That's a warrior's respect. "Your men fought bravely. Though they are not ours, and we do not mourn their dying, we honor their sacrifice as we would our own men." I didn't think the Necrons capable of such.... _humanity...._
@@cardengixoth6878 It is only in the arrogance of mankind that we would name the reflection of might 'humanity'. Across the Galaxy, it is one of the very few logical principals that persists throughout organic life, regardless of sector, system and world. As such, it stands to reason that even Xenos filth long since distant to life as moons to base organisms, would recall the old logic. The logic of war. Of conquest and strife. Who better to reflect on another's might, than them, born in weakness, than them, who reign over the very stars themselves.
As a fairly new fan of the setting, it's lines like this why I was immediately hooked. I think we can all agree there is some goofy shit in the lore but, as I'm slowly working my way through books, my mind is continuously blown with just how well written the majority seems to be.
Looking back I’ve noticed one thing, Sanguinius kept a *lot* of secrets. From his father, his brothers, from the whole imperium. I think it’s completely possible that meeting the silent king is a secret he kept from EVERYONE, even his own sons.
@Adam he is. Our Gene-Father was second only to the warmaster before his fall. There remains whispers that he shall return to us to lead us back to what we once were and to what we were supposed to become.
If i remember it correct sanguinius can see the future right? Maybe that explains why the alliance happens in the first place because he knew or he saw that only the silent king will honor that alliance
The fact that the silent king actually verbally addressed Dante is an extreme form of respect. He hasn't talked to anyone except to his triarch in millions of years. Now there might be some obscure lore that he did actually speak to others, but its few and far in between. You'd have a better chance of having a conversation with the corpse emperor.
I love how tsundere that initial “invitation” was. 😂 “You’re going to work together with us! And no, it’s not bc we care about you or anything! We just don’t want to see you get wiped out when you could be useful for us against the Great Devourer!”
Sanguinius despite his anger issues was generally a pretty nice guy and the silent king has been all over the place so tbh I really wouldn't be surprised if he was genuinely touched by sangy being nice to him in a reality where shit like the orks are allowed to exist.
Blame the old ones for creating such abomination. Blame the Necron for going to war with the old ones which forces them to create the orc. Blame the C'tan for helping the Necron in the war in heaven.
@@AvatarAang100 and blame the eldar for corrupting the abstract avatar of slaanesh and making the concept of having fun actually dangerous to do in 40k. Ffs
@@AvatarAang100 So is your agument to blame Ye' Old Ones for making Kroks because they needed soldiers to survive against Necrons and their overlords, or blame the C'tan to start the whole thing to begin with? I'm bit confused, because the answer is pretty obvious. Necrontyr were very power hungry and Ye' Old Ones denied them from immortality for a good reason, then they made a deal with C'tan.. boom! We have the Necron. Then they go on a rampage for few million years.. and the Ye' Old Ones are somehow in fault for having to make soldiers to fight for the survival of every living creature, they have cultivated?
@@no_one01-5immortality aside they could've still given the cure for cancer and don't say they didn't have it because they had the ability to make magic space wizards
I actually like temporary team up's like this. It shows how great of a threat the Tyranids truly are that it requires two opposing factions to call a truce like this
Yes i love the nids. And the teamup isnt just any teamup.. i mean the necrons are arguably one of the most powerful races in the 40k lore. For them to team up with another race alone says volumes of the danger of the great devourer. The antithesis to life. Ehh maybe not exactly an antithesis bc they are life too. Malice takes that mantle better because he legit wants to erase existence including himself lol 😅
@@BarakYisrael theyre the only known race to have enslaved their own gods and disabled weapons of mass destruction to prevent total annihilation, pretty fucking powerful to say the least lmao
@@evanpark8434 that doesn’t compare to the device that’s able to super nova a star which could destroy a whole solar system but decides to not use it out of fear and respect for the galaxy
This was actually pretty good story - no lovely-dovely fairy tale, but somewhat grounded and realistic - both sides were prepared to betray each other, but at the same time had grudging respect of their enemy. Even Dante absolutely would not let xenos live, but he would not miss the opportunity to acknowledge worthy foe.
I mean that really isn't betrayal it's offering minimal support to achieve mutual goal and more importantly as advanced as the necrons are they probably had sensors that can detect that bomb so if I was the silent king I would say ya f those guys absolute bare minimum not a single flayer shot more they bring a weapon of mass destruction to a peaceful meeting?
