INFP males are an emotional contradiction. In soceity’s views, the traits of any INFP are generally identified, or stereotyped, as traits associated with women. Sensitive, caring, empathetic, etc.

As an INFP male, this is highly accurate. People often mistake sensitivity and compassion as weakness. The truth is, we are absolutely fearless when it comes defending our values. Its just that we prefer to keep the harmony if we can

It is absolutely our strength. Us who feel strongly, constantly, are so well in tune with our emotions... And we can equally control them well. I like to say "Would you rather want a trained, disciplined soldier in war? Or a novice with a hot head?" Because when it comes to the emotional stage, we are trained professionals.

@briangruenewald7536

As an INFP-A myself, I thought that being misunderstood was one of my biggest fears. Then I listened to a podcast that talked about INFPs and what the host said seemed much more real to me: (paraphrasing) “The INFP does worry about being misunderstood, but it’s deeper than that. In fact, the mind of an INFP is so vast and vivid and imaginative that it can be nearly impossible to truly understand it - even the INFP themselves get stumped. The real fear for the INFP, I believe, is not so much being misunderstood as being marginalized or dismissed.” Those words, “marginalized” and “dismissed” ring so much more true to me than “misunderstood”. For much of my life I felt like I couldn’t have a say in what was going on, that my ideas weren’t good, or others would take credit for something I came up with. Do as your told, and you’ll be fine. As a result, I lost sight of my true self, my inner child. But now as an adult, I got it back. I’m much less afraid of being marginalized or dismissed, and I can actually stand up for myself when I’m not being treated right; and other things that used to terrify me as a kid are things that I can do now without even breaking a sweat. To all my INFP readers out there, whatever gender you are, you have a fire in you. Let it burn bright. Own that flame, and share it with the world. You’re not alone. You can do this. I believe in you.

Yeah, marginalised and dismissed is a more accurate term. I could never really fit into groups unless I had some liquid courage pushing me to be more open, and even then it was a effort since I still recognise invisible lines around 'cliques' that i always feel ward off others and make it hard to approach people. I remember back in Highschool, After the first week, I'd already started grouping people based on what I felt from them. from some I felt discomfort and knew I'd have to avoid them. These guys went on to become the loud mouth headstrong folk with a love for rugby and football that became a grouping of their own. I spotted some quiet kids who I somehow split in two, the ones I could get along with and the ones I couldnt. The ones I couldnt were the ones who turned out to be hardworking silent types. The ones I could turned out to be slightly similar to me and we got along like a bonfire. These were the guys who later turned out to be into novels or anime, or manga, or theoretical discussions. Basically people like me. This was years before I knew I was an INFP, then i read that we only befriend similar paople.

I truly believe that most (if not all) INFPs are actually very confident. But it's a "quiet confidence". When an INFP walks into a room, they don't feel the need to act superior to somebody (which... unfortunately a lot of people do). I love that about us 🤸‍♂️

It honestly baffles me how often I will catch the eye of a girl but instead of being direct about it she'll act like it's middle school all over again and spend too much time trying to "send signals". The majority of girls don't give shy guys the time of day, but when they are the ones lacking confidence it's ALWAYS the "approach me" vibes. I really relate to the chameleon statement. While most people will say I'm a great guy I feel like it's very surface level. While yea I'm very sociable and open, but I still feel invisible. The only times I'm recognized is when I'm extremely kind or compassionate and I sometimes idk how to handle it so I just try to humble myself. Also it has made me a target for manipulation by people I use to trust. I hate this craving for romanticism cause it effects so much of the emotional pain I have. Whether its rejection or unrecognized feelings it just hurts so much. Its something I'm super insecure about because I've never had any sexual/intimate relationship at the age of 23. I just want something more meaningful and someone to comfort me. The last thing that really related to me is always having to mediate family and friends when things get heated and often being torn between them. It's so much stress trying maintain friendships when nobody wants to empathize with each other. Anyways this is a great video and I hope everyone else is doing well! P.S sorry for the info dump! Your first relationship might end up being with someone older. I remember how stupid & shallow pretty much everyone is in their 20s. As an INTJ, I a,ways wished that I had middle-aged (or older) friends or mentors while growing up, since I always had the foresight to see the folly of my peers. I just wanted opportunities to learn and grow, and have interesting conversations. Just keep in mind that we’re attracted to people who are of a similar emotional age to us, so as you expand the range & scope of people you’re exposed to, be age agnostic. You’ll feel a soul-level connection with someone IMMEDIATELY, if they’re meant to be in your life. Wishing you deep, fulfilling relationships during your lifetime. 🙏✨💕

