You and I travel to the beat of a different drum
Oh, can't you tell by the way I run
Every time you make eyes at me? Whoa
You cry and moan and say it will work out
But honey child I've got my doubts
You can't see the forest for the trees
So, don't get me wrong, it's not that I knock it
It's just that I am not in the market
For a boy who wants to love only me
Yes, and I ain't sayin' you ain't pretty
All I'm saying's I'm not ready for any person
Place or thing to try and pull the reins in on me, so
Goodbye, I'll be leavin'
I see no sense in this cryin' and grievin'
We'll both live a lot longer if you live without me
So, don't get me wrong, it's not that I knock it
It's just that I am not in the market

The issue is with her is that her initial portrayal at the Jokers side is typical, villainous Harley. While the joker is using her, he is only really enabler as she had always wanted to act out and in some senses, was much better at it then the Joker was. Then, she is immediately written like Modern Harley who has the more tragic "abused lover" angle of having always been the victim. It shows a lack of understanding of who she was in that era of writing. I can work with that in the comics as the retcon to her history happened so long ago that she's actually really different to when she was just a villain. Issue is, she doesn't really go through any arc in Injustice. She starts off as a mass murdering bitch *and then* is immediately her more heroic self the moment Joker is out of the picture, without pause or difficulty. Almost as if most writers are just used to her being a semi heroic, more sympathetic character that they can't compared writing her in any other way. Honestly, I think DC has real difficulty in keeping it's villainesses, villainous. It's really odd to see someone like Punchline, who is a horrible woman who uses this to manipulate public perception, a breath of fresh air compared to a lot of the "actually they are much softer inside". I don't dislike Harley, but I do dislike how she's universally used as a good woman, even in universes (Injustice) where it really doesn't make much sense.

Tom Taylor straight-up admitted that he couldn't actually think of a way to turn a normal Diana into Regime!Diana, so he treated her as basically a straight-up evil counterpart from very early on. The Diana in the Injustice Movie feels more like the post-Infinite Crisis version of the character and how she would actually react to the things that happen here. Still a _bit_ dodgy (She's waaaaay too down with murder) but she steps back from the edge whereas the version in the comics and games gleefully skipped over it on her way to try and boink Clark.
@SBaby

She wasn't really a psycho in the comics. She was the one that got Superman to take off the Yellow Lantern Ring (and subsequently destroyed it), and there were several other things she did that were the opposite of being a psycho. It's just that she was loyal to the Regime because her first experience with men ever was her being screwed over by one, validating everything the Amazons said about not trusting them in her eyes.

Exactly. It is also hilarious to see people completely miss it. The ones who hate Harvey, for instance. “No, dum dum, penalizing somebody who saved the world over old wrongdoings OF COURSE is counter-productive to their redemption”….. Some people never get the moral of the stories about redemption. Or weight redemption arbitrarily in years of public service - and even then, look backwards on those that did atone for their sins. People are bitter and vain. To me, redemption is internal. If a genocidal maniac like Plutonian changed internally overnight - so be it. They don’t have to prove anybody how exactly they must have suffered to change - they just did, and that is all that matters. Happy end.

@@Skullhawk13 Yes. It is. Redemption is not about self-afflicted suffering or vengeance. It is about change. Omni-man, for example. All things considered, he redeemed himself gracefully. Redemption is not tipping the scales of the universe and undoing/trying to make up for everything bad one has done. It is about positive change. Otherwise, what you believe is not redemption - it is “checkbook” vengeance/proportional punishment. And redemption is definitely not that.

I actually loved the ending of this movie because Superman sees the error of his ways and surrenders himself. Something I feel the movie did way better than the comic is that they first take the time to make you care about the people in Metropolis before the explosion. In the comic, were only with the heroes. And as sad as it is, barely any time is spend on the residents of the city. But in the movie, they open with showing you all the people in the city being happy and going to work. And when Jokers trap springs, you see everyone looking at their approaching doom. Imo this makes the loss feel much more devastating.

This ending where Superman starts his path of redemption feels much more natural for the character. The main earth Superman likely wouldn't have descended as far as this Superman did, but I don't like how Injustice (game/comic) Superman just didn't hold back. Sure, he had time to steel himself and lose his humanity, but Clark is such a fundamentally good man that it's hard for me to believe that he wouldn't see the error of his ways eventually. Sure, this movie makes quite a few mistakes, but its core theme and characterization of Supes makes it a worthy watch imo.

Honestly I don't know how but you've made me actually feel a bit more favorable to the injustice movie. Flash has always been my favorite character so when they just stupidly killed him off in a stupid way, I felt enraged. I couldn't look at the movie in any favorable light after that scene so I missed a lot of the nuances. When is the Mercy video coming out?

I think the film was design to get to the same path but condensed and altered. Unless they planned to issue an entire series I doubt it they would have the time to hash out every step as to how superman went deep into dictator mode.

Honestly, this should've been a TV Series. The Injustice storyline is HUGE, and they could've easily gotten multiple seasons out of it.

Flash's death was absolute bull. Even if he did inhale the fear toxin and his worst fear was paralyzation, he still would have been able to react quick enough to both the gas and also the saw blades

Pretty much Injustice: The Movie is the story of a Superman who nearly crosses the line and forms the Regime, but Batman and the rest remind him of his humanity in order to bring him back from the brink. The Animated Injustice's theme of forgiveness and redemption permeates through the justice league, and most prominently Diana who unlike her Comic/Game Counterpart, isn't an effective sociopath. Honestly I say that the main problem with this movie is that it probably could've had a subtitle to designate that it was divergent in this manner from the main Injustice though, likely would've helped perception/response a bit

I recently read "Supreme Power," which I loved. It's another great take on the idea of the Justice League being shaped by much darker forces. It's a Squadron Supreme (Marvel's JL) story, and it's terrific. Gray and muddy morality all around. Hyperion doesn't go right from good to evil. It's more like good to it's complicated. Great script by JM Straczynski and gorgeous art by Frank, Sibal, and Sotomayor. Better than The Boys.

I do like that at the end, there is still a salvageable Justice League left between Batman, Wonder Woman, Mr. Terrific and Plastic Man. If Bruce can forgive Diana, which I think he will when he speaks about second chances. Plus a lot of characters walking out of the story keeps them alive for them to potentially return. The Green Lanterns coming back is inevitable and some of the magic heroes will realise its all over and return.