Necrons and Blood Angels team up: Lots of explanation, interesting story, moral quandaries. Trazyn and Blood Ravens teaming up (probably): "Hey Ravens you wanna steal some stuff?" "Trazyn, you crazy son of a b'tch, we're in!"
Now as a parody they need to make a Blood Ravens and Trazyn team-up spin off as a sequel to "the infinite and divine". The biggest magpies in 40k going head to head
Thanks for making this video It really helped shed some much needed light on a very confusing story, and I don't know if anyone else suggested it but I know I did and want to thank you for taking the time to read my comment on the past video and I hope you continue to make amazing content like this.
The silent-king is easily the most likeable faction leader. Supremely powerful, but also empathetic and self aware. He knows that Chaos and The Devourer cannot be allowed to exist. What he does isn’t informed by some grand, delusional ideal, it’s to fix the mistake he made and return the souls of his people. To be fair some necron phaerons and overlords are as batshit crazy as everyone else.
There was also apparently an alliance between the Necrons and the Grey Knights, as they appear to have a large stash of Tesseract Labyrinths. The Clade Callidus assassins also appear to have C'tan phase swords. Both of these organisations were formed in the 30th Millennium by Malcador - the GK codex in which it's mentioned states that relations with the race who provided the labyrinths have since broken down, indicating they were acquired as the result of diplomacy with the Necrons. It wouldn't be beyond the realm of possibility that Malcador might select Sanguinius as an emissary for such a secret mission .
In GK codex there was a fragment saying that those pokeballs were given them by creators, so yeah. Its heavily pointed at some sort of agreement. Probably because both faction REALLY hate warp. So necrons just give them stuff and they done job for our skelly boys.
And this mysterious trader could be no other but Trazyn The Infinite himself, as he surely has plenty of Tesseract Labyrinths to spare and was very active during HH, it is not unlikely he decided to do some trading to get some trinkets easier, while he himself really focused on capturing artifacts from places they may be destroyed quickly in ensuing fights between brethren
@@januszmanczak161 Dont think so, Trazyn is cool but he is not someone who will just go and help others for nothing. It was probaby some Triarch preatorian they didnt sleep as well and travel through galaxy teaching lesser races necron ways of living and culture.
One of the major taglines about 40k I was told that inspired me is - every faction has a reason to fight every other, including themselves, and a reason to work with every other faction. - and that really got me because it means if you’re smart, you could reasonably figure out a way for any 2 factions to work together against another faction. And it adds to much personality and character to 40k
@@karvenman I mean technically - me and my friend 2v2 often and he runs Tyranids. Our lore is that my army (space marines) were fighting 2 other forces, when a hive fleet shows up, and my army is forced to fight the 2 main forces, and avoiding the tyranid force. Kinda like fighting during a natural disaster.
Honestly I just love the idea that even in the grim darkness of the Warhammer universe, that to collapse a bigger threat, factions will put their differences aside to squash some bugs.
No. Humans are a tad better than the Tyranids in their mind. Still lesser but the lesser of 2 evils. Trazyn sees humans as novel, it's not respect it's like appreciating something neat at the zoo for him.
Would be cool if later we had a semi visible shift in the two parts of the imperium Dante in the north being tenuous allies with the necrons , guillermen in the south with the eldar and the lion (who is mostl likely coming back) holding the more traditional imperium in the east or laboring in an eternal crusade.
@@jet_flyer ohhh i see what they are doing, each mayor xenos faction will have some play in each loyal primarch coming back, be going out of their way to do it (eldar) by mistake (Mechanicum?) by thinking they can just control him or something (farsight? Tau? Dark eldar?) to fight them (Orks) , because they missunderstood something (Squats), or Betrayal to the bad guys(Alpha legion) idk, it seems they are going in this direction. its also the most natural considering that the old empire was pretty lenient on aliens as long as they stood out of their way (and did not had a first contact with Mechanicum.. or iron hans)
@@toobig7150 Honestly, I think Alpharius will come back to the Imperium of his own volition, whenever he feels like it. Whether the Imperium accepts him or not is a different question.
I thought at least part of it was - a large part of the story is another Necron giving their account of the story. It's also not quite clear whether Szarekh ever actually met Sanguinius or whether one of his Chronomancers plucked the idea from the Blood Angels' minds.