If you’re an INFP male and you just listened to this oddly pleasant robotic voice basically describe the fiber of your entire being, how could you possibly not feel good about yourself? I feel like this video just read off the back of one of those superhero trading cards… you know, the ones with the character’s bio and stats on the back, but the superhero is me! And you! I’m an INFP. I’ve been looked down on and misunderstood all my life, but it doesn’t matter because I stand proud. I’m proud of the innate strengths I possess and the beliefs I hold to be true. Harmony and peace over needless aggression and conflict, check. Heightened emotional awareness and a sensitivity towards my own feelings and the feelings of others, check. True and genuine empathy and compassion towards others, check. Strong values and a strong sense of justice, check. All of those things and more. There’s nothing wrong with being sensitive and having feelings. We’ve developed ways to be strong because we had to, but I suppose that was bound to happen because an INFP cannot naturally live disingenuously. The world is full of men who numb the pain of their feeling or ignore them completely because it hurts too much, so how can it possibly be weak if we were to immerse ourselves in our own feelings, understand them, grow from them and then come out of it stronger? And literally no one does this because it hurts too much. But we do. I don’t know about you, but that sounds pretty damn tough and manly to me. So many people don’t know how to deal with their emotions and so they and everyone in their world suffers for it. If the INFP is a rare breed, then we must live and love fiercely, reflect all of this outwards and shine that light where it otherwise cannot reach. I think doing that will make that world a better place 😉 Anyway this video reminding me of who I am just made me feel really kind of awesome and I hope you feel the same way too. Take care 😎☮️💟☯️

I did a test and found out that I am an infp-t. I have always wondered why people have told me to man up. I am listening to this video and straight away I thought, "wow that is so me". Back in the 1980s before I became cynical, this was definitely who I was. Since then I have had to develop a hard outer casing to avoid being criticized all the time by the stronger personality types. Even my wife who knows me better than anyone else agrees that I am not an easy person to get to know. She says I have so many masks that I don't think even I know which one I really am. Discovering I am an INFP-T personality is so refreshing to finally know. I can start to become more myself and not feel ashamed of who I am. I can begin to let my guard down just a little so I can be who I am meant to be. Does anyone else feel like you just didn't fit in with the rest of the world? As a guy, do you feel you related more to women's ways better than to guys ways? Take heart. That is probably because women are more likely to be INFP than men. Thanks for the video it has been incredibly enlightening. One thing you said is that we are not overly angry people. That isn't exactly true. After years of being bullied and pushed around and treated like crap, I have developed anger issues. However recently because of Covid 19, I have had lots of time to be by myself away from the distractions of the world, and I am finding that people and their well-being matters more than my need to be right.

I found it really helpful to do NLP to re-evaluate criticism from others and myself, and to do a VIA-sure personal strengths finder so I can use those as affirmations on the way to work. Learning to reframe criticism using NLP was life changing as it helped me engage with the good memories and keep the negative ones at arms length so I can remember the content without feeling the powerful negative emotions associated with them.

I think guys in general, especially in more Perceiving types (as an INFP male myself) are pretty absent minded about that stuff. We are more likely to think “I need to go to the store to buy some more tea,” than to think, “I need to go to the store for more tea. What else can I get when I’m there? Maybe my girlfriend would like something?” It wouldn’t be uncommon for us to go to the store multiple times because we forgot something for ourselves, let alone for others. It’s not because we are selfish, it’s because we only really think about anything when it is present in our minds. The moments we do think of someone else without being told are moments we actively put a lot of thought into.

@@kylepickus5712 The good part, though, is that if we notice something at the store that we have lost track of, it usually returns to our mind in an instant (like "Oh, right! We need that as well!") and we act on it.

