1: The ink seems to have color-sensing abilities, possibly having nanites or chromatophore-sensing microbes. Perhaps even a mix of both. And when shot upon a different colored layer of ink, turns that into its own ink color. 2: The ink can be compressed and condensed in the ink tanks, similarly to how a propane tank turns propane into a liquid when it is pressurized. 3: The ink has the ability to bend spacial dimensions within itself, enabling it to store things in an inky pseudo pocket dimension. This might explain how the squids and octopods can flatten into their ink, and the Octoweapons and Octobosses can hide in a painted surface as well. 4: The ink can absorb and release kinetic energy. The ink in the tank is agitated or injected with just enough kinetic energy to weaponize it. Once a target is saturated with enough of this ink, the kinetic energy stored would simultaneously implode and explode. This ink-based detonation would apply enough force to 'splat' the target. I suspect that if this ink was fired at a human, the ink detonation wouldn't be too different from something similar to pressure waves or shock waves produced from an bomb, like a grenade or something but more wet. The blast pressure from the detonating ink would probably exhibit similar symptoms to some types of blast injuries. 5: The ink is semi-aware. I think someone stated that the ink is composed of nanites? Well, when a creature, or a cephalopodian lifeform that isn't the same color as the ink, treads onto the surface, the ink would begin covering the trespasser and slowly build up patches of ink that slowly accumulates kinetic force. I hypothesize that if the face isn't sufficiently protected, the tiny ink rivulets might find their way into the victim's mouth or nose and begin filling their lungs with ink, effectively drowning them on land. Though if they are a cephalopodian that is the same color as the ink, then the ink would heal and help them instead.

I remember VCing with so many of my friends watching the direct, and the Splatoon 3 announcement made us all lose our shit This game has made such an impact on me and watching these reactions and thinking back to our reactions just makes me so damn happy. I'm so excited for this game, and this video helped give me even more excitement man

Words fail to describe how happy I was that day. I wasn’t allowed to get Nintendo Online until Christmas 2020. I missed everything. All the Splatfests, updates, online play. Everything. The only thing that rivalled my happiness on the day I played my first online match in over two years was this reveal, because now, I can do EVERYTHING, NOTHING WILL BE MISSED. I CAN BE PART OF THE GAME AGAIN, AND I’M SO FUCKING HAPPY
