Today, it was a tough loss at Pitt. But seeing this video shows how far the program has come in a short time.

My personal, take from this is that Billy Corben is very accurate and honest. It's so many, glaring problems at the "U" that simply firing people will not solve them. I personally, feel that if the University of Miami administration publicly endorse the football program and other athletic programs it will have a sufficient rise in public relations. Furthermore, support the revenue generated with additional revenue will further increase public relations and have better results athletically.

The one point that Billy and I don't see eye to eye on is the "University has Money" statement. Yes, the University has raised a lot of money, but an overwhelming part of that money is specifically earmarked for ACADEMIC purposes. It would not only be unethical to move it, it would be illegal in some cases. Miami has to get a dynamic AD, who will be an aggressive fundraiser, who understands that Miami does have a lousy fanbase, and we have to do things outside of the typical collegiate model. The move to Adidas was a legit first step, but we should be looking to exploit every single corporate relationship available. Miami can't depend on a huge alumni base, and loyal fans to make up for shortfalls. The Administration doesn't hate athletics, they just don't care, and that's a good thing. It's the AD's job to run the athletic department, and do it in a way that fits the overall mission of the University.

Your perspective is from the university stand point. Of course, a large percentage of the revenue will goes towards academics. However, that's not the concern. The concern stems from how much of that revenue will be used to for academics vs athletics. It's very clear that the Miami administration is doing is the bare minimum in funding for the athletic programs. I will put it in a very simple way. The top football programs, are able to fund and provide their students with new instruments, academic centers, and other essential elements in education due to the additional revenue generated from football. If Miami, was smart should invest more in their football program and used the additional revenue generated to further advance the academic standard at the university.

Do you understand how University funding works? The athletic department is responsible for their own funding, via TV contracts, corporate deals, donations, and the like. The school will not and shouldn't EVER subsidize the athletic department. If the athletic department is coming up short, it's on the AD and his staff to maximize revenue, and deploy those resources correctly. The University has a responsibility to EDUCATE, not make the fanbase happy. To think that the University will take money away from the academic side, just for a football coach is not only ignorant, it's down right wrong. Contrary to popular belief, a winning football team does nothing to help the academic profile of the University. You will get an increase in applications, but you won't get the elite kids, if your school is garbage. Alabama can win national titles until the end of time, it won't fix that school's horrible reputation, and it won't correct decades of neglect. There's a reason why we're one of the few schools in the US News and World Report top 50 that has a program that has done anything in recent memory. We're one of the few private institutions in that group with a program worth a crap.

Our fundamental difference, is clear I believe a university should in fact invest financially in a sports program. Texas brought in a staggering 131 million, Notre Dame second on the list brought in 96 million. It doesn't take a rocket science too figure out the a university which is an institution of higher learner will put that money into the academics. So your debate over a winning football team does nothing to help academic profile is absolutely absurd. Do you really think that the additionally capital won't help boost academics? As I stated earlier, with the additionally capital the universities can further expand facilities and increase enrollment. See the upside if a university invest in sports program? The worst that can stem from it is breaking even. It's very clear that by far the reward out weighs the risk. College athletics is now a billion dollar industry; schools are generating enormous profits. I can go on all day because, the numbers are in my favor but, I will leave on this note we are in a era where a single school can generate upwards of 100 million of dollars think of the scholarships, and other opportunities that are created with this additionally revenue. So, by you saying it's wrong for a school to invest in an athletics it's sad because, you are in an the old era of thinking. As a new era dawns on us, so should your thinking. Think of the opportunities that are created by athletics now making millons upon millions and using it too create academic scholarships its a really beautiful thing that many overlook.