Being an INFP male, I think it’s important to recognize being insecure and people pleasing…. Saying yes or ok when it’s actually deep down a hell no, can be a struggle. Please consider that balance when observing an INFP being self focused. Because, in the end who is going to really be there for you. Always count on yourself.

For me it’s gotten to a point were I do think of people and often find my self feeling guilty and really want to like to write to the person I’m thinking about but at the same time feeling myself unable to cuz like anxiety n shit. But yea then at the same Time you can be nearly forgotten from my mind for the next weeks or months. And to add to that I often also find myself W/the excuse that „Well I’m almost there, I will write them eventually, when I feel ready“ because of the self improvement and I always feel like I’m almost at a Point were I can deal with this sort of situations. That had keeping me motivated for a long time but it’s also Damn frustrating. But I think I found an approach were I’m still optimistic to tackle all of these problems at once it just needs a lil time and space. I still think you „just“ have to hang in there and you’ll find a way eventually dealing with the things you are struggling with. If someone really did go through the stroke having reading the above I’m sorry would be kind if you leave me a message and I try to edit it to make it a bit more understanding I just fckn rambled way too long and I’m tired I don’t wanna go through that again atm but too much work too not put I out there at this point. As an INFP male, I played QB my whole life. Any team I ever played on, I made good. I played D1 college ball, and got injured two seasons in a row and quit football. Everyone in my life thought I was crazy, but even though I loved playing, I was truly miserable. Everyone on my team always looked up to me, but I felt completely alone and unlike anyone else. Since I quit football, I started singing and writing songs. I was always scared to sing on front of people even though my family and close friends said I have an amazing voice. In the past 5 months, I've written over a hundred songs. I can make a song in 5 minutes. I recently showed my close friends and family my songs, and doing so was a million times more scary than being rushed by a D-Line. However, they all think my songs are gonna make me immediately famous. I'm so excited to have finally found myself after 23 years, and present what I can do to the world. At the same time, I'm absolutely terrified at how I might handle fame and letting the whole world know my emotions and depth. But I'm going for it. If anyone has read this, my artists name is NEX and I'll release my first song in a couple months. Here's some lyrics you might hear one day: "Chasing fading glory, burning chapters to my story... purple skies like codeine, shots for those who used to know me". Wish me luck.

INFP-T guy here. So I would consider myself a semi-dark INFP: I used to be a fully healthy mediator growing up, but a toxic divorce and constantly conflict-filled household made me extremely cynical. I used to feel so deeply and empathized with everyone I talked to. I actually served as my family's mediator when they were all at each other's throats from about 5-18 years old. I think the constant stress and inner turmoil from seeing my family fall apart and turn on each other really screwed with my outlook on life. My idealism and need for fantasy/fiction has become almost crippling at times. It's like I can't fathom the idea of the real world with all of the pain it's inflicted on me. That pain over the years has finally brought me to where I am today: bipolar as hell and can't sleep because when I lay my head down at night there is a never-ending stream of thoughts and visuals in my head that terrify me sometimes. It's seldom that I sleep sober anymore. If y'all got advice for me, I'm all ears. Lord knows I could use any and all help returning to a normal INFP status

The question is, have you gone no contact with your family (or at least parts of them)? Sounds like an extremely toxic place to me for sure, and I'd wager that you could find a lot of narcissism in there. My advice would be to practice radical acceptance of what has happened back then and viciously write that off as losses. You have tried to mediate within your family, but it seems as if it has ben to no avail, thereby leaving you between a rock and a hard place. It may be difficult at first, but it is a vital part for your healing process to start. The problem is, it's easy to fall into the trap of rumination, but it doesn't really help. Dismissing it for what it is actually helps lift that burden from you. I had to do the exact same thing (it became easier to accomplish once I found out that I actually am an INFP-T), especially since I have regularly been haunted by nightmares (if nobody truly understands you and you find yourself subjected to various misconceptions and prejudices, that surely takes a toll on you). However, after radically accepting what has happened back then and finally dismissing everything the nightmares suddenly stopped.

