Contrary to popular (neocon) belief, a communist state is the oxymoron, not anarcho-communism, as can be inferred in 5 seconds from the definition of "communism". Just because some arse decided to establish a dictatorship and call it communism, doesn't mean you are right when you cannot correctly define communism. Marx may be the "father of communism", but his method of achieving communism is not necessarily communist. Well, you can interpretate "dictatorship of the proletariat" in two different ways: a totalitarian dictator, with absolute power, or a dictator like from the Roman times, who did not have absolute power but functioned to make a decision if a disagreement existed between the two consuls. Of course, communism doesn't have consuls, but it's still the same idea, someone who makes a decision when an agreement can't be made. But the first interpretation was liked the most among those who grew power hungry when they realised what power they could achieve by manipulating the people. Sadly.

Things would have been far different had Trotsky come to power after Lenin. There would have been a more united World Socialist movement and the USSR would have been ten times greater and still be here today. Stalin's "Socialism in one country" theory was a mistake.
Barry Smith No doubt those early Bolsheviks made errors. The worst mistake was to allow the Stalinists to take power. Instead of working towards the Marxist goal to create a fair and equal society for all... the Stalinists squandered resources into supporting a "cult of personality" regime bent on maintaining personal power and be deified like a "god". And unfortunately... that is what is confused and passed off as "Socialism/Communism/Marxism" today. Maybe someday... someone will get Marxism "right".
***** The Stalinists theory of "Socialism in one country" put a damper on the International Socialist movement because the USSR then put less emphasis on World Revolution and more on "cult of personality" worship of Stalin himself. Unfortunately the Eastern European Socialist countries copied this flawed model... and like the USSR.... eventually reverted back to capitalism today.