@@sonicwingnut it would be one hell of an interessting Story Imagine one of the oldest and powerful beings in the galaxy meets the angel of the imperium
@@trazyntheinfinite yeah it would make sense too - Tesseract Labyrinths can be used to perpetually trap demons which means unlike banishment they can't just respawn. The only problem is the timing - it would probably have to be after Signus Prime but pre-siege of Terra. It couldn't be during Imperium Secundus either as if Malcador could speak to Sanguinius they'd have known the Emperor lived. The only other option I suppose is if the Silent King actually confronted Sanguinius and gave him the tesseracts, then once on Terra Malcador took them for his Knights Errant. I guess Szarekh would have reason to do so, Necrons not being a fan of Chaos themselves. The other potential option mind is they were completely unrelated incidents and the tesseracts were instead a gift to Malcador from Trazyn - who probably thought it'd be fun to give some humans a load of pokeballs and see what they got up to.
I could see the Emperor saying seeing the Necron's mask of his son, "I would take that mask. I would take it so I might remember him fondly. I would hear you in fairness and truth in recompense for that mask."
The entire Dante story is amazing and so is the Silent King. The Dante, Devastation of Baal, and Darkness in the Blood are great and give amazing insight to the Blood Angels and even the Necrons and Tyranids. Hope we get another novel after the Seige of Terra series is wrapped up. Edit: I hope we get more Sanguinius before the Heresy with his Legions remaking and the Silent King interaction
"In warhammer, everyone hates each other." Me over here with my Rogue Trader empire of intergalactic community, trade, and diplomacy. "Hm? Oh yeah, the emperor protects or whatever."
It also doesn't make sense for them to speak English xd So I assume it's a "translation" of their talk, and thus there are those human-exclusive terms there
Soooo what you think the necrons* are gunna be cool with just letting the tryannids rip apart every tomb world? Of course their enemies of the neurons. Whats the point of ruling over the galaxy if it's been laid a complete waste of nothing post tryanid gorge? That's like letting someone burn down your house with everything you own in it and being like nah we not enemies bro... the guy didn't ever try to kill me or harm my body, just all my shit.
Also why would the necrons even care about the tyranids? They have no biomass to eat? Only thing I can think is they plan on one day getting their bodies back and don’t want the galaxy scoured clean by the bugs when that happens.
@@eeyun5279my theory is that in their feasting the tyranids will not only destroy tomb worlds but might also adapt to being able to use the living metal of the necrons as artificial biomass. alternatively its much easier and cost effective to destroy a bug nest before it grows too big. they could wait but then they'd have to purge just about every single world in the milky way thus losing resources and then spend even more on top of that rebuilding them
It said that the neurons couldn’t shoot the blood angles because of their speed. But then how did the necrons kill the eldar if their movement was so quick?
Someone should make death masks of each of the primarchs designed to go over the Necron models just to piss off Space Marine players. Imagine showing up and your opponent is flaunting the visage of the primarch your group comes from.
**Spoiler** Ok s,o there's one thing that I love fantasizing about and that I hope will become true in future lore. Basically in recent lore, the chad Ghaz is hunting down Angron, after the daemon primarch somehow killed his long rival commisar Yarrick. And seeing how strong Angron has become recently (the fact that after being banished he can come back to the real world in 8 weeks, the recent destruction he caused where Khorne of all people, intervened directly like the emperor did with Mortarion), I would love to see Guilliman, fighting his brother in a losing battle, but suddenly, a massive "Waaagh!" arrives during the conflict with one angry ork boss shouting "Fund Ya!". Then Ghaz proceeds to jump Angron (megatron and sentinel prime style), saving our favorite blue boy's ass and banishing the red angel for good this time (with some Gork and Mork woodly doo, but this part is irrelevant, it can go however GW intends).
they will never banish him for good. there is too much money to make off of primarchs. and ghaz doesn't have it in him to perma kill daemons that is a very rare thing to happen. he'd have to get blasted the same way if not harder than horus did by the emperor
I mostly just wannt to see Ghaz and Angron fight each other. And I think it would be hilarious if Ghaz said "found ya!" as he spotted Angron on the battlefield.😂
Not everyone hates in 40k. Tyranides are just hungry. Nurgle loves and slanesh is looking for some entertainment. Tau want peace and order. Orks just wanna have some fun and games. One could say that only a few factions truly hate.