The INFP is a chameleon. This is very true, I found it very easy to fit in many different groups but never totally. This was due to my many different interests. I would play soccer, go to the gym or do combat sports with Alpha males, then talk about books, video games, religion and life with females or more artistic males. My friends became jealous when I would hang out with another group, sometimes they felt betrayed. I never felt it as different masks though, I felt just as comfortable in every situation, I just felt like I was accessing a different part of myself and I am growing in that direction. It becomes a mask when you don't feel comfortable to admit that you also have other sides to yourself. The jokes and banter about being a geek, or an emotional softie, or a useless phylosopher, would usually come from the alpha group. I just told them I have other interests as well, I would accept the banter and laugh along while making jokes about their lack of self control due to not understanding their emotions. They could use that extra depth to their personality. This would go really well, especially because when they were feeling down they would come to me for advice. So being true to myself and not feeling the need to apologize for who I am worked very well in these situations. It didn't feel like wearing masks, more like knowing when not to talk about certain subjects because that specific group will not understand. This was not a big problem though since I had different people to talk to about those other subjects. It was all about learning how to find the proper balance.

While enfj’s may be seen volunteering at a homeless shelter, the INFP would more likely be the one giving a homeless man half of his sandwich. The timid nature of an INFP makes it so they take pleasure in the little acts of kindness more than the large and extravagant. If you want to find an INFP who likes you, look for the one who is always willing to help, but if you say “no, I’m good” they will retreat their offer because they don’t want to push themselves on you. They may leave you a surprise gift, but not be present in the room when you receive it. If around an assertive INFP, they may be more likely to ask questions to you and about you. They will spend most of their time asking you questions only after preparing answers to those same questions in case you were to ask “what about you?” If an answer sounds rehearsed, he could very well be an INFP. A turbulent INFP would likely admire you from afar, but when you ask them a question, the answer will sound short and abstract. Love notes from an anonymous lover would be common. Also, NEVER PLAY HARD TO GET!!! Most introverts in general will retreat as soon as they feel you don’t want them back.

@@Robidu1973 I agree. ENFJ’s are more likely to do grand things for large groups of people, because they want to solve the problems for as many people as possible. INFP’s are more likely to do spontaneous, yet powerful things for a single person. ENFJ’s may work out of empathy, while INFP’s work out of sympathy. This, I feel comes from the INFP’s deep-seated feeling that they know what it’s like to be ignored and/or treated poorly, and that they would never wish that upon anybody else. The acts of an INFP are more intimate and personal while the acts of the ENFJ are more heroic and grand. Like Keanu sharing a sandwich and conversation with a homeless person is an act so mundane, but is made powerful because of how we as a society look at homeless people.

The rest of this is very accurate, I hate being perceived as push over and not masculine just because I'm affectionate, like hell, I'm a skilled boxer and can hold my own thank you very much...though I do prefer to talk things out instead and use physical force as a last resort lol conflict is so cumbersome which is why I prefer to keep my circle of friends tiny, less drama that way and I like to limit my interactions with strangers and mostly keep to myself unless somebody wants to strike up a conversation then I'll talk if its an interesting topic but mostly I keep to myself, I like it that way...less problems more peace, I love my peace. I'd rather make money and lounge around on a beach than fight with people over stupid stuff unless there's some serious injustice and wrong that needs to be made right. I'm definitely going to use my money to help kids in my neighborhood go through college or trades and help them dream of a bright future. It's interesting because I've known I wasn't like my male peers so in conversions about masculinity and the male mindset I usually make it clear that I do not represent men in general I can only speak of myself.

Being a guy INFP really sucks when you are trying to figure yourself out. You are a literal opposite of what a "real man' is suppoused to be like Note that I'm personally really content with where I'm now in my life but I feel like it takes a lot of willpower and resolve to accept your introverted feeling. That also applies to female INFPs. We are always taught that we should talk about our emotions, open up etc. so we may feel like it's "wrong" to try to figure out your emotions on your own but I believe that's one of INFPs biggest strenght. If we push through that doubts, we are the most emotionally independent people because we know how to deal with stuff on our own

I gave up partying, trying to be part of cooler kids groups joining rugby(since I was told I have the body for it). I also gave up on large group outings with friends and friends of friends as well as trying to force myself to show interest in things that just don't seem interesting to me. With every item I dropped I felt lighter than ever. Before I knew my personality type I did feel like something of an outsider, but now I'm just happy with myself, my close friends and my list of likes. Being INFP is pretty cool if you can understand yourself and find your interests. The reason we feel alone is coz other INFPs are also being proper introverts and staying home😂😂😂. Why was I, an introvert trying to get on with Extroverts🤣

