people we are so disconnected. Like my sons bff when I go there the mom is so rude always looking at her phone. It's like ur 10 years older than me what is so interesting that ur face is stuck in ur phone?? I think this was all done on purpose so people are driven apart. The reason why we are so divided is bc of social media.
I don't think Joe even knew he was repeating a fight club line when he said "they're waiting for you to get done talking so they can talk" or why Ed laughed there.
He has had Artie Lange on before. Rogan did a good analysis of Howard after Howard went after Ari Shaffir and Podcasts. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-No2A1LcHdq4.html
And SO MUCH INFORMATION. I had no idea how much I was going to love Dudley talking about hunting or Donald Cerrone almost not making out of a cave dive but I literally treat life and people differently after all my time watching this channel. You’re the man Joe
To the point of growth... it’s like people complain about their fave band’s new album sucking ‘bring back the old stuff’, but when bands don’t renew or grow their material... people also complain! Nostalgia is a lie, that’s why when bands/artists/tvshows try to do comebacks they fail, cause what kids liked back then, isn’t necessarily what they enjoy now... if friends did a reunion... lbh it would probsuck!
Jeez man, is appears there is mot a topic that Ed is not knowledgeable about, and Joe falls into this category too. Absolutely wonderful to listen to these men converse.
There are plenty of people who enjoy watching and/or listening to the long-form conversation and we've been doing it for a long time. In the past few decades before podcasts were a thing we can look to interviewers like Bill Moyers, Charlie Rose, Terry Gross, and Phil Donahue as well known examples who get to take the time to really dig into a conversation with someone and bring an audience along for the ride.
And before Joe Rogan there was a Bill Hicks. Joe Rogan is not a fucking comedian. I can’t name one damn joke of his. He and his friends are no Bernie Mac or Chris Farley.
Stern on JRE being on the other side of the mic would be the best podcast of ALL TIME....we have seen the movie but Joe would get the other stuff out of him
On a plebeiean note, the chef (non-owner) that opens a restaurant often gets fired or quits within 6 months. Non-corporate hellholes, that is. They "break the membrane", then become redundant. Happened several times in my 47-year experience, before you jump my 💩.
Edward norton was so good in some of those movies that I actually hated the guy for a while. I remember watching movies like the Italian job, and rounders (just the ones off the top of my head) and hating the guy. That’s when you know someone is a great actor is when they embody the character so well you almost can’t even distinguish the actor from the character
Wtf? Nothing profound at all towards the conversation at the end. You wasted my time. Only reason I watched the whole clip was because of your stupid comment.
Oh. As a Brit. I was kinda surprised when Edward mentioned 'Peaky Blinders' . And l believe he was eluding too a more Dialogue Character Driven based Drama. Rather than an American style Car Stunts and Explosion cenrtic format. So yeah. I mean. He's worked opposite 'Brando' need l say more. He's an most definitely knows his Craft.
Yeah but they were with typically with people the general public weren't interested in and their were no platforms to save those conversations for people to listen to at thier convenience.
All these comments of fight club and American history X, did anyone else other then me enjoy Edward Norton as the hulk? I think he was a fantastic hulk, probably ny favorite hulk
@@wabbasMEpern Seriously what did he do? Remember, forgiveness is an act of love. Yes, I know, not all things are forgivable. Has Tim changed his ways?
Too be fair most people are accidentally ignorant towards things they have no interests in or don’t care to hear because it doesn’t support what they need in their lives but it sure is annoying that finding someone to have a deep conversation with is difficult since for me everyone just loses interest and the moment I notice their body language showing they had enough it’s just a let down
Met Kinison at one of shows before he hit big, his bits were incredibly funny, and he was cool and likely not high and definitely not drunk after the show. Shame what happened to him.
Not only actually listening (watching) to interesting and intelligent conversations about meaningful topics, but also posting thoughtful comments about them. Thank you, RU-vid. (and also, cue the insipid responses to this comment) It’s called freedom of speech. Enjoy it while it’s here.