The necrons have teamed up with the blood angles a couple times. It was referred to by Dante in the book Dante where he said at that point he worked with them 2/3 times. And all of the times they left peacefully. Which is really cool. All of them against the tyranids.
Thousands of years ago in the future I remember the GW announcement around Necrons and Tau saying that they were effectively introducing the true big bad and an actually heroic species and sometimes I do miss the unknowable, unstoppable, undying legions of the original codex. But the trade of gave us Trazyn and Zandrekh, objectively the best and second best characters in all if 40k, so seems a fair exchange.
@James Williams which may certainly be the case, but that was not the stated intent. Also back in those bygone days the target audience felt a lot more like mecha fans specifically, be that Mobile Suit Gundam or Battletech, than general weebs. The heavy weeb vibes came later.
Hey, just a minor thing; "phyrric" isn't pronounced "feer-ic", it's Greek, so "peer-ic". It's named for King Pyrrhus of Epirus (pronounced PEER-us). Thanks for the video!
Wow! This was so interesting! I know of the time when the Inquisitors and the Tau teamed up, I never heard of this before! I hope of more stories like this in the future!
It sounds a lot like the silent king has some sort of soft spot in his heart for humanity somehow. Like he doesn't necessarily outright care *so much*, but for whatever reason would prefer the human race to still be around when the necrons get their souls and flesh back. Maybe the emperor will wake up at some point and actually help the necrons get flesh back, considering his dominance over the field of genetic engineering and the fact that the imperium as it is regularly vat-grows servitors.
All things considered, I doubt if the warhead would have been enough to permanently kill Szarekh. He probably would have had a backup body somewhere or the palanquin has some op tech to shield him from such attempts.
"who will ever remember the name of a dead human emperor?" hold on, who DOES remember the name of the emperor? does anyone? do the custodes remember? because i dont think i ever heard the name of the emperor, and i doubt the average 40k human knows. as much as this sounds like heresy, the abominable machine has a point.
In Necrons third edition it mentioned that the early Necron lord's were only bronze level. There were believed to be silver and gold leaders, none had as yet emerged..
There was another team up in the Shield of Baal campaign. From Shield of Baal: Devourer: "'We fought alongside the humans at the Silent King’s command once before. The alliance was convenient and ensured his victory there,’ said Ammeg. ‘We wear these decorations as a mark of honour and a reminder.'"
A guy at my store was telling me about that! I tried to get a hold of those campaign books for the video but the cheapest I could find was like $70 on eBay... :(
The Silent King reached out and grasped Dante’s wrist in a remarkably Imperial manner. Then he leaned in with an alien grace that should have been impossible for a machine, and whispered something into the Chapter Master’s ear. "I speak the truth." The Silent King spoke to him. Tycho and I both strained to hear, but the words were lost to the breeze. Dante recoiled slightly, his face a picture of shock and confusion. Then he composed himself, and nodded to Szarekh. And so the alliance was accepted.
I mean, the guy calling out the mindless hive thoughts of humanity is right, but, to be fair, the necrons are kind of like this as well. Anyone that is not high ranking, ie, the foot soldier is without thought or dream of their own. And it's not like the higher-ups of their kind treat them with valor or care either. So it's weird for him not to see this hypocrisy he's spieling about.
The Emperor : "Let me get this staight. You wanted to kill the only dude, the only hope for us to close the rift, starve chaos and kill the Tyranids. A dude that can 1v1 not only a primarch, but a god in certain circumstances, including me." Dante : "Yup. Lol." ".... You fucking moron. And since when was I a xenophobe ?" ".... You aren't ?" "...... Worse than those bananas automatons. All of you."
That's it? That's what everyone is mad about? That was just a temporary ceasefire at best! They didn't even get a Puss In Boots 2 style "we will meet again" scene! This fandom, man. Getting all twisted over basically nothing.