I feel so seen.. it makes even more sense that one of my favorite albums is Pink Floyd's "The Wall" - I basically started building that wall literally from the age when I first heard that album at the age of 12. As I grow older, I am less inclined to forgive people, but for almost my whole life I wouldn't have that problem. I rarely would even get mad. I almost make it a sport to point out hypocrisy in people. And yes, I will talk to you about Gustav Mahler for hours if you are interested. (I wonder how many of us hardcore Mahler fans are INFP's). Now I would say we are warm and connect with people but up to a point. Even those closest to me are never completely welcome inside the shell. I sometimes do feel like I will never find my place in the world. It's like, you know you have something to give, you know there's a place for you, but you can't ever seem to find it because of all the "junk" that gets in the way. I've been adverse to conflict my whole life. I will go to amazingly stupid, idiotic lengths to avoid it sometimes. Spot on.

I'd say any INFP can relate. The major problem is that this world is heading straight for a dystopia right now, and by pushing NF types to the fringe of society, that process is most likely going to be accelerated significantly. Thank you for this! This is amazing! I mean, these are thoughts that runs inside my head too being that I'm an INFP Male with a Psychology Background so I understand it in bigger sense and I deeply connect with the words that you said because they're just too relatable. I felt so understood just listening to this. Thank you for creating this and helping others in understanding INFP males, specially INFP Males themselves. Of course we have our own uniqueness apart from being INFP Males. I was introduced to martial arts at an early age and it's something I consider myself as having a better position than most because I treat the science behind the movements or techniques as how I would try to understand my emotions and being able to do this helps me in a profound way. Combined with my knowledge about the human body as well as my work as a personal trainer for fitness and martial arts. I think this is one way where INFP males can develop the confidence in being able to deal with physical conflicts. Verbal conflicts tho, I try to avoid at the peak of emotion and then come back to it after cooling down. Taking that time off or downtime to think and configure my thoughts and emotions helps me in understanding myself and others. As a 27 year old INFP Male, during this pandemic, it is sometimes a struggle to stay mindful of my thoughts and making sure I channel the inner workings of my mind to something more productive like working. specially since the world is on a pause and it is easier for us to be in our heads and simply stay there to be entertained. I sometimes feel like INFPs in general can also seem "Childlike" because of how imaginative we can get and it's easy to get lost to a trance simply by thinking. With that said, I think INFPs often find themselves floating with however life makes it for them because it's easy to be swept away with how life unfolds. So knowing oneself is very important because you don't want fate deciding what your life is going to be, as INFPs, we can sometimes be very passive in sense that we are always in our heads so it's really important to decide for yourself and slowly build atomic habits to act and achieve your goals. If you can feel and think deeply compared to most, you got it and you can figure it out! Cheers to us!

Not only I wouldn't be hurt, I'd be super GLAD to help her with all my being. I told her that but alas. She just didn't get it. The man that I am so in love with is an INFP, and I don't know what it is about him. But it even has me trying to sort through my mind and figure it out. This video reminds me of how in love I am with him. We both consider each other as soulmates, despite how much mess we have gone through. He is an addictive drug An all-compassing cure I am his weakness, he can't be happy without me. He is my strength, I can't be complete without him. There is something about you INFPs that is so intoxicating. I also have soul sisters that are ENFJ and INTP, so that is a GREAT time. I love them so much.

