Thanks for this video. I had front row seats for the Sidney (Vancouver Island) show back in 2019 which ended up being cancelled and would have loved to have had a chat with you after the show. I ended up seeing SA in Victoria last year and it was an awesome show. They had Alex A-Train Boynton on bass! The whole band is a class act and came out after the show to meet fans and take pictures. They are coming back to the island again May 24th and I've got front row seats again! I would love to see Darryl back in the lineup and would travel for that show if he did a special appearance. I'm a huge fan and since info is relatively scarce on SA since they didn't tour much in the 80's this info is much appreciated.

Hey Tony, Great to hear from you. I remember talking to the 'house tech' in Sidney back in 2019, as we were coordinating sound/visuals. It would have been one of the first S.A. dates, and we were really excited about it, and I do realize that they're at the Mary Winspear in a couple of weeks. I would have loved to have had Darryl come out and do even a couple of songs with us......I first saw him perform in a club in about '78, and he was one of the most dynamic and compelling front man I'd ever seen. Sadly, he's got some things going on which always prevent him from doing that these days. It's a real loss. That said, I think Sean is doing a great job as a frontman, but no one can truly fill Darryl's shoes.

That was so awesome. Loved every minute. I don’t remember this band, but I was limited to the scope of magazines and 120 minutes on MTV. 😂 Excellent flow, love the edits of the pics and videos. Those roto toms!!! Haha so freakin cool. Great work with the updated designs.

Thanks Jon. I really wondered if I should even do that video....so few people outside of Canada know about them, but glad you got something from it.....

I love these stories. Honestly, I don't know the band... but I enjoyed every minute of this video. It's great hearing about your adventures and all of the other folks, beside yourself, who went onto great things... Hans Zimmer! ... & your VH, BTO, Arcane Garden story telling... Treasures, all. Cheers.

I was big fan of Strange Advance from the start, having heard "Worlds Away" several times (at most) on an AOR station that tended to be more adventurous in the music played than most. Thanks for making this because there has been so little info on SA in the US. I hope I finally get a chance to see them in concert one day.

Glad to hear that you enjoyed the video......I'll send a message to the band, so that realize that there ARE people in the US who remember them.........all the best......

What a cool coincidence...I also started as a drummer but strangely fell in love with the synths.

I started drummin' back in 1970-71, and because my Mom started piano at the age of 4, cut 2 78's when she was 16 -I too fell in luv with synths; that was HEAVILY influenced by my mother who played piano & guitar -& who ALSO would bring Classic Prog home. I got into Pink Floyd, Genesis, Yes, Styx & of COURSE - RUSH! I started playin' drums w those Catz Waay back in JH & HS. I GOT MY 1st analog synth (Sequential Circuits Six-Trak) BARELY used in 1985. I STILL have it!👽

That's me too. Drummed for a few decades, but synths - which are basically the opposite in many ways....(long sustained tones, instead of the busyness of beats) really captivated my interest in the early 80's

Who doesn't have a fascination with synths? As a kid for me a synthesizer was like a secret weapon that could do anything. Not knowing of course how much you have to learn to make it at least sound good. Its an art form I think your mind has to be so open and full of ideas!
@willswitchcraft
@willswitchcraft 5 месяцев назад
Interesting perspective......I too fell in love with the seemingly infinite world of synthesis early in my life. I think I also loved them because they were basically the opposite of drumming (sounds that sustained and had loads of character and changed over time....everything that drums DON'T do)
@tassobear
@tassobear 5 месяцев назад
@@willswitchcraft its so obvious, your "infinite love for music or synths". You just have that burning fire that will just keep burning. Well, that's what I think from getting to know you now a little. Isn't that soooo cool meeting great artists on line and totally connecting? I'm so grateful for it! THats the reason I needed to learn US-English. lol

Thanks Ian......just watched that vid of yours on Ambient chord voicings, etc. So great to hear someone who understands scales, modes, etc. (which I suspect a lot of electronic music enthusiasts D'ONT) explain some of the basics.....well done........hope life and SPRING are going well for you over there across the pond - assuming that you're in the UK.........

@@willswitchcraft Thanks Will. According to a recent poll in my Community section (www.youtube.com/@IanWaugh/community) 91% have a good grasp of music theory bits. We use what we have according to our needs 😊 I thought my accent was a dead give-away not only for the UK but for the NE bit of it (probably only toUKers, though) 😊

yes, it sucked......especially having turned down a summer of DJ gigs, which meant that I came home with no work. Such a disappointment, and financially, it really sucked.