It's a sad story for many reasons. Deep down, under all the drama, culture and pageantry, the Blood Angels really are the nihilists the Necron narrator accuses them of being, willing to blow themselves and billions of innocents up on the off chance it might make a difference. They were too blinded with hate to realise what the Necrons were up to, or to twig their allies were just as willing to screw them over as they were in return. And for all that, the Necrons honoured them, in a fashion. Ultimately, though, it's about a very lonely being who wanted to make a friend with another lonely being, and still hoped to make a connection with them through their children. Szarek knew Dante and his boys were rigged to blow, but he also knew the mask of their Primarch would stop them in their tracks. And he also knew that Dante was key to Sanguinius' long term plans. So, he kept the ingrate alive, while not making it too easy for the angry little git. For all their own scheming and machinations, it's hard not to read The Word of the Silent King and think the Necrons were the better men - not that this is saying much.
Deep inside we all know that THE IMMORTAL EMPIRE is the only faction that is lawful good, they might seem merciless but reality is that they want to save galaxy even after what they have suffered from it, tjey have no interest in doing so but they still "sacrifice" themselves in goal to Save the entire galaxy. They are truthly noble.
I’d say “lawful neutral”. They want to “save” the galaxy for themselves, but they’re willing yo let countless billions die (often by their own hand) in order to secure their control over it.
The VO was pretty good here. The Stormtrooper sounded like an average Joe. This allowed his performance to bounce pretty good off the Kriegian's more despair filled poetry. There is room for improvement in the VO department and it would be cool to have a sort of slight muffle effect for the Kriegian. But you did great overall. Edit How did this get here? I meant this for a different video! But your VO work was great too.
Where is the voice from the Necron from, is it yours but deformed? what program did you use? I find the effect really cool and want to try it out, or is it from some existing source?
Dante is such a cool character and I hope he ends up playing a key role later on like this story says. Although arguably, he already is, having almost as much power as a primarch
I kinda like these small temporary team ups here and there. Shows the power of the tyranids. However, I like them when they are far and few between, like a quick one night stand, you do it and you leave and don't talk about it. I don't want 40K to become WoW where now everyone is allied against this greater threat and hold hands to overcome, koombaya kinda friends. It would destroy 40K as it did WoW.
Wait. Necrons nearly killed the 3rd company. While using only low tier soldier. It seemed the Necrons did not need any help.. I don't get why they had to have an alliance. I only can speculate
It's really hard to argue against quite a bit of the necrons views on humanity alot of thier views are near spot on so for the necrons to think Sanguinius would have been a better leader than the Emperor is very interesting to say the least.
Well... the Necrontir were not assholes. they had a problem went to the Old Ones, they mocked them and did not help them so they went to the C'than and ended as Necrons(What I remember but maybe the Old Ones weren't that bad or they were, or the Necrontir were entitled, all is blurry XD)... the few that retained their souls were a bit bitter but still they are logical, nonetheless they retain some traits of their time as a fleshling which lead them to the path they took, quite different from an Artificial Intelligence that did not originate from an Organic Source. So It does surprise me a bit that the King felt some Kinship with Sanguinius. I mean if they want to go for a more understanding chapter of the Space Marines they would talk with the Salamanders.
I recall reading somewhere that the old ones weren’t assholes. They just didn’t want to share the gift of immortality. When the necron tyre came to them. They denied the necrontyre but were quite humble about it.
@@halfknight2310 I'm old and with dementia, so I mix up things XD, but yeah the Necrontyr were a race that died pretty young at 40 years of life and were physically weak and had other problems, and asked the old ones for help But I do remember the old ones at least be condescending. Also I think they had to deal with the Mind Larva from another dimension invasion(can't remember their name). but in their inaction, the Necrons were birthed.
Hey Wes I've only just started getting into warhammer lore. Watching many of your videos and a couple other youtubers that know their stuff when it comes to lore. But ive gotta say this is by far one of my favorite stories from the warhammer universe. If theres more content like this I really hope to find it on your channel. Thank you for all the hard work and time you've put into telling a story.
Ya know, I actually agree with Szarekh’s decisions here. He was being honest, but he hid his full forces from the fight. At first you’d think he’s a real piece of crap for that, making a lie of omission and convincing the blood angels he was dedicating what he could to help them win, but when you think a little harder, that’s probably entirely true. Humans can always rebuild and repopulate, but necrons are entirely incapable of procreation. All the necrons in the galaxy are all the necrons that will ever exist besides the pariahs, so Szarekh really can’t afford to spare any troops other than the bare minimum required to achieve victory. I honestly believe that despite his actions he really does want a peaceful future