From an INFP male perspective who’s life mate is an INTJ female: My life began to change when I accepted and became proud of my “feminine” qualities - soft, open emotionally, nurturing, need for intimacy, etc. Not by choice, but I’ve only dated or close friendship with highly attractive, ridiculously intelligent, responsible, independent alpha women, mostly INTJ/ENTJ. I am of average looks at best, high enough IQ, but slender build, small frame, and little muscle - in other words, a bit feminine physically. Every time I date a woman she says “you’re not my type but I can’t stop seeing you.” They tell me it’s because they can be “who they really are” with me, they can crumble, they can open the hurt locker and I help them connect to they’re emotions, which are underdeveloped. They yearn deeply for this feminine softness. Many of these women had bi-sexual experiences or curiosity, which leads them to be attracted to femininity. They see the INFP male as having the best of both worlds - emotive softness with male perspective. Being only 1% of men, most women have never seen a INFP male. I’ve been told that my emotional and intellectual depth, writing letters, caring daily, always being a romantic, and intimate sex is what draws them near. However, it’s understanding and living with similar emotional experiences that is the ringer. People want to be around a person who allows them to give themselves a break and “let them be who they are.” The INFP male, once accepting what he is and confident that is exactly what everyone wants to be around and some people “need,” he will become what others can’t - lover, friend, teacher, and, ironically, a hero to people who gave up on their dreams of being loved for who they really are

The biggest problem with being so caring by default is that the vast majority of people aren't worth the effort, time and attention your more than willing to give. Not worth it in the sense that they are the type of person to play games, lie, try to take advantage of you, take it for granted, etc. Apart from that it's an EXCEPTIONAL quality to have and is always something you can be immensely proud of yourself for having/being. Even just thinking about how much you care about certain people can bring you a lot of joy at any given moment.

I usually need clear signs from the woman before I'll make a move. Otherwise I'll be worried that I'm making the woman uncomfortable with unwanted advances (and, of course, I'm also scared of rejection). As for masks, I definitely wore them a lot when I was younger. Yeah, the only reason I lost my virginity is because the female took the initiative. I believe I was 18 or 19. In hindsight I'd been in the position/had the opportunity with lovely interested partners many times. I just never made a move. Some of that was fear based but more so I'd be caught in a whirlwind of thoughts in my head of 3D chess of emotional/situational/long term relationship outcomes of actions and outcomes and..I'm rambling. Yeah, I think we're capable of taking the first step but it's not second nature to us because we are naturally thoughtful, sensitive and caring. Probably to a fault, we get caught up in reading the room and conceptualizing the effects on all parties involved. With all that having been said - I've never put on a false masculine mask to fit in. I naturally find myself with present, creative, open and friendly people.

Toxic ? It’s rare, but can happen if we’ve had a hard childhood with parents/siblings/schoolyard bullies kicking us around. As Introverts iNtuitive Feelers Perceptive, we put much less importance on fitting in with « other guys » than feeling at peace with ourselves, even if the cost is being (forever) alone. As for women initiating things : yes, triple yes. We feel atrociously awkward and false trying to be « flirtatious » as we dont really like to « play » with deep feelings. We take these quite seriously (hence the romanticism we can’t ever shake off, even when older). That’s kind of why some of our best pairings are with ENFJ. They come to us taking care of the playfulness that comes with extraversion, and get us literaly fascinated, the NF connexion means common values, the big picture, and endless conversations. While we’d rather have a girl do the first step, we’ll provide our own dynamic participation in the relationship once we’ve thrown our emotional shield overboard and bared ourselves. That can seem disconcerting to some to see the « quiet guy » suddenly shining. If these steps go well, we’ll love you for life. Even if one day we break up, there will always be a spot there in our hearts for those people who have « seen » us.

Yes a woman that can initiate is what they need. To be honest infp males are often attracted to people who are very wrong for them. Shy and feminine types or the stereotypical cheerleader (which is odd since they're supposed to be one of the deepest types). Their perfect match though really is the ESFJ. What they really need is the mothering and the assertiveness the esfj woman can give them.

As an INFP I believe in people's goodness. However, I'm not naive either; I always try to figure out each individual"s intention. If I sense they're about to take advantage of me I turn around and walk away; otherwise, I help them out. Also, I'm a quite artsy; I value creativity and originality whereas I always try to know myself by appreciating a nice piece of art like an astonished painting, a bestselling book, or a block busting movie. I think that the main issue with INFPs is that they want to interact in such a world they imagine; they don't perceive how the real world is, and this fact may bring them up disappointments of any kind. INFPs need to understand that not anyone values their good intentions as well as they will attract enemies whether their intentions are noble or merciful. A piece of advice for INFPs is that always try to keep their feet on the ground, and if there is something they can change just do it. At the same time, test anyone who pretends to be your friend, because INFPs tend to meet fake good people around.
